  1. Hi Emma, I hope you are feeling better by now. I am also experiencing some of the things you described like pain after eating I sip my Protein drinks and Water slowly just enough to wet my tongue and swallow and even wait a minute between sips but it just kills my left side, its like a horrible stabbing burning sensation that stops me in my tracks, my back has hurt since the day of surgery and I am almost 3 weeks post op. Have you been to see a doctor and if so did they find anything wrong?

Hi All ! My surgery was Monday 9/20 and I was on a full liquid diet 21 days prior. I am only 3 days post op and I must admit the amount of pain I am experiencing is not like what I had in mind. It is mostly gas pain and I’m walking as much as possible and also taking chewable Gas-X but the gas pains will not subside. The first 2 days after surgery my entire body felt like I was hit by a semi truck and I mean entire body (legs, arms, chest, back, and tummy). Today I woke up feeling less sore and my stomach didn’t hurt much but the second I took in some liquids the gas pain came back and my stomach hurts every time I sip from my 1 oz cup . I started the full liquid diet today again so in addition to the Clear Liquids I’ve been drinking post op I am now allowed the regular Premier Protein . I am finding it hard to reach my liquid intake especially the Protein as I am still on the first bottle of Protein and it is already 4:36pm.

Hi Jasmine, I had my surgery the 13th and I did experience the same issue with drinking my liquids, my doctor suggested ice packs on the tummy and to take advil gel minis which I take 2 in the morning before I even get out of bed and let my tummy settle down before I get out of bed. That has seemed to help with the swelling and pain in the actual stomach and after it kicks in I can actually sip my liquids and protein with a sip sip small pain and burp. Something that also helped me was drinking Gatorade G2 clear protein drinks and making them into Popsicles as well. I hope this helps and you'll want to make sure your doctor says it's OK to take the advil but it has seriously made a huge difference for. Good luck and it does get better, a tiny bit everyday im 11 days out and I still get gas pains but way less.

The gas pains are so annoying but they do get better over time. I’m four days out and definitely still have it sometimes. One thing (sorry if TMI) is that the gas pains get less bad once you have a bowel movement. It took three DAYS for that to happen and I immediately get better and had way less gas.

The “foamies” I get when I consume too fast. I forgot to sip yesterday and chugged probably 3-4 oz. of Water and was in agony for probably an hour.

The hunger pangs are the worst, it feels like my stomach is literally twisting itself like a wet washcloth. I made Protein Jello (orange sugar free Gelatin with half a scoop of whey Protein isolate dissolved in the cold Water used for the gelatin) for when I absolutely can’t hack the “grinding”. The big packet of Jello makes 8 portion cups and I usually eat about half a portion cup, so a whopping 8 cal. It helps a lot.

I haven’t weighed myself yet today (doing it every day for the first two weeks per doctor’s suggestion—“you’re gonna wanna see the numbers”, then weekly after that) but yesterday morning I was 9.6 down from surgery weight in three days. I know that won’t last but some of these are numbers I haven’t seen in a decade, I already had to size down in my favorite Carhartt shorts, and had to throw out the larger size chonies because they were starting to hang off me.

My blood pressure the day before surgery on two BP meds was 145/85. My PCP took me off the one with the water pill as of the day after surgery and last night when I checked, my BP was 123/68 on one med!! I am STUNNED how fast that happened. Almost like my body is like “YES let’s get this done, pitter patter!”

Energy level is coming back, but am still weak. I walk 5k every day at least and once the incisions heal and I feel like I can sweat safely I’ll start running.

Day after surgery was the absolute worst and then it’s a dramatic improvement. Already the best decision I ever made for my body. It’s really amazing to think, “This is the last time I’m ever gonna see this d**n number on that scale.”

wow, sounds like you're doing fantastic!

I'm 6 days post op and down 11lbs my start weight was 251.4 and today's is 240 on the dot! my weird burps are gone and all body parts are back to working they way they should except the soreness from the incisions, I'm able to keep up with my protein and water and Vitamins. sleep is much better in my recliner (once I find a comfy spot.) I feel like everything is going well now, those first few days are sure rocky but I feel so much better than I did!

Its a crazy journey but well worth it!

Congrats!!! Everything is going well, I do have hunger pains, but I'm sticking to the script!! Protein & Water an ounce every 15 min! On the bright side already down 12lbs! How awesome is that! Fastest I've ever lost weight in my life 🤣! What about you how much have you lost?

congrats thats so awesome! On my surgery date I was 251.5 and I am 6 days out and down to 240 on the dot! I haven't experienced hunger pains yet or maybe I have? I'm not sure what they would feel like now? My gas is much better and I'm getting around much easier now. I found a comfy position to sleep so I feel like I'm into a good groove today 😊

My back went into spasm on day 3. I couldn’t sit or stand or lie down, tears running down my face. Just awful. Surgeon suggested it was from stress I was sub consciously holding in my body. I had a lot of swelling so swallowing was painful so I was very tense every time I sipped or swallowed which would have contributed too. A physio finally came to see me (hours & hours after) but a lot of the pain had reduced by then.

Honestly, I sometimes think they can throw you about a bit during surgery so that could add to it as well.

It could also be the surgical gas escaping your body too. That gives you terrible shoulder pain. Walking, heating pads, gas X, passing wind, all help but it does take days for it to fully escape your body.

so sorry about your pain, I hope it remedies itself quickly, what a journey this is!

Thank you for the tips I will try them all.put!

  7. Hi all, my first time here, my surgery is scheduled for September 13th I was told only a clear liquid diet the day before surgery and nothing after midnight but otherwise eat a normal diet, is this typical?

I am adjusting my diet starting today to include a Protein Shake and healthy meals with my daily Vitamins.

Has anyone else had the same directions from their doctor and where you told to avoid caffeine?
