Hi. I had my surgery at the Washington Spire in April and I’ve never once regretted it. As above, I didn’t experience any pain. The nausea is difficult for the first few days, but it soon passed. I’m not a massive meat eater and typically get my protein through things like lentils and other pulses, cottage cheese, yoghurts etc. In all honesty I now have no interest in food, previously it was my crutch if I was feeling down, or a reward for when something was good. Now eating is just something I need to do. I eat out but I’m careful and will order a starter or a kids portion. I eat most foods in moderation and don’t seem to have an adverse reaction to anything. I get full really quickly and tend to push the food around my plate whilst I’m waiting for others to finish. I didn’t tell anyone other than my husband and parents that I’ve had the surgery so when friends ask I’ll say ‘oh I’m on a diet’ or ‘I’m doing keto’ and because they’ve known me dieting for so long they just accept it. I’ve avoided all alcohol to date - again I just say I’m on antibiotics or something along those lines to stop any questions. I struggle with my fluid intake but gradually it’s getting better. The sips get bigger but I don’t think I’d dare guzzle. My body tells me when something isn’t right - when I’m getting full I get ‘burpy’ and my stomach starts making noises. I took the package at the spire when I had a session with the dietician before and after the surgery so if your worried about what you can eat I’d say it’s worthwhile. good luck

Hi, hope everyone is well. I was wondering if anyone had their surgery via a Spire hospital and had an unexpected bill? I’ve just had two invoices through for blood tests totalling £1,200 that I thought was covered in the overall £11,500 cost! nobody mentioned these additional costs and I’m wondering if there’s anymore.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that. The same thing happened to me too, but if anything by the time my surgery came around I was more determined and in a ‘let’s get this over with’ frame of mind.

Hi all. I hope everyone is doing well. I have a question re vitamins. The stuff I’m on is disgusting and I couldn’t stomach them long term. I have a 4 week supply and after that it says I can move on to tablets, but I wondered what are people using? I don’t really fancy trying to get a doctors appointment and having to go down the prescription route, so in terms of multi vitamins, vitamin d, calcium and iron, what are you guys doing please?

My plan is the same, purée from day 2 but my dietician gave suggestions such as mashed potatoes with low fat cheese mixed in, hummus, flaked fish mixed with potato. I couldn’t stomach the thought of puréed meat so but I can manage a bit tuna with some potato and mayonnaise. I’ve also made a lentil soup. I started out with really thin consistencies, just adding milk to thin out the mashed potato etc, but at nearly two weeks post op I’m gradually building up the thickness. There seems to be no so much variation in what people are told to eat post op. My dietician is really against protein drinks and said to use them as a last resort whilst other diets seem to be based around them.

Hi all. Just wondered what apps are people using to track what they are eating/drinking please?

Thanks everyone. I try desperately not to google things as it can be scary so it’s comforting to know people have gone through this.

Congratulations. feeling better each day apart from the trapped gas when I’m ‘eating’ I’m taking full advantage of my husband being off work for the week and not lifting a finger.

Hi Donna. Congratulations on your surgery. Sounds like we’re experiencing really similar things with the struggle for fluids and protein. I’m hoping it will get easier and just doing what I can for now. it’s really weird as I had such a sweet tooth before the surgery but now I’m after savoury. how are you doing with your vitamins. Mine are vile - not sure I’ll be able to stomach them long term.

I’m in the UK and noticed the rules really vary. Due to covid restrictions I wasn’t really encouraged to get up and walk around - they were really keen for patients to stay in their own rooms. I didn’t have any pain from the surgical sites, but the trapped gas was something else! I couldn’t lie down and ended up sleeping in a chair upright. I’ve bought one of those triangular cushions since I’ve been home and it’s been a godsend on a nighttime. I was only on clear fluids for 2 days and was encouraged to drink from the moment I woke up from surgery. I had IV fluids and if anything I was over hydrated - I couldn’t stop peeing! I’ve not had any issues with pain from the sites at all and I’ve not taken painkillers at all. I’m just really tired still and can’t really face going for long walks yet!

Hi everyone. I’m so glad I’ve found this forum. I’ve just had my sleeve on 4th April so nearly a week ago. Currently struggling with my liquid intake, I get terrible wind pains when drinking. Any hints or tips and is this normal?
