Hi!! I'm new here!! I'm in Canada, and I'm having sleeve surgery on november 9!! Happy to have found this forum!! I'm on the waiting for a year, but decide to go to a private clinic. I'm already 48 years old, and turning 49 in november. It's a gift to me from me! :)
I'm very nervous!! This is coming very fast!!

    Hey peeps,

This is my first time here and I am excited to announce that my wife and I are both having the VSG on November 8th!

We are having it in Columbia, Mo with Dr. Nicole Spencer. We are both beyond excited for our new outlook on life!

Hello! I'm 5 feet tall and started out at 250. I'm 2 and 1/2 years out from surgery and I currently weigh about 122 pounds. No real advice about sagging skin, there's really no avoiding it. If you're younger, your skin may be more elastic and less saggy. Adding muscle will make you look more toned, but sagging skin can only really be removed via surgery. I just had a Tummy Tuck to deal with all the skin on my stomach. But I'm fine with the loose skin I have, I wouldn't take back the 130 pounds I have lost!

This is a hard pill to swallow but part of relearning how to eat is going to be rethinking what a "meal" looks like--there are lower-carb breads out there, but when your stomach can only hold 1/4 cup or so for the first while, you're going to want to prioritize things that are higher in Protein and Vitamins than bread. You may find it more productive to find things you like as well as you like sandwiches. Ditto on fries--I don't know that anyone on here will tell you that you can NEVER have them again but for your health, it's important to focus on making sure your meals over the first 6-12 months are protein-dominant and nutrient rich.

Hi guys, I’m 9 days post op and doing great. I keep down most things. I’m struggling with eggs and getting fluids in.
I’m wondering if I will ever be able to eat fries again? I’m a sandwich lover too so what about bread? Is there Bariatric friendly bread?

also, I’ve gone from 117kg to 101kg in a month but how do I actually lose weight after the bypass? I’m still struggling to walk long distances without feeling dizzy and exhausted

What I found helpful for me, to be able to change my lifestyle, was to force myself to think of food as a necessity, and not a pleasure. For people like us, food cannot provide entertainment, or emotional support, or pleasure. Not anymore. I know it sounds harsh, but it's the truth. I used to be a lover of bread, cake, sugar, bacon, fat steaks, fries, deep fried chicken, etc... I just had to find other things to love, and "divorce" my first love (food). She was a mean lover, and did bad things to me, so I had to dump her and forget her... 😁

Now I see food as a chore, a necessity, a subsistence issue. Of course my eye wanders if I pass by a fresh donut or a steaming loaf of bread... but I look away and focus on something else. It's hard, it takes time, but it's doable... like most addictions.

You are right we can do this. And we are stronger in numbers. I hope this can become our own little buddy group.

When I had my first Bariatric doctor visit and decided to do this, I told myself I was not going to say anything about it to my friends. Not close friends but groups of people we hang out with at times. Well, I've been telling a lot of people and I kick myself every time. I just can't shut up about it. Most people look at me like I have 2 heads and go on about how it's extreme and scary and oh "you better be aware that it will change your life a lot". I want to snap back and say, don't you think I know that and don't you think I've done a lot of research on this before I going in to it? Most don't have any clue about it. My fat friends look and feel guilty when I start talking about it, like I'm going to try and talk them in to it.
I guess, I'm just excited and I want to talk about it. Then I get disappointed when I get weird, uneducated, ignorant responses. That's why I love to get on this site. It brings me back to why I'm doing it and how great my life will be and that I'm not alone.

Hi! I am scheduled for my bariatric sleeve on December 10th. I will be traveling to Mexico because my insurance does not cover weight loss surgery. I’m nervous and excited too. I’m so sick of the up and downs and I’m looking forward to stability, being healthy and looking and feeling good. I provided the clinic with my information and based on the information they suggested the sleeve.
