First, I am so happy you've already lost 10#. Way to stick to that freaking miserable diet!!
Second, I started my liquid diet today. After 3 hours, it's ok so far--hah! But I know I'll be facing what you're facing very soon. I have written down at the top of each day in my planner to think on 1. Freedom (from food/cooking/cleanup/obsessing/trying to make choices/decisions related to food) 2. Relief (from feeling too full, bloated, less than clear-headed, guilty, due to too much food/food choices.) 3. Loveliness (from how the diet will help to heal/remodel/clear and clean out my system and body.)
I don't know if that helps, but that's where I'm trying to start.
Thanks for posting--it's really great to see things working and a role model for being tough throughout the diet.

LadyH got a reaction from Arabesque in Cancelling my surgery again??!!
I am going to lose my mind. I've waited all year for surgery. Not just bariatric, but 2 additional procedures that must be done to prevent further serious problems. They have cancelled and rescheduled my surgery 3 times already. Anyone in the US knows insurance starts over (usually) on Jan. 1, and now, one week away from surgery, they just called me to let me know they may cancel me again, just 16 days from year's end. I have not been able to get a job, go on vacays, see family, or Celebrate the holidays, all because I've been "on call" for this surgery. In fact, I was supposed to have a much lesser surgical procedure done elsewhere that could easily have been accomplished as far back as last summer, but this bari program doesn't commit to, and isn't accountable for, any obligations or schedule. This is ruining my entire life, and if they cancel again, I don't think I will be able to get it done. They've already charged over $40K in gross charges without one iota of actual health care to improve any medical condition whatsoever. It's all been unnecessary procedures, tests, appointments, etc. I'm wondering how other people can get health care at the drop of a hat, especially if they're in the hospital because they have not gotten a Covid vaccine, but the rest of us, who are personally paying the entire year thousands and thousands of dollars for insurance premiums and copays and coinsurance and deductibles in order to guarantee medical access, are denied. Spoiler: It's us idiots responsible enough to have insurance that are keeping the medical world afloat.
I'm just waiting for the class action lawsuits to start. If this isn't discrimination, I don't know what is. In the US, we literally have governors and mayors calling the shots as opposed to medical experts. It's all political. Since when in the free world do janky politicians decide who gets care and who does not? I am utterly disgusted.

I was supposed to have my surgery last summer, but an incompetent PA in another department saddled me with 2 misdiagnoses, and as a result also put me on a drug that would’ve killed me. It took over 3 months to undo the mess she created and have a real doctor get everything cleared up. But, of course, all those wrong tests, wrong diagnoses, etc. fed tens of thousands of more dollars into that hospital system. Pure corruption, and put the patient in danger.

Yes, it's nuts. If I hadn't been referred to a janky cardiac PC last spring instead of a real doctor, I would've had the surgery last summer before any of this Covid stuff retarted. Poor quality programming by the hospital. The PC wasn't qualified and almost killed me.

My sympathies are with you. I'm not political about the vaccine in that I don't care who does or doesn't get it, but if someone else's poor choices means I'm denied my own care, then there's a problem. Government says everyone needs a vaccine, yet continues to put the unvaccinated ahead of those who have complied. I have already spent so much time and money on arbitrary program bs, and to think that this paying patient, who has waited a year already is put on hold even longer is just maddening. If this runs into next year, not only will I have to pay all costs all over again, but you know the doctors will say I need to have those tests and procedures done all over again because they're a year old and expired now, which is just more bs. I'm starting to think the whole process is a racket. Plus, I'll be another year older, so my labs will be another year less stellar, and all of that is more excuse for them to do even more tests, delay even longer, and further take advantage of my time and money. They told me I'm supposed to start meds on Sunday, but I likely won't even know by then whether or not surgery is certain. I'm not going to take more risks putting drugs into my system if there's not even going to be any surgery. I don't even get my pre-op class until Friday. This is so messed up.

I just had the gastric sleeve done on December 10th and I lost 1.8 lbs. Is this normal? I don’t want to compare myself to others but I’m concerned. Is there anything I should be doing?
I can only consume liquids and I struggle with that. When does the weight loss start? 😏

I was told there's a 20% chance of getting GERD after surgery, worse than that if you already have it. But, I, for example, also have a hiatal hernia which can cause GERD. The plan is to fix the hernia, then that, plus weight loss, can possibly alleviate GERD. It's 6 one way, half a dozen the other.
    But I'm with you--it doesn't sound very likely there's a great outcome.

I felt just like you a month ago!!! Now, for some reason, I'm trusting my (invisible) surgeon will be apt, prepared, astute, and experienced, and will do wonders for me. I've fully realized the why's for my going forward with this despite the risks, and those why's are all very important. All the naysayers in my life and no good--maybe you have some of those people, too. I encourage you to write down your fears/worries, the ongoing never ending problems that led you to this surgical decision, and how your life can be forever altered for the better --meaning a better you, not just a thinner you! It's a major surgery, a total lifestyle change, and a banishment from food addiction. You can finally be the real you! I will be thinking about you on the 6th. That's the day I go in for my pre-surg anesthesia eval. Please keep me posted on how you're doing, and feel free to message me if you're feeling worried/scared, or just want to chat. I start my all liquid 2 week pre-op diet tomorrow. I'm actually excited!

Long story short: I'm in PA. I had a Lap Band placed in November 2010...then had it removed in December 2020 because of complications. I'm now getting RNY on December 20th and started my 2-week liquid diet on December 6th. In one of my pre-op requirements (upper GI), a very small hiatal hernia was observed, so we're going to get rid of him. I call him Squishy. R.I.P, my Squishy.
I'm excited! Ugh, though.....I have so many clothes that are going to be enormous on me...but I also have lots of things in smaller sizes that I refused to get rid of over the years, so I guess I'll be okay.
    Good luck, all!

My RNY to RNY revision surgery will be December 21, assuming COVID doesn't throw a monkey wrench into the plans.
I've been on a high protein/low carb Liver Reduction Diet for 7 months. I started with a two week full liquid diet to see if I could do it. The joke is on me: this clinic doesn't prescribe it. I will have to do two days of Clear Liquids for two days prior to surgery,1 day post-surgery, then full liquids for7 days, followed by 2-3 weeks of soft food, then gradually introducing "real" food.

That's where I'm at, albeit unwillingly. I'm wondering how long a person can live on this liquid diet, because at least I'm losing on it.
I saw your post on the shakes/liquid diet. Like you, I'm sick of sweets and the shakes are pretty unappealing. I switch it up with chicken broth. I add some fresh parsley to it, and that makes it seem a little more like "food."
Thanks for your support. I'm almost starting to wonder if this is a God thing and I'm not supposed to get surgery. I went through this same rigamarole now 2 years in a row, 2 different hospital systems. Maybe He's got me, instead.

Most people can eat nearly anything, albeit in small quantities, after healing.
As an example, I'm just short of three months out. I had a long road trip yesterday, on roads that do not go through many towns (in six hours I went through three places with ANY population at all—Nevada is a very remote place).
One town had a McDonald's. I had most of a chicken McDeadlet kid's meal with milk (drank the milk later).
Another one literally only had a pizza place. I had half a slice of pizza.
I survived. You learn to prioritize Protein and let the rest happen as it can (vegetables next, then starches).
Bariatric Multivitamins aren't actually much different that regular multivitamins; they may be in more easily digestible forms, but most patients don't need that after a few months out. Iron, B12, and Calcium are the usual things we need more than others, and those are not so hard to find (and you can get them from food if you truly need to).
