    Tomorrow! Nov 5th is my surgery @ 8:30am (be there @ 6:30am)!
I am getting gastric sleeve and staying overnight (per insurance). I just bought about $40 in Soups & sugar free drinks & had miso Soup w/out the tofu & seaweed for dinner.
So excited, it's been a year long process!

I'm feeling better with each passing day. Surgery was on the 1st, I was released the next morning. Day 3, my largest incision is still pretty sensitive. I cannot cough to clear my throat or else I'm in a good amount of pain. It feels like I'm going to rupture my incision. 😳 I can swallow Tylenol capsules and liquids with little-to-no issue. I am on a 7 day clear liquid diet post-op. At my one week check-up next week I will be able to transition to full liquids including Protein Shakes and malt-o-meal/grits (which I'm really looking forward to!!😛). Right now, it's just apple and cranberry juice, Water, tea, broth, and sugar free Jello. I've also been walking around and up and down stairs. There is minor pain when ambulating, but it's tolerable. I showered the first day home with no issues. I would say so far so good! 🙌

Hi! How are the people feeling that have had their surgeries already?? I had mine on the 1st. Feeling pretty good overall. Came home yesterday. Working on getting my fluids in and I’ve done one Protein Drink so far. Walked this morning. Will walk again in a little bit.

    Anybody having issues or problems?

I’m just about 3 days post op and I’m experiencing more pain now than I
ever have. That’s because I thanked warfarin due to my blood clot and PE problems. Any time I have surgery I must stop the warfarin and have Lovenox injections in my belly it causes large hard hematomas. They are painful. When I had my surgery Monday 11/01/21 and it was a complicated one and add the hematomas on my belly I’m in so much pain. No amount of medication will
    Make it go away.

I have read that in the immediate post-op period, regret is really common, but it gets better. Definitely talk to your surgery team and a therapist if possible. My surgery center warned us that we may feel sadness at giving up food as a coping mechanism. Maybe that is part of what is going on for you?
I am sorry you're struggling. I hope it gets better soon!!

Not trying to sound dramatic or anything but I've been on this forum since 2016 and I've been fantasizing about having this surgery for the past decade and I always knew in my mind that the day I do it will be one of the happiest days in my life especially from watching all those YT videos of people speaking about their positive life changes after the surgery and all... now I know that that there are truly positive and beneficial changes which will come from the surgery especially when it comes to health and life expectancy apart from the visual aspect of it and I know that in a few months once I start seeing the difference and losing weight I will feel differently too BUT right now, 5 days after the surgery, from the moment I came out of the operation room and opened my eyes up until this moment I cant stop feeling but regret that I did the surgery, I'm not sure why I feel this way but it's causing me somewhat of a depression and I'm feeling sad all the time that I did it, that I had to cut a part of my inner self and go through all this pain and misery to lose weight, regrets that I couldn't do it without surgery eventhough I tried dieting hard so many times and for so long. I just really regret having this operation and I feel so unhappy about having to do it now that I've done it eventhought I've been wanting to do it for so long.
Anyome else who's had it felt the same way, and what helped you move on?

Those of us who had a hiatal hernia repair with our WLS need to start a club, we'd have so many members! And Ooof - how it adds to the post-op pain. It took a good couple of weeks to not hurt when I breathed in deep.
Even though things haven't been smooth sailing for me, I regret nothing and couldn't be happier that I've had this done. As frustrating as it felt at the time, the year long wait I had to do for my health cover was actually a boon as it prepped me mentally for it. It doesn't erase the pre-surgery nerves though. It's a BIG change, but once out the other side it's not so scary. This is a tool that helps, even down to changes in taste-buds.
What I will plead with folk for is to get bariatric psychologist support if you have emotional eating issues, or binge eating disorder. I'm super fortunate that I've never had those issues and got to where I was purely through gluttony and boredom - but from others' stories on this forum, it can really affect folks post-op and it's heartbreaking.

The reason I am creating this thread is solely for support. I know by 1st hand how intimidating this process can be. With the mere thought of should ldl do it? I can tell you that I was not a walk in the ballpark. But I am so happy I took this decision. Today I am 5 days RNY AND hiatal hernia repair post-op. I feel fatigued, yet happy. Sore, yet excited. I can use many more adjectives. Please share and ask.

Hi all I’m a newbie! I’ll be 3 days post op as of tomorrow from gastric sleeve surgery. I came home from the hospital after an overnight stay yesterday afternoon. Anyway I have a couple of questions.

