  1. Thank you for sharing. I've been very depressed about my weight loss. I started at 258 November.. now 189. I've not lost any weight in 3 months. I know I'm not eating enough. I am not able to workout due to health issues. I just can't go down anymore. In so scared of being like I was again. I can't afford to keep going to the nutritionist to tell me to eat more. I really try.. so discouraged

  2. So I've only lost 10 pounds in 3 months. I'm supper slow at losing but I have bit been eating enough the Dr said. So I'll try to eat more. I am able to. I just thought at 7 months only eat 700 calories. He said 1000. Wow..

With that being Said my loss since Nov has only been 56 pounds. But happy to lose it!

Thr oddest thing is my body feels heavier, like it was before I lost weight

  3. I know this sounds odd. But at 260 I used the handicapped ladies restroom stall. Because I needed more space. Even though I'm very slow at losing weight. 55 pounds since November. But the happy part is comfortable in a regular bathroom stall. I know it doesn't sound like much but for me it is one more step

  4. So I have hit a stall. It's been about 3 weeks and scale isn't moving. I know stalls are a norm but damn they are frustrating. [emoji23]
I was just curious, how many such significant stalls did you come across during your weight loss phase? (Definitely more a question for those who are already a year or 2 post-Op).

I've been on a stall for over 2 months. And I'm in full panic mode. I feel I'm doing everything wrong

  5. Glad to find this thread. I’m definitely a slow loser and I’m trying really hard to stay encouraged. I was 255 my day of surgery. 6 weeks out I weighed in at 249. Not even 10 pounds. And I’m doing everything that I was instructed to do. Staying on the diet, watching my portions, tracking my meals, the 20 20 20, getting the right amount of Protein, drinking enough Fluid, exercising every day. I am honestly very discouraged to not see any real movement. But it is encouraging to know that I’m not alone. But I’ve definitely had moments where I wondered, what was the purpose of going through all this and getting the surgery, if almost 2 months out, I’m not even at 15 pounds weight loss? The doctors and dietitian say I’m not doing anything wrong and to be patient, but I feel it’s much easier to say that than it is to be dealing with it. Just had to vent that. Now I’m in tears smh. But I’ll keep swimming.
I am a super slow lose too! Nov 26 I was 247. 5 months later I'm 198. My dr said I'm slow. I don't workout due to medical reasons. I work 9 hours a day. I'm 63. I got so upset I quit longing. I eat just about the same things daily. Protein Drink with Protein Powder. chicken, tuna, I'm just not moving much. I'm sad over it. I guess slow and steady wins the race. I'm slow and stalling all the time. Depressing..

  6. My surgery was 10/26/22

    Weight was 247

    Cw. 199.

I'm not eating much or tracking my intake. I walk about a mile about workout 2 times a week. I'm not losing belly fat at all.

I feel I'm doing very poorly.. and all my hair is falling out. I feel like crying all the time it didn't help my mother died a month ago and all I've done was sit.. I'm so sad

  7. Gigi I am almost exactly 3 months post op and I have lost 33lbs. I'm sure you know that SO many things affect the rate at which we lose weight - starting weight, age, hormones, fitness level, exercise level - not just calorie intake. I already see my loss slowing down but I am in this for the long haul. People who hit a long stall will try to increase Protein, increase calories, try a different exercise regime - maybe upper body only for you - or even resistance bands to try to build a bit of muscle?
In any case you shouldn't be bummed - you've lost a significant amount of weight, you're already way healthier, and if you stick to your programme you're likely to lose even more.

Thank you so much for the pick me up! It's been 11 weeks. I thought 4 months almost I guess.

