  1. My surgery is tomorrow morning and my mother and sister literally waited until today to tell me they think I am making the wrong choice and they wish I wouldn’t go through with it. [emoji2959][emoji2959]
I also had a lot of family say I was making the wrong decision. After talking with them, I found out their comments were coming from either ignorance (thinking I was giving up) , fear of the surgery not being safe or that it would change me and somehow make me vain/no fun when going out/etc. Shot all that down and told them I would like their support but I'm doing this for me with or without them. Most came around but not all.

  2. Hey friends. My surgery was February 14, 2022 at 2 pm. My surgery was textbook. No issues for my surgeon. I was in my room by 6 pm that evening. Now what happened after that is a much longer story. If anyone wants to hear it I will be happy to share. I wish everyone else a happy and healthy time as we do this thing!!
I would also like to hear what happened. We're here to support and let you vent (if that us helpful)!

  3. 2 week post sleeve check-in. Down 30 lbs (including Pre-op diet). I've been very fortunate to have no naseau or real pain. Biggest issue was insomnia the first week after surgery. That seems to have fixed itself with increased activity over the last week.

So excited today to add pureed foods. Had eggs with hummus for breakfast. Did my first food prep session. Made a huge mess but was able to make enough meals for myself and my husband to last a week. I think practice makes perfect on this. Incisions mostly healed. When they start to itch, I take a half of a benedryl.

Walking about 15 to 20 minutes 2 to 3 times a day on the treadmill. Looking forward to the spring so I can walk outside. Still building up stamina on my lower calorie intake to get back topre-surgery goal of 10k steps a day. Also set my watch to remind me if I haven't moved in an hour. Just walking around my house and up and down the stairs to get in those steps. Starting to see increased exercise is leading to more overall energy.

How are all my 2 week post surgery buddies doing?

  4. Started my pre-op liquid diet today and it has been hard. I got lots of sample packs of different Protein Shakes and waters to try. My pre-op diet is 2 shakes and 1 can of broth based Soup and 1-2 Sf Jello, yogurt or cottage cheese. I have a Water jug for bariatric peeps that holds 64 ounces. It has times on the side so you can keep up with getting it all in. It has little encouraging phrases along the way. Im having trouble finishing it all now. Im scared of how difficult it’s going to be post surgery. I guess practice makes perfect. I had my last pre surgery appt with nutritionist this morning. I am trying to keep myself busy to stop thinking about food.
Only 4 days post op but feel confident to say that the prep week was harder than the surgery! I was hungry all the time with zero energy. Try to stict as close to the prep diet as possible as it really does make your surgery shorter, with fewer complications and less residual pain. Mostly because the more you shrink your liver, the better off all those things are. Heard that from Bari and Hysterectomy surgeon. If you slip (which I did 2 times) in that week. I had 1 or 2 bites and followed it up with lots and lots of water.

  5. Hi [mention=413011]freckledmegan[/mention]! I started chewable multi on day 1. I got the Bariatric Advantage brand and they are tolerable enough. I start the calcium chews 1 month after. The same brand and the variety flavored pack. Those are actually tasty.
This was the surgeon’s suggestion following the VSG.
Thanks for the advise!! I can't believe I didn't ask my surgeon or dietician during my 5 pre op meeting lol

  6. What’s an abdominal binder?
An abdominal binder is a long wrap with velcro that a surgeon can wrap around your abdomin to keep everything in place. I requested one be put on me before I left the OR. It helps when you are getting up out of chair and moving around because it limits the pull on the incisions. You don't realize how much you use your abdonimal wall for almost every movement. I didn't have one when I had my hysterectomy and now I really wish I had.

  7. 2/3 sleeve here. Experiencing a lot of the same. Discomfort more than pain. Trying to walk for 10 minutes at least 6 times a day. Just around the house since it's snowy and icy out. Using the tread on a super low walk speed. Can't sleep in the bed yet. Abdominal binder is a god-send. Fortunately no nausea. Constantly sipping Water and shakes. Have had 2 popsicks and 2 half cups of Jello. Miralx started yesterday, too.

  8. How are people feeling today? How does post-op day 1-2 feel? I’m getting mentally ready for surgery on Wednesday. The two week liquid diet has me exhausted.
I'm feeling okay. Still bloated and the line of little incisions wilm remind if twist or do anything that I shouldn't. I basically slept all day long. Being 1.5 days post op, I'm home and really focusing on getting in liquids and Proteins and walking at least 10 times.

