From what I have read here regarding this and what my Dr said - no I do not smoke or vape but I have a medical marijuana card for my arthritis - he said that it slows healing and just isn’t healthy. He didn’t touch on my medical card he said that is between me and my pain management Dr. My Pain management Dr said that marijuana will help promote healing as it controls my pain. I honestly haven’t even done anything since post op because my arthritis has improved so much just loosing 30 pounds so far that it’s manageable. I have had to take Tylenol 3 times for pain but it worked. So not sure that helped you.

    Hello All,
You may have heard that superpowers are all the rage these days. It seems you cannot turn a corner without running into someone bitten by a spider or someone who possesses tremendous strength when angry even if they turn green. But I have a superpower of my own.
I can resist my archenemy. "Food."
During my 54 years here on Earth, I have not won many battles against "Food." I know many people that can defeat the powers of "Food" easily. They can resist "Food's" charm. They can limit "Food's" evil ways. I have envied them.
However, this year is different for me. I have spent the last seven days locked in a battle with my nemesis and I have emerged victorious. Ring the freaking victory bell!
Perhaps many of you can relate, this battle hasn't been just any "run of the mill" battle. This was the ultimate showdown of good versus evil which occurred during Christmas Week.
Many of you probably already know the methods of my foe. Perhaps "Food" is your nemesis too. Hence, you are familiar with the trouble maker and the reign of terror that "Food" can bring.
"Food" launched a furious attack against me with:
cheese dips Crackers pretzels Gourmet sliced cheeses topped with pepperoni Cheesy pizza loaded with toppings Homemade Christmas Cookies chocolate Fudge - like all mothers make Crispy bacon Cinnamon French Toast Fresh, warm bread But I countered with my new superpower...my VSG. This power was given to me on 12/15/21, just before the epic showdown. I was able to duck, dodge and perry my foe's attacks with some carefully timed Protein and plenty of fluids.
I am not going to say it was easy, because part of me wanted to succumb to temptation. But I adapted and overcame the demon. In the end, I stood tall and victorious.
I hope that you, the people who truly understand this daily struggle, are able to emerge victorious also. The feeling is almost indescribable.
My most sincere wishes of success, health and happiness to you.
    The struggle is real.

Protect the pouch! The first three weeks were SO HARD. You can do this! I'm two years post-op and there were so many temptations and ways I could have ruined the chance I was given. Any time I think I want to eat, I go for a walk. It helps me reset my head.

My Nutritionist told me I could eat a little mashed or baked but only a few times a week and not much. But sweet potatoes are a free for all I can eat them as often as I desire - within my calories and 6 meals a day of course lol

I had my surgery December 14th. I have lost 52 pounds but my food or liquids still feel stuck. I drink slowly and take sips and with my food I'm still doing smoshy foods because of the feeling. Is anyone experiencing this?

My mom is in assisted living but mentally she is great I stopped in to bring her some adult diapers the other day and I walked in her room - I had sunglasses on - she said Hi and I said Hi! She said can I help you with something? I lifted the box of diapers and showed them to her. She said Oh! Did my daughter drop those off for me? I said what?! She said why didn’t she come see me? She just dropped them off with you? I took off my glasses and said mom it’s me! OMG she said I didn’t recognize you! Well open the blind honey I want to see you in the light! I’m only 5 weeks out but back into a size 14 jeans and lost 32 pounds. It really made my day. I’ve seen her once right out of surgery but didn’t feel well enough to stay long. I felt like I wasn’t loosing really so it meant a lot to me for her to not recognize me at first it made me realize I am progressing

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to get back on here. I've been jumping through hoops all over the place.
I just got my surgery date for January 28th.
Husband still insists I don't need the surgery but he has finally stopped saying we don't need to be together if I do have it.
Not sure what he is going to be like after I have the surgery, but if he continues to be, or becomes a real jerk like he was again...I will leave him. Life is too short to be unhappy and be with a person who treats their spouse like this.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my post and answer it too. I appreciate the support. I will be back soon. :)

@laurenantics, we need to call our marriage off.
I usually do a couple paragraphs on the importance of communication, and more about relationships being about 100 commitment and more communication.
Then a bit on the importance of variety in sexual positions and role play in public.
    You know, the obvious stuff.
But I had to pretend to work for a while, so couldn't hit the usual high points, so I'm sorry to say I rushed it a bit.
Trust me when I say the silent motto around here is "happy wife, happy life" and any man worth his salt has figured this about by year 20. 25 tops.
So, I could reprise any of the parts I missed if anyone would like to read them.
    Good wishes and good luck,
    Tek

    I'm a guy.
Everything your husband fears about surgery is true. Something COULD happen. You COULD change. You COULD find a better guy. He's seen the same WLS horror stories as you. He's had associates at work tell him all the things that he fears happened to a friend of a friend and it was horrible.
Another true thing: WLS makes good relationships better and bad relationships worse. By having surgery you are changing the status quo in all your relationships. Relationships will necessarily change as you change when eventually a new status quo is established. Again, some relationships will be better, others worse, and others may not change much at all.
So, you have a lot of talking to do.
Talk to your husband about his fears and reassure him that nothing extremely bad will happen, that you will not change in any important way. That you love him and have no intention of leaving him. You will have to have this discussion every time his fear (and insecurity) come up because you love him. Tell him of all the things you can do with him when you lose weight. Express all the reasons you are having WLS and how those will impact him in a positive way. Open and honest, again and again. Then you will have to do similar in other relationships whether you tell them about surgery or not, because they have eyes and will notice you losing weight.
We all get insecure about change sometimes when we perceive or imagine changes. We all have buttons.
This may seem unfair and perhaps it is. But it's how loving, caring, giving relationships work. If you don't care about the relationship you don't need to take the time. "I'm doing this. Get on board or..." works if you don't care about the fallout. Your choice.
    Good luck,
    Tek

According to my surgeon, I was allowed to eat fruits from the beginning but avoid the skins till month 3 or when easily tolerated. The first couple of months, I ate green apple sauce and smoothies with blended fruit.< br>

I had fruits in smoothies pretty early out but I waited a while before having whole fruits because I worried about seeds and skin. A lot of programs introduce fruits and veggies earlier though. Dr wiener who is a surgeon who wrote a couple books on eating for weight loss and weight loss surgery is one that starts fruits and veggies earlier.

Here are just a couple of the silly things that have made me smile the last couple weeks:
    1. I can buy cute underwear that are not made out of white flour sack material.
    2. I can put on my socks in the morning with out making strange sounds and grunting.
    3. When getting dressed to go somewhere the first thing out of my mouth is NOT "does this make me look fat!"