  8. Hello!
I started pre-op Nov 17, surgery Dec 1st. I started at 429 and am now 377. I have been stuck for almost 3 weeks at this weight. No changes in measurements or clothing. Nothing has changed. I am getting beyond frustrated. I try and meet Protein and Water goals every day, but that doesn't always happen. I have tried upping different things( carbs, fat, Protein, etc) with no change. Please tell me this is normal? I have heard of the 3 week stall, but this is ridiculous [emoji24]

My surgery was November 26, I've only lost 26 pounds. Been on a stall for 3 weeks! Not one ounce lost. I'm so upset. Actually it showed I gained a pound. I get 90% of my Water in and all my protein in. No changes in my measurements either

  9. P.S. if you're expecting to drop like 30 lbs a month, you need to adjust your expectations. Almost no one loses that much that quickly unless they're the size of someone on "My 600 lb Life". Unfortunately, I think shows like that give people unrealistic ideas and expectations about weight loss surgery. Us "normal" WLS patients, with very few exceptions, just don't lose that fast. After the first month, many of us settle into about a 10-lb a month (give or take) rate...and the further out you get, the slower the loss.
I didn't know what to expect. I keep getting from all my friends how people they know lost so much more . It was making me second guess everything I was doing. I'm losing slow but not as panicked! Thanks

  10. I’ve been stalled for almost 3 weeks now. Lost 20 lbs in the first two weeks after surgery then hit a wall. I eat about 500-700 calories a day, weighing and tracking everything. Not losing inches either and I’m pooping like a champ. [emoji23]

It’s demoralizing but I’m going to mentally amortize the initial 20 over the month and assume that I will keep losing weight eventually.
Me too! I feel like I am failing! I lost 18 pounds in the first 3 weeks.. now I'm at 6 weeks and no more loss but a pound gained! And I am NOT pooping like a champ.

  11. Good morning, I had my surgery on the 28th and I was released today for Protein Shakes. I have the premiere Protein and I was able to drink the full 11 oz. Is this bad? I thought I shouldn’t be able to do that much this early on. I had read that 4-6 oz should be the goal but I was drinking until I “felt full” since I have yet to feel this feeling.I was also told it takes most people 1-2 hours to down one of those shakes, I did mine in about 5 mins. My gastric coordinator said if I drink to much Water or shake or anything that I will have a certain feeling in my chest. I think my next shake I will just measure out 5 oz and drink that. But should I be worried that it’s too much?

I've been worried because I never have that full feeling. Even after 1/2 cup chicken salad. Or a Protein Drink.

  12. I am currently looking for Protein shakes/powders for my pre op liquid diet as well as for after. Most have a chalky feel/taste and some are super sweet. Has anyone tried the Isopure unflavored Protein Powder? If so, is it truly unflavored?

Inuse the Isopure. I mix it with Premier Protein shake or fairlife Protein core elite. Together I get 60 protein in 4 meals. But thr strawberry.. yuck to sweet for me.i do vanilla or if I have to chocolate

  13. I struggled with giving things like that up as well. I ate sugar free jolly ranchers or other sugar free hard candy during the pre op and early post op. I’m 6months post op and if I really need something to suck on occasionally I have a sugar free cough drop. Just be carful with the sugar free candy bc some has a lot of calories per piece.
I wanted the taste of food so bad after e weeks I put cheese in my mouth and spit it out real quick lol. I missed food lol

  14. Any advice would be great as they only gave me one nutrition visit and noting post because $300 out of a pocket a session is too much for my budget right now.
I ma 5 weeks post gastric sleeve and struggling with Water intake I hate Water I have drank sparkling water for the past 10 years. All the crystal lights and Mio I have tried are to sweet. Also my Protein intake is awful since the surgery any shake I have tried makes me vomit along with everything else lately. And my weight has stayed the same I have lost nothing. So discouraged right now. Starting the gym Monday

Oh also try lemon water or slushie. It's not sweet

Let's just start over! Here's a great idea! I've done this with people that hate water. Maybe try making a slushie! Blend your ice with any flavor low sugar . Even the dollar store sells Hawaiian punch flavor sugar free. Eating ice can be easier. Try freezing your Protein smoothie. Make it like a soft serve. If your Protein Powder is lousy that's hard. Get a vanilla flavored one. Freezing makes all the difference. You feel like your eating and yet it's getting your food intake it. It's like a melted frosty. I've been worried case my weight loss has been so slow compared to everyone else. But you can stall right out of the gate. Your body has to get used to everything again. My surgery was Nov 26 and finally lost 18 pounds. But I'm not getting my walks in. My fault I need a new hip. Good luck with the slushie! God bless

  16. I'm 48 and in the beginning phases (dietician visits and tests) of bariatric surgery. I am probably getting the RNY. A lot of posts that I see are from younger women (which is great!), but I'm concerned that the weight will come off slower now that I'm older. Especially since menopause is probably around the corner. Could you share your stories (successes or challenges), so I could get an idea of what things look like for women close to their 50's. Thanks!

