  1. Thank you for all the replies and I agree with this. I have another appointment schedule with new doctor in January. Office was so nice, doesn’t require referral, and said I see the actual doctor several times, especially the first time. I’m feeling a little better now and not like I’ve just cut my foot off
  2. I agree that surgeons are “just the cutters”. I don’t expect a warm fuzzy, friendly relationship but even after I specifically asked I still didn’t get to meet. My initial appt was with the NP and we decided on bypass, but even then she said you and the doctor make that final decision in a few months once you’ve gone through some of the testing and such. I just at least wanted a meeting to discuss that and other questions that the NP on my final visit told me I could ask the doctor that was more specific to the actual procedure. They did call the next day and say she will meet you in holding before you go back or if you really want to you’ll have to come back again for a face to face. I unenrolled from the program and am in the process of going somewhere else. May not be a big deal for some but after all this time it showed me a true lack of concern for the patient, I’m not the only one not getting to meet. And I at least have to minimally trust the doctor cutting me open and I can’t do that without some type of meeting. I would’ve accepted a zoom meeting even. Hoping to get started somewhere else but really bummed it came to this.
  3. No I’ve not even had virtual meetings. I asked for that but they don’t do that with her.
  4. I do have a date of 1/11/2022. I did research her and did talk to even a nurse who worked with her who had it. She comes recommended for skill. Just wondering if I should go elsewhere or no go anywhere at all 😭😭😭
  5. @NovaLuna- she is the only surgeon in her practice but I’m wondering if that’s not how her office is ran. You don’t see her but once prior to surgery. @Lifestyle Changer she is an MD my PCP recommends but she didn’t say for sure go there. She kinda let me pick. There are several others in my area, or at least within 1-2 hour drive. I just really don’t know what to do. Should I wait and see? I’m so afraid I’d have to start all over and I really don’t want to do that. So disheartening. And as my husband said we are paying her, the least she could do is let me meet with her.
  6. So I’m still preop, surgery 1/11/2022. I’m starting to wonder about what to do with artificial sweeteners. I’ve found that they are a huge trigger for craving actual seeets and have tried to eliminate all from my diet. I know that once I’m on the liquid phase pre and post op they are unavoidable but I’m sure someone out there has minimized using them so I thought I’d ask. I’d like to not if I could possibly avoid them. Thanks for any advice

    Baristatic App?

I was a long time MFP user, free version. Their database seems endless and most of the time much easier to enter foods. I have had to manually enter things and doing a recipe is slightly less user friendly on Baritastic. That being said I’ve now made the switch. I found that the icons with the macro goals, etc are easier to see at a glance. With MFP if I want to see total protein etc it’s several clicks to find that. I need something that’s in my face and easy to see so I can stay on track. So that’s my rationale for switching. There is my macros app too that I know people use but the database is slim and it was not as user friendly
  8. Thanks so much for all the advice. Good to know there are work arounds and successes avoiding it . It is a trigger food for me and I know I’m a food/sugar addict and need to abstain.
  9. I agree with this completely. I asked my nutritionist and her only suggestion was to use unflavored protein powder . That was not very helpful lol

Praying all goes well and you’re feeling good after surgery.

    Bariatric Therapy

To those who have done therapy. Do they really target strategies for not overeating, emotional eating, etc or is it just generalized? Never had counseling before so not sure what to expect or if it something I want to do. I do think it would be helpful, but I know it can be hard to find a good therapist.
  12. How are you doing? So excited for you
  13. How are you doing??? So glad for you!
  14. I really like unjury in vanilla and chocolate. They have great chicken broth and unflavored too. On their site you can get sample packs. I haven’t had much luck finding on Amazon
  15. I know it’s been discussed, but just wondering if anyone has advise for sagging arms or loose skin? I’m not even to surgery yet and already have worsening of the flabby arm skin. Besides plastic surgery are there any particular exercises, sleeves, etc that may help? I do CrossFit 3xa week and walking other days. So I do lift weights in combo with cardio. Just thinking ahead and maybe can figure something out to help along the way. Also, what about garments, lotions, supplements etc??? Just a thought.  Thanks!

    Anything to help sagging arms/skin?

I’ve never been a sleeveless shirt wearer even in high school! They just seem to already be so deflated. I’d like to avoid any plastics if I could just because of cost etc so I’d like to try something. I realize I’m probably grasping at straws and getting the cart before the horse here lol

    November 2021 surgeries

I know I’m not a November buddy, but wondering about this compression garment…where did you get it? I have been thinking it may be helpful
  18. I live in a very rural area too in Virginia. I too had both vaccinations just hadn’t got the booster yet. I’m hoping the time between covid and surgery is enough to be fully well first.
  19. 1/11 for RNY. Rescheduled from December because I got covid :-(

    January 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hello all! I was scheduled for 12/13 but had to be moved to 1/11/22 because I just got diagnosed with covid :-( anyway, joining the group now! Excited for January. A little extra nervous because of the covid. I hope my doc isn’t rushing it post covid
  21. So finally got a call back from doctors office. They are saying at least 4-6 weeks after covid. I had the antibody infusion today. Anyone else with experience of how long to wait after? Makes me kinda nervous

    Surgery nerves

I too am having a serious case of the nerves. I like what was said though, we would be robots if we weren’t nervous over something like this.” Makes me feel a little better.
  23. For some of us we will be starting the liquid diet this week or next. Hoping all goes well, we are getting closer!
  24. Well here I am, 27 days away from bypass and I’m in a panic! I’m starting to think “I can do this by myself”. My family believes in me and has encouraged me saying, “you’re doing so good, you can do this without surgery”. Part of me believes that because honestly I’ve never maintained healthy eating AND exercise for 6 months in my life and here I am!!!I guess I’m just scared of all the risks and what if here I am healthy, I become one of those sickly, complication patients? Is this normal? To get cold feet? I don’t know if I should postpone or just go for it…any encouragement or advice is appreciated!

    Having cold feet….

I have lost and gained plenty in the past. However I honestly have never gone 6 months on my own eating well and exercising like now. I usually have thrown in the towel around month 3-4 when weight loss slows so this is a big improvement. I think I’m just nervous and trying to rationalize not getting it….
