Had my bypass 5 days ago. Struggling to drink and eat cause I am really not craving anything but pushing through! Good luck to everyone who’s having their surgeries done this month!

I have cravings but I’m not hungry either. I think they call this head hunger. I’ve been getting my Water intake but the Protein Shakes are too heavy for me right now. I’m starting protein liquid supplements which contain nearly 20g of protein per serving until I’m ready to take on a full shake because at this time, they fill me up, cause pain and make me Ill. Hey, no one ever said this process would be easy, right? ☺️🤷🏾‍♀️

    Hello, my name is Amanda.
I am scheduled for a gastric sleeve on Dec 20 2021-hopefully. Just a few more days, but exponentially increasing covid cases, pushing capacity...I'm sure we all know the drill at tbis point. Just hoping it happens, carrying through with all the prep as if it will.

Tiny, tiny sips of everything. Pause between. If something isn't agreeable yet, back off and return to the prior step, then try again in a few days.
I find Water is more palatable if I add flavoring, such as sachets of sugar-free Crush, Hawaiian Punch, Wylers, Snapple, etc. You can use an electrolyte drink like Gatorade Zero or Propel instead of water. Again, stick to tiny sips until you can comfortably take bigger sips. Do the best you can and keep trying. If you can get at least 32 oz, you can build on that. If getting less, talk to your dietitian or surgeon's office.

I am right with you guys. Had mine Dec 9th. One incision site pulls and is itchy, but other than that, I really have had a smooth recovery so far. Protein is coming from shakes. I’m hitting protein goals, but not fluid goals. Are you having cravings? I’m not physically hungry but I WANT food. Realizing how much of an addict I really am.

I had mines in the 10th. Each day gets better but I’m struggling to finish my Protein Drinks. I got a few sips in and my stomach began to feel like an alien was crawling out of it. Needless to say, I threw up the shake 😏. I’ve been trying to incorporate yogurt but I start to get those pains and I stop. I’m going to stick to broth, Water and small amounts of Protein Shake but I just ordered a Protein supplement where each shot is 18g of protein. I may be doing this until I can tolerate a shake. Good luck and I’m happy to know your tolerating stage 3 purées. That’s a big accomplishment!! ☺️

Same as yours. How you feeling Angelina? Today was the best day so far. Thicker liquids going down better. Still get full after just a few sips. Not much pain except for hiccups. sleep is non existent and stitches are itchy. I haven’t taken off the little bandaids they put in them. Every day is a little better

Had this stupid surgery 5 months ago and I’m still not losing any weight. I’ve been logging my meals and sticking to 800 calories a day like the doctor told me to. And every time I see him he repeats the same thing (It’s obvious he doesn’t believe I’m keeping my calories on target) and he schedules another appointment. Every time I weight exactly the same. I still don’t understand what the surgery is supposed to do for me if I’m required to stick to a low calorie diet long term. Yeah, yeah… “the surgery is just a tool”…. A tool for what? What benefit is the surgery providing? None as far as I can tell.

Yes, I would do it again. My husband was not in favor (although he supported what I decided). A family member who is a doctor cautioned me that some of his patients had gained back all the weight. However, three of my doctors at teaching hospitals recommended it, and showed me the research. It’s been such a blessing, as finally I am able to lose so much excess weight (I thought I would go to my grave obese). And I feel that as long as I follow the eating guidelines, it will stay off.
This is my answer, even though from what I gather, I had a much harder recovery than most people on this forum. I vomited multiple times a day for two months before it stopped. I did have regrets at first, but my surgeon said it would stop. Once the nausea subsided, it has been sunny skies.