I'm 60ish.. had my bypass Nov 26. Down just 18 pounds. But I can't walk as much with bad back and need a new hip. Just stick to the plan. It will happen might take a little more time because we are older but we have the time. And we won't have the drastic look of our face looking as old because it will come off slower. It will happen. We have time that's for sure! You will be fine.

  17. Hold on, I'm about to use SCIENCE!
Your body has a set number of calories it burns even if you are completely inert (sleeping, G-d forbid in a coma, etc.). It's called your basal metabolic rate (BMR). It fluctuates with your weight and with how fast your metabolism is. For, say, a 40-year-old, 5'4" woman who weighs 250 lbs (not unusual for a bariatric patient), BMR is around 1800.
Now add on any kind of daily living to that, which required calories, and you end up with a number called total daily energy expenditure (TDEE). If you're the same woman above and you're sedentary, your TDEE might be 2200; if you are one of those nutters like me who goes to CrossFit and goes running and works a physical job, your TDEE might be as much as 3000 calories.
Now. You've had your surgery. You are not physically capable of eating anywhere near that amount. Let's say you're at 800 calories a day.
Simply by eating those 800 calories and existing, your body will naturally be in a 1000 calorie a day deficit. Add in sedentary lifestyle, and you're in a 1400 calorie a day deficit. Generally speaking, about 3500 calories is a pound lost (this is not always true and can be overcome by Fluid retention, Fluid balance, hormonal changes, menstruation, eating really salty foods, Vitamin deficiencies, etc.).
Now let's say you're "overeating" and you're doing 1200 calories a day; you're still 600 calories short of your caloric needs just to exist, and 1000 calories short of what you need for a sedentary lifestyle.
You are going to lose weight. You are not going to 'ruin' anything.
What is happening to you is your body is rebalancing its fluids. That is why the "three-week stall" happens. Every body is subject to the rules of CICO (calories in calories out), and eventually CICO will take over from your body's rebalancing and the numbers will drop again. And do measure yourself once a week! Bust/chest, waist, abdomen, hips, thighs, calves, biceps, neck. This week I didn't lose a ton of weight BUT I lost a half inch off my waist, and I can tell because my trousers keep slipping and I had to put a new hole in my belt.
One suggestion: don't weigh every day. And if you can't help it—some people just have to, I'm one of them—keep a running tally and then pick a day, let's say Tuesday, and average your weight over the last seven days. Then use the average weight to gauge progress, not the number on the scale that day.
Where the thick smoothies and things come in is that your stomach is still healing from the trauma of surgery. But here's the thing—your body will TELL you when it doesn't like something you eat. It will clam up your stomach. Or make you nauseated. Or have unstoppable hiccups until your stomach empties. Or give you the sniffles (which is SUPER AWESOME during a respiratory pandemic, let me tell you). I ate a bite of an egg roll yesterday and got punished for it.
So... tl;dr... don't worry too much about it, especially at first. Feed your body the Protein and liquid it needs, and then move on to other foods.
Thank you so much! My surgery was 11/26. I've lost 17 pounds. I have not gotten my daily walks in like I should. I need a new hip and back surgery. But using a glider 3 days a week.fkr about 15 minutes at a time. I walk in the house and making sure I'm up every 15 minutes for some reason. I'm an older woman that's 5'3 and now 219. Nov 3rd I was 247. I lost 10 pounds before surgery. You took so much time to explain it to me thank you. I'm at another stall. And the wonderful constipated! I take the bariatric fission and have had nothing but dark green stools since surgery..
