    January 2022 Surgery Buddies

So glad to hear you are doing well! Keep kicking butt! Right now due to COVID, I still don't have a surgery date due to my surgeon having to be on call, however they did advise a possible April date, so I am still awaiting to hear.

    3 weeks until Surgery!

Congratulations! Looking forward to following your journey! You came to a wonderful place of resources and great support!!!!
  4. Update! Doctor's office called and said they hope to have my sister and I scheduled in the next two weeks. Surgeries are still pushed out to April but I am just thankful to finally be getting a surgery date!!! 🤩

  5. I am in the process of getting a surgery date for revision, sleeve to bypass - & this time around I feel a bit more scared than I did previously with my first surgery. I am worried of complications after surgery, did anyone run into any crazy complications after their revision?
  6. Still no answers from my doctor's office. I feel COMPLETELY frustrated, trying to get scheduled and it's just a bunch of nonsense. I know COVID is very unpredictable, but others are getting their surgery dates and I'm still left in the dark. Feeling so down right now. 😤😭

    Any Regrets?

    1. No, I can definitely say I feel healthier and though I have experienced some regain, my body has changed for the good. 2. Yes 100% 3. I was miserable for about 8 months after surgery because my body decided to hate everything I put in it, and for awhile there I was surely tested HOWEVER, I had a great team with my bariatric doctor whom helped me through. Of course this a person by person basis but something that drove me close to regret. 4. I was sleeved in 2015. I WISH they would have told me about the possibility of getting severe GERD and hernias. That conversation wasn't thoroughly discussed and as it may be my fault, I'm now finding myself needing revision which health insurance that won't cover leaving me to fund my revision on my own. Life is a little miserable right now because nothing seems to help but again, this is all a person by person basis. I wish I would have pushed for RNY at the beginning but I still don't regret getting WLS. Best of luck to you!

Issues after surgery! Kinda regretting it

Reading your post is heartbreaking, so sorry you are going through that! Have things started to ease? Did your surgeon contact you?
  10. A bit frustrated with my surgeon's office currently. Feeling like they are leaving everyone in the dark about when surgeries will start again. Told one thing, then told to do another. GRRR! I just want to be scheduled already! 😫🤬

    January 2022 Surgery Buddies

Unfortunately due to COVID, all bariatric surgeries have been postponed with my surgeon. Wishing all those who are getting surgery in January all the best! Kick butt!!!!!
  13. Pork. Even the smell of it turns my stomach 😩
  14. That is odd! I am having revision to bypass to alleviate my severe GERD so this doesn't make me feel entirely too good! I hope you find answers with you endo/contact with your surgeon, good luck!

Crossing the fingers that I can get a surgery date in January. I have a pre-op appointment on the 17th and hope to get my date then! Super excited for this opportunity.

    Re-sleeved

I know every surgeon is different, but I to- went in to speak with my original surgeon about a resleeve procedure and he advised that is was a bit of a tricky procedure and heavily weighed on whether there was dilation of the pouch and/or scar tissue. We decided against it and I'm currently in pre-op for revision to RNY (GERD, weight gain) Of course, do what you feel is appropriate for you, but make sure to ask a lot of questions because I didn't take a lot of things into consideration when bringing the idea forward. Good luck!!!
  17. I'm heading into month two of my initial consult on revision with my surgeon with being self pay. I'm hoping I can get a surgery date soon but really the time has been scheduling discrepancies. So like many have said, I think it really all depends on your surgeon/scheduling. Good luck!!!
  18. I took biotin months before my first procedure with VSG to prevent hair loss and found that my hair loss was extremely minimal compared to others in the community. I still continue to take biotin to this day yet I'm still worried about hair loss with revision surgery coming up, haha! I hope it has helped you!!!

    Post VSG Regrets?

Thank you so much! Unfortunately it is my employer whom just will not work with me as I appealed the denial as well as my surgeon. Their reasoning is "if we do it for one, we have to do for all" which is quite literally the most insane thing to say as EVERYONE is different. My surgeon really went above and beyond for me on trying to get this covered so my only other option is self pay which was a decision I knew I had to make because this GERD is out of control. I appreciate you sending over the info!!

    Post VSG Regrets?

I agree 100%. I under went VSG in 2015 at the recommendation of my surgeon. I was initially looking into getting RNY but he stated since I was young and without children, it would be best to undergo the sleeve procedure. However, I'm 7 years post op, experience severe GERD, regained a good portion of my weight loss (my fault completely) and am now in the self pay bucket for revision as my current insurance under my employer outright refused any type of bariatric surgery. I'm not saying all this to scare anyone, I'm just saying DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU. I wish I would have put my foot down on the decision between VSG vs RNY but all and all, I did it and it is what it is. It works for some, but not for all. Unfortunately I fell into the "not for all" and it was definitely USER error. I can't speak on it, but I feel I would have had a better success rate with RNY vs VSG which is why I'm looking into the self pay option for the revision surgery. I would say to anyone looking into bariatric surgery to RESEARCH and ask a lot of questions at appointments/support groups. In the end like I said, do what is best for you. 😁
  22. Hi I'm Sam, currently 7 seven years out of VSG and looking into revision due to weight gain.

I'll be the first to say I lived life a little too hard and am looking for a second chance at a healthier life.
