I just registered my account today and this is my first post. I wanted to say hello to all and everyone that might see this. I have been an avid reader of these forums for awhile now, and just had my RYGB on 8/4/2021. There are so many posts and users here that provided me knowledge and help while I was preparing for my surgery, and since my surgery. I know it will be tough to go back and find all those posts and users and thank them, so I just wanted to say a huge "Thank You" to this entire community here in this post! You people are amazing, your stories inspire me, and your knowledge astounds me. Thanks again.

Yes! Same! I gained 10lbs from the gas/fluids, etc. What was nuts is that it literally all came off overnight between days 3 and 4 and now 7 days out I'm down 8lbs from my initial surgery weight. My body feels like some weird science experiment!
How was your shift from liquid to puree/soft foods? I was also struck even a few days out that I desperately wanted some of the foods I shouldn't have. Around days 4/5 I was having some serious mental challenges with wanting to eat chips, pizza, Cookies, etc. (of course I stuck to my good ole Protein shakes!). I thought at least this early I would be somewhat disgusted by food given the state of my insides. Oddly, what has given me some reprieve is planning how amazing of a chef I am going to be once I can cook again by researching healthy recipes and watching videos on healthy cooking techniques, etc. I like feeling prepared for things, so maybe this is helping me mentally combat knowing what I no longer want to put in my body with feeling prepared to create dishes that will enable me to reach my goals. I don't know, but it's keeping me entertained at least!
As for your sweet cravings, I've read that a lot of post-WLS folks like Torani or Skinny SF syrups and use them to spice up Protein Shakes, yogurt, etc. Perhaps if you went on a mission to find 3-5 recipes for the healthiest sweet recipes you can find it may help you face this head-on?
Best wishes to you and congrats on your weight loss so far!

    Hi everyone,
I had open RNY gastric bypass surgery way back in 2003, and I was diagnosed a few years ago with a raging case of ADHD. I always did very well academically so the ADHD was never diagnosed, at least not until I had two sons with it and their doctor said I needed to go get checked.
From a weight loss perspective I’m doing great, currently hanging in there at 143 pounds (I wear a size 6 or 8, though my weight has varied somewhat through three pregnancies and 18 years of, well, life. But medications (all kinds) have given me a lot of trouble. For the last three years I have been on immediate release generic Adderall, since extended release medication tend to be ineffective and even dangerous for me. Lately I’ve noticed it seems like the medication stays in my system only three hours or so, and my doctor thinks the surgery made my absorption extra poor since I am missing so much intestine. My doctor was having me take Adderall IR every 3 1/2 hours four times a day, and it was tricky to remember to take it and I felt like the levels were very unpredictable in my body. (By the way, I’ve tried the non-stimulant meds and they had absolutely zero effects.)
Currently I’m doing a trial of the Daytrana patch, since it doesn’t involve my stomach at all. Daytrana is a form of Ritalin, and for some reason it doesn’t seem to work well on me, though it could also be the dosage. I’ve heard rumors of people using Vyvanse after gastric bypass and having it work because it absorbs differently, and I was wondering if there’s any truth to that. I would love to hear stories of any RNY patients and the ADHD medications you found that worked postoperatively. Thanks in advance.

In addition to Tylenol, for my arthritis I take Tumeric and Ginger Root which you can find in the Vitamin section (3 Tumeric, 1 Ginger Root a day). I also use Aspercreme with Lidocaine for my knees and back. You can try those things or try talking to your PCP and get their opinion.

Just look at how many people on this forum think they should of come out of surgery skinny! You see posts all the time...I only lost xxx number of pounds since surgery, I thought it would come off faster! I didn't tell anyone until after I had surgery because I didn't want to hear their opinions and frankly, I think I had that fear of once again being a weightless "failure."
