    Great advice! Thanks!

One week post-op — feeling hunger

Hi, MusiGal. I’m sorry to hear that you are feeling hunger pangs, too. I do think the acid reducer helps matters. Now that I’m about three weeks out, I’m realizing that I wake up very hungry, but don’t experience hunger as dramatically throughout the day. So, if I eat sensibly in the morning (I’m on soft foods now), I can pretty much manage the rest of the day. I encourage you to ask your surgeon about an acid reducer. Good luck!

Thank you, Jaye. I am taking the acid reducer. I’m hoping that my appetite will sort itself out soon. Two-week post-op check up today. Fingers crossed.

Thanks, Jaye. I’m just disappointed because the surgeon said that a primary benefit of VSG is removal of the portion of the stomach where the hunger hormone ghrelin is active— thus no hunger even with ultra-low calorie intake. The good news is that my hunger is quickly quelled with just a little food.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

Oh no! I would be so upset if I were you! I guess just remember that the weight is coming off, just much more slowly than expected. On the bright side, perhaps you won’t experience the sagging skin that a rapid weight loss can cause?

Thanks for your input. My first follow-up appointment is tomorrow. I’ll report back what the docs say.

That’s distressing. I’m prepared emotionally/physically to limit my intake to 500 Kcal/day, but I won’t be able to achieve that if my body is crying out to be fed. The lack of hunger benefit is just as important to me as the smaller stomach.

One week post-op — feeling hunger

Great advice. Thanks, friends. The hunger I’m feeling is that kind of achey hollowness. I’m taking a scrip for the acid, but the fluids is a good idea. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I’ll report back.
  9. I had VSG 8/31/21. So far so good, except I started feeling hunger yesterday. The surgeons said that VSG surgery removes the portion of the stomach that triggers hunger, so I’m very disappointed/worried. I’m hoping this “hunger” is actually just recovery pain that my brain is misreading as hunger. Anyone else feeling hungry one week post-VSG?

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

My surgery was also on 8/31/21. Pain from the bloating is much worse than I anticipated. Getting a little better every day. Only concerns, besides distended belly, is nausea (I tried a little broth and Jello, but got nauseated after about 3 bites). My wounds are bleeding, but not steadily. I don’t know if that’s normal or not. so tired!!

I really appreciate your candor. I’ve got a weightlifting strategy in place, and I’ve already started ramping up. (My surgery is 8/31/21.) You’ve inspired me to also set an ambitious goal for walking. Like you, I’m worried about my bust. If plastic surgery is in my future, it’ll be to address whatever’s gonna happen to ‘the girls’ once I start really losing. (I’m a 36H.) And thanks for the collagen tip. I’ll definitely include more of that in my supplements. All the best for your continued success and good health.

We’ll done!!! My SW and GW numbers are almost identical to yours. I’m 5’4” and 54 years old. I’m impressed at how fit and toned your body is, and I am hopeful that I might not have any issues with extra skin. Did you do anything special—apart from exercising, weights, and so on—to ward off problems with extra skin? My biceps are a concern for me. I would really like to avoid cosmetic surgery to remove extra skin. I appreciate any guidance you might be able to offer me. And again, congratulations on your great success!