  9. How is everyone who had surgery today? I feel great except for the gas pains in my back!
Same her. Surgery went great yesterday 40 minutes with no hernia needing repaired. Stayed last night. Home now. Some discomfort but not really pain. Watching Olympics now. Sending love and positive vibes to all my Feb surgery buddies. We've got this!!

  10. My RNY surgery is tomorrow morning (I have to be at hospital at 0530 for 0730 surgery date!). My Bariatric Surgeon was supposed to do the whole shabang - remove lap band and revise to RNY - in October, 2021 but he only took out the band. He said it was "safer" this way but I was super disappointed. Now I'm just hoping it all goes according to plan tomorrow. Please send prayers for those who pray. This is a game changer for me.

Same day and time for me getting my sleeve. What all are you taking to the hospital?

  11. Fellow 2/3 here
I've been on low carb but not all liquids for 2 weeks, wasn't too bad, wasn't awesome though! Tomorrow I switch to liquid only for the days before surgery, so that'll be fun [emoji51]
I had to go get covid tested today and that came back negative, I'm so relieved because I was super worried I'd be positive randomly. Did a bunch of other pre-op stuff today too, paperwork and consent forms all that jazz. It's finally feeling real, I'm so scare-cited!
Yes! So many clearances and tests in the last week. They took so much blood on my firdt day of the liquid diet that I felt light headed. Will be hard to focus at work today. Ready to do this!

  12. I am scheduled for 2/3, too. I have only had two days that I felt over the liquid diet. Today was one of those days. Those shakes were hard to get down, and my energy was super low. But after 11 days of this and only a few more to go before surgery, there was no way I was going to cheat. Are you on a clear liquid diet Wednesday?
I am Clear Liquids only on Wednesday. Hospital gave my this high carb pre-op Ensure to drink to the morning of my surgery. Sounds like carb loading to help kickstart healing process right after surgery.

  13. How are all my 2/3 surgery date buddies doing on their pre-op diets? It's been tough but doable so far. Today was the hardest. Watching football and not having pizza and all the junk food that I used to eat while watching football. Tried to treat my Fairlife Nutrition Plan shakes as dessert since it's sweeter than most anything else that I eat. Also struggling with low energy even though I am comfortably meeting all my Protein and Water goals.

  14. I suggest toiletries, phone charger (long cord), comfy shoes with a sole that you can slip on for all that walking and chapstick.

I will be staying 2 nights in the hospital and 1 in a hotel before flying home. They suggest a small pillow to hold up to your stomach for comfort when coughing or in turbulence, heating pad, loose clothing to wear home.
From one Megan to another, thanks for the info and rooting for us both!

  15. So I am a little freaked out about my insurance. Surgery is scheduled for 2/3, and I am super excited now that I am on the liquid diet. (I think it seems real now.). But, I learned today that unless and agreement is reached between the hospital and Anthem in the next week or so, the hospital will not be in-network on February 1!
Wow....I don't blame you for feeling that way. Sending positive vibes your way....

  16. Yay! I start my liquid diet on Thursday.
Same here. Start pre-op diet (protein shakes + cup of fruit + cup of veg + liquids) on Thursday. So manumy appointments between now and then (meet with Surgeon, labs, meet with hospital staff, COVID test).

Anyone have a realistic hospital bag packing list for 1 night? Imagine I will be sleeping and don't want to take anything unnecessary. This is my first hospital stay.

  17. I'm lucky with the caffeine. Just a unsweet iced tea a couple times a week. Stopped those this week. Glad that's not permanent! It's nice to have something to drink besides Water since I don't like coffee of any kind.

Nutritionist recommended Unjury chicken Soup whey Protein Powder to make broth. Apparently the taste is amazing and the extra Protein makes it more filling. You can only order it on the UNJURY website.

I like Premiere Protien shakes, Optimum Whey Protien powders and ProtienO2 water. Concerned I won't be able to all the Protien I need all the time, so I also bought some unflavored Optimum Whey Protien powder to add to food. Nutritionist recommended whey Protien when using powders. You can get the Optimum and ProtienO2 from Amazon. I used Subscribe and Save to get up to 15% off.

I also bought a highly-rated bariatric cookbook by Sarah Kent ($10 on Amazon). It helped me feel more optimistic about food post-recovery. I'm going to try some of the recipes before surgery to know what I like now and not when I'm hangry.

One question for everyone...you going to use a post-surgery abdominal binder? Getting very mixed messages about those.
