  6. Thank you waterwoman. That's encouraging for the longer term. Thanks everyone for your ideas. I'll be looking for pasta-free, healthy microwaveable lunches.
  7. I guess I could look for pre-made cheese sauce. Thanks
  8. Other than hitting the 60 grams of protein minimum a day and 64 oz of water, it seems that minimum calories are all over the place. I've been told at 4 months out not to exceed 600, which is hard. I think it has everything to do with age and activity. I get about 30 minutes on a stationary bike or a walk, and that's it. So without more activity, I guess my calorie intake has to be that low.
  9. Thank you, but I specifically said I do not cook, so recipes are not helpful for me. I did find an earlier post of some options for people who don't cook. I know I would be more successful it I enjoyed pouring over recipes and making stuff, but I just won't do that.

Looking for Surgery People 60 and UP

Hi, I am 64 and had gastric sleeve surgery on September 1. I'm also interested in seeing what results people over 60 are getting, although I know there are a variety of factors. I feel that I am losing slower due to my age. I've lost 38 lbs in 8 and 1/2 weeks (counting the pre-op loss of 15 lbs in 10 days). How much exercise and what kind are you getting?

    September Surgery Buddies!!

i have never learned how to reply to specific posts, but I sent CtotheTina21 a PM. Today I begin my 8th week, and i have been in my second stall (since the 3rd week) and have not lost any weight in a week. I'm hoping this period will pass like the third week did, but overall I was hoping to have lost more than 38 lbs (since starting pre-op) by this point. I get my water and protein grams in as assigned, and always maintain the time distance between drinking and eating. So I think I'm following the rules, but am eating between 600-700 calories a day, and wonder if this is too many for my age (64) and activity (I walk or do stationary bike for 30 minutes a day). How many calories are people eating 8 weeks after a gastric sleeve? How much daily exercise? thanks

    September Surgery Buddies!!

Also very discouraged. in 4th week, following plan completely, only 7 pounds lost since surgery. Started at 288. Did lose 15 before surgery. It is not working for me. I get the 60 protein grams, reluctantly drink the hated 68 oz of water, and do not exceed 600 cals, mostly I'm below 500. Very sad.

    VSG 1st month

I am also discouraged about my lack of weight loss. I'm 64, so I'm wondering if age has something to do with it. That and total irregularity (no movement at all, in spite of multiple laxatives being taken!) My surgery was September 1. Before the surgery, I had lost 15 lbs. The first 10 days after the surgery I lost 10 lbs, but not a pound since (11 days). I am increasing my activity and up to walking /or stationary biking 40 minutes a day. I hit all my protein grams and water goals, and consume between 400-600 calories. I know people say this will get better, but I'm afraid my age and digestive woes are working against me. Any older people have trouble making this work? I'm not going to give up, but I started at 288 and should be seeing more progress.

    How fast is too fast?

I'm older and somewhat tech-challenged. How do you reply to an individual post on this site instead of posting to the general topic?

I can really empathize with your thoughts. Even 2nd week after surgery now, I am still wondering if an elective surgery was the only way to conquer my life-long problem. What happened to me on the pre-op diet might encourage you a little about eating tiny amounts (though I'm sure not the best). I was doing fine on it, really strict, but 6 days in, they told me my surgery would be delayed indefinitely! (due to Covid crowding beds). I did NOT want to have to start over, so what my program nutritionist told me to do was substitute one meal with 2 oz of chicken or fish and 2 oz of vegetables. I was really afraid that this would screw up the whole thing, but I only did that for 4 more days. Then they told me my surgery would be only 2 days after originally scheduled, so I was really only on the liquid diet for 6 days, then partial for 4 days, then back on for 2 days. (In my case, was supposed to be only 10 days total) Yet in my situation they said that would be ok, and I've had no problems at all with the surgery or since. I get to wondering when reading about the negative experiences if I was really operated on, but all situations are different. The only thing I did "wrong" was after the first week, when I had so much trouble getting in the 60 grams of protein a day, I started drinking protein waters, and then found in the 2nd week I was getting too much protein! So my lesson learned is use the protein water sparingly and count all protein grams. But I hope you make it through the rest of the pre-op and have a positive surgery experience.

My only problem is 😣 constipation. I'm taking what I should and getting the water levels. I'm having no trouble getting anything down, I'm only afraid maybe I'm eating too much because I'm having no full feelings at as ll, though sticking to my plan