I just had VSG surgery on 12/10. I was so nervous the weeks leading up to my surgery. I had anxiety and trouble sleeping but you know what? I did it and I’d do it again. The decision was easy but the process is difficult. You just have to get through it. Remember why you decided to do this. Remember how good you are going to feel afterwards. Today makes a week. I’m home, moving around and tolerating liquids and some applesauce. It’s hard to predict how you will feel 6 weeks post op but imo, you get stronger everyday. Your body is going to go through a lot of changes after a surgery like this. I’m still early in mines, I’m sore, not as strong as I was but also had 85% of my stomach removed. I wish you all the best and know that any choice you make you YOUR choice. Take care 💜

Walmart sells cauliflower pizza crusts in the frozen section that are quite tasty and Hershey zero sugar tastes exactly the same as real chocolate to me. For some people the sugar substitute acts like a laxative so try just a small portion at home the first time of the zero sugar candy. I also just found cauliflower Pasta at Walmart (frozen) and had that last night. It was almost like the real thing. Check out the thread favorite grocery products. You will be surprised the number of options there are out there.

    Hi!
Not sure if this will help you or not....my program doesn't cut out food groups, and encourages getting to 1200 calories as soon as you can. I have been at 1200 calories since week 5 or so...and I eat carbs. I made this one change years ago with pizza. Before surgery we would get pizza maybe twice a month, and it was always overdone. Large greasy pizzas, with fries and dips etc etc and of course I would get sick from the overindulgence every.single.time lol.
I take a whole wheat pita, add some Tomato sauce, pepperoni from the deli, and low fat cheese. Cook at 400 in the oven for about 15 min and it's amazing! Crispy but also gooey. Depending on what actual products you use....comes out to about 320 calories, 15g of fat, 36g of carbs, 19g of Protein. Before surgery, I used to eat 3...now it is just one for dinner. And of course, you can out whatever toppings you want. It's also great for kids too because they can make the kind of pizza they want....without the price tag and all the added full fat and oil and doughy crust.
I think there are many ways to get around certain kinds of food by making modifications to your favourites! The internet has non stop recipes that can help with alternatives regardless of the kind of program you are on.

I’m 13 months out and would do it again in a heartbeat. I’m down 172 lbs and less than half the woman I once was. It is a lot of hard work still, so don’t just assume you’ll get the surgery and the weight will fall off without you having to do anything. But if you’re willing to put in the effort it can be life changing.

I always avoided breakfast and after surgery it’s even worse. I sip flavored water for about 2 hours before I feel up to anything else in my tummy. It needs time to wake up. 😂

Hello, I'm new here. My VSG surgery is scheduled for January 12 and I'm starting to get cold feet. I have no one supporting this decision and they keep trying to discourage me. I guess my question is, after 4 weeks or so of recovery, do you feel like this surgery was a good decision? I also have a cruise scheduled at exactly my 6 week post op mark and idk how the recovery is at that stage. Helllllllp!

Hey everyone! So I am 1 week and 2 days post-op, time feels so slow and it feels like I had the surgery forever ago! This week I am in my full liquids stage and I've been having a hard time ingesting cream Soups, broths, and cream of wheat. I don't eat much and let most of what I pick up with the spoon fall off and I just eat/sip what's leftover on the spoon. My stomach hurts fast and I get pains in my chest and lots of gas while trying to eat. Is this normal? It has been so hard for me to take in my 50-64 fl oz because of the same reason. Please give me advice and tell me im not crazy!

I think it could easily be Fluid retention and also, if you're constipated, that will affect it too. Keep up the drinking as much as possible. That's the best thing for you at this point. If you can't tolerate plain Water (it tastes bad to me now... so sad!) try water flavoring packets like Crystal Light, true lemon or true lime, herbal or Decaf tea, decaf coffee... broth?
I'm sure you'll see better results soon!

Hi Angelina - congratulations on your surgery! Many bariatric veterans recommend not weighing for at least 3 weeks after surgery (due to the Fluid retention). I know it’s hard to refrain from weighing, but put it out of your mind for now. You’ll be satisfied in the long run!

Some people hold onto the IV Fluid from their surgery for slightly longer. You may just be one of those people. I'd say give it another four or five days before stressing about it. Your weight loss should pick back up then.
