IWant ToDelete MyProfile got a reaction from GreenTealael in Food weight: before or after?
I have a question that I tried to find an answer to and just couldnβt get a clear one. I did email my nutritionist but itβs after hours and wonβt here back until tomorrow. So in the meantime I thought Iβd inquire hereβ¦.
I was doing a little meal prep for the next few days and wanted to portion things out to 2ish ounces. I weighed and air fried some tofuβ¦. Tofu is packed in a lot of liquid and even after pressing it thereβs still a lot. Obviously the post air fry weight was considerably less, like almost halfβ¦. Now, the nutritional value is still the same, Protein, carbs, fat etc. So if I weigh it after cooking and log it, itβll give me the nutritional values for the cooked weight BUT shouldnβt I count the nutritional value of it uncooked?
Thoughts?
To add: Iβm most just wondering about nutritional value here. I want to maximize my protein intake here and I donβt want to cheat myself.

IWant ToDelete MyProfile got a reaction from Arabesque in PMS causing issues?
I spoke with my doctor that day and he said it just happens and he wanted me to switch to vegan Protein. Problem solved!! I became intolerant to whey/milk based Proteins. I love my fairlife but we must part ways for some time. I found some AMAZING vegan protein though. So Iβm not terribly bummed. Thanks for the input!

IWant ToDelete MyProfile got a reaction from cheryl o in Doubling up on Protein
Hi all! Iβm 8 days post op RNY and I have a question that I havenβt found the answer to while googling. Iβll call my nutritionist tomorrow and ask but just wondering if itβs possible to add Protein Powder to my pre-mixed shakes? Or is that too much Protein at once? Iβm having a hard time drinking as many Protein Shakes as I need but I just canβt fit them in. Between drinking all the Water and waiting 30min before and after the day gets way from me. I have a shake in the morning like 8am and Iβm still full by 2-3pm.

If anything seems strange, unusual or not as you would expect or were advised, give your medical team a call. Always better to be safe.
Developing a lactose sensitivity isnβt uncommon & for most itβs just temporary. So itβs a good idea to try some lactose free products to rule it out. Some whey products still contain lactose so you do need to ensure the whey products are lactose free as well. My lactose sensitivity used to cause stomach cramping then a diarrhoea attack which would occur usually an hour or two later. I didnβt have heart palpitations, cold sweats or exhaustion like dumping does so I would doubt it was that. Plus you didnβt eat anything that was high sugar or high fat.
While the hormonal flush you get as oestrogen is released into your blood stream from the fat youβre losing (oestrogen is stored in fat), can cause crazy pms symptoms & periods I donβt think that was the cause but then you never know. We all react differently.

Always call your doctor. People here know a lot of things, but the doctors do these operations on thousands of people. They and their staff are (usually) the best resource if your body is doing something and you aren't sure why. Good luck! Feel better!

Ok, thank you! I guess that makes sense. Itβs the same with Vitamins. I sure wish it was feasible though. Would make reaching my Protein goal so much easier! -

Hi Stacy. I really wanted the sleeve! but so many people are having the revison to the bypass after the sleeve. It's because they are having issues with acid reflux. When I had my EDG I had bile in my stomach (acid reflux) I never thought I had it but I did! SO to keep all the problems at a minimum, she advised me that I could still do whichever one but recommended the gastric bypass.

Thatβs fair. I just wanted some input to set my worries at ease because my clinic wasnβt open yesterday (Sunday) or today due to Independence Day. Iβll ask tomorrow. -
IWant ToDelete MyProfile got a reaction from GreenTealael in Pre-op diet query
Hi all! I have a question that I just need input on until Iβm able to reach out to my nutritionist or surgeon.
I think I messed up!!!! Iβm on day 5 of my 7day pre-op diet.
The first 5 days consists of tons of Water and SF electrolytes, 3 Protein Shakes , 1-2 boiled eggs, cottage cheese or low-fat string cheese, a lean Protein meal with non-starchy veg and non- starchy veggies, SF Jello, SF popsicles and broth as Snacks or to quell hunger pangs. Think Keto and in fact I have reached ketosis (i have that telltale fruity, albeit, rotten apple flavor in my mouth for 2 days and I have test strips that confirm because I once tried to follow the keto diet). The last two days are protein and then Clear Liquids.
So hereβs the thing my mind was set on βketo, keto, ketoβ and I completely flubbed and ate some raspberries this morning!!!! Raspberries are keto approved butβ¦.. I donβt know if they are pre-op gastric bypass approved!! Iβm tail spinning. I think I totally messed up!
Input please!
Thank you!!

the food restrictions and only being able to handle a couple of tablespoons of food at a sitting is temporary - a few months at best. Once you're about six months out, all food restrictions are lifted - it'll be more a matter of moderation, plus what your sleeve or pouch will tolerate.
at seven years out (and actually, for quite a long time), no one would be able to tell I had bariatric surgery by the way I eat. I'd probably be considered a "light eater" - and I really don't eat any differently than many of my never-been-obese women friends. When I go out - I'll order an appetizer. Or order an entree and take half of it home.
so yes - after the initial few months, you should be able to indulge in your passion again. You'll just have to do it in moderation and watch your portion sizes.

I still enjoy cooking BIG special meals for the family at holidays, which is about the only time everyone shows up. If it's something I like I can eat my small quantities of it and be satisfied. If not, I'll do something else on my own. We also do the gourmet outings occasionally and I'll eat a couple bites of the courses that appeal and talk during those that don't.
One of my daughters loves cooking and like you went to culinary school. I spent a lot of time with her honing her skills and I pickup up a lot of techniques that I still employ when I cook. During this period she and I did a lot of cooking for the family together. Good times.
Now the kids are gone and my spouse can't really do much physically so I do all the cooking and house duties. She did it for our first 25 years so I'm taking care of it from about 15 years ago on out. I so enjoy cooking for her that it's not a chore and get to employ the skills I learned with our youngest.
I find I enjoy good food every bit as much as I did when binging was the order of the day. If I feel compelled to binge on something wonderful, I do it over the course of several meals, and still follow my rules.
TL;DR: Yes, you can still enjoy cooking and enjoy eating.
Good luck,
Tek

My surgery is tentatively early June! Iβm so excited!! My pre-op and post-op instructions are very similar to yours. We just talked over it but my next appointment he will be giving me all the paperwork and submitting to my insurance for final approval.