Has anyone have difficulty sleeping? I only sleep an hour here and there. It’s because I’m afraid of getting dehydrated if I’m not drinking enough fluids.
I have wicked dry mouth since my surgery. When I talk it feels like I have a mouth full of cotton and no one can understand me. Then I start coughing. Boy does that hurt my belly. Has anyone experienced that and what do you recommend?

    Hi All
New to the forum. I am post op and one day away from starting puree.
I am a professional chef and I wanted to just answer your question from my experience thus far. I too was going nuts after day 3 but then I think I figured out why.
The main problem with the pre-op and post-op liquid diets is they are antithetical to the way we eat from a taste perspective. We may be getting nutrients and Protein and, sure, it's weird to drink all of your food but the biggest unaddressed issue is that most societies don't eat sweet over savory.
With a regular diet we may eat a sweet thing for Breakfast but mostly it is three savory meals punctuated by little moments of sweet. A dessert, a cookie etc. With this diet all the nutrients comes from things that are way sweet and we might punctuate it with savory. This may be the very thing driving you mad.
Now, I will preface this by saying, check with your doctor first. My doctor approved the following.
Rather than all sweet shakes I was able to buy unflavored whey Protein Isolate. I bought a good quality with a high dissolve/absorption ability. I then was able to go to the store and find broth that was better than your Swanson chicken broth. I recommend, if you can find it, Zoup Chicken Broth or Bone Broth (bone broth has more protein which you will want to get as much as you can), Target's brand of Miso, Ramen or Pho starter broth. These are clear, low in calories and packed with flavor. Heat a cup of these to about 140ºF or lower. Any hotter and it does weird things to the powder. Add one scoop, stir till dissolved and give the cup another 30 sec of heat up in the microwave.
You get everything you get in the shakes, clear liquid broth and tons of allowable flavor.
My second recommendation is to look into a company called Unjury. They make a Protein Powder chicken Soup that tastes like Mrs. Grass. They also do a Southwest Chilli flavor but I am actually regretting having bought that since it is just OK.
Anyway, talk to your doctor and try it. I found that getting back to mostly savory punctuated by sweet was my saving grace.

Lifestyle Changer reacted to Namiland in Advice: Going through with the surgery
Hi all. I'm new here (obviously lol).
I met with my surgeon for the first time a couple days ago. It was INCREDIBLY discouraging. Honestly, I'm not even sure if he was trying to discourage me or if he was attempting to make me see just how much I'll need to do to take care of myself.
He asked me what kind of surgery I wanted (btw, I'm with Kaiser Perm in NorCal, they only offer two types: Bypass or Sleeve). I told him that I'd read about both types but wasn't entirely sure which would be best for me. I'm a former smoker who quit 2 years ago. He replies with, "Honestly, I wouldn't recommend surgery at all for you."
He went on for the next 45 minutes essentially telling me that my PCOS is all in my head (I was diagnosed with insulin resistant PCOS in 2009 NOT by Kaiser and they refuse to acknowledge it because they didn't diagnose it and refuse to test for it) and my continued weight yo-yoing over the years is simply a result of me being lazy about exercise (tell that to my wallet and the gyms I've joined in the past) and make poor food choices. In the end, it felt like he was attempting to talk me out of doing the surgery because my weight issues were all my own fault because I've "self-diagnosed" myself with PCOS to blame it on something other than myself. Yep, he told me I'm self-diagnosing. He also indicated that I've likely put on enough weight just to meet the requirements of the program.
Now, I'm struggling to decide if I want to continue with surgery or if I should just crack down on myself and follow a strict diet/exercise plan for the rest of my life. But to be clear, this is 100% a surgery I want to help with my PCOS (as research shows it does). My previous doctor told me that due to the insulin resistance, my body is holding on to the weight because it thinks I'm starving myself. So it craves carbs like crazy and I have to exercise 3 times as hard as the average person to lose the same amount of weight.
I'm feeling very discouraged and spiteful. I felt, after that conversation, that I want this surgery just because of how rude the surgeon was. Part of me doesn't want it because what if he's right? What if I AM just lazy and putting blame on something as a result.

Congratulations, you have done amazing. I dont know what to think about robotic surgeons. Its a bit like driverless trains and pilotless airplanes. If I were having that procedure, I dont want to know until after the event. Keep walking and everything will improve.

Robotic surgery is NOT like driver-less trains or pilot-less airplanes. The surgeon sits at a table, looks into a 3D monitor and actually manipulates the arms of the robot. Your surgeon is able to get a magnified 3-D view with high-definition while operating from a comfortably seated position. Your surgeon can operate precisely with these advantages:
Improved dexterity Wider range of motion Enhanced visualization including areas that are not visible by the naked eye Improved access to otherwise almost inaccessible areas Improved outcomes, sparing healthy tissue
