  1. I am older, and while getting over the surgery was surprisingly easy, your body has been through a shock. You will get tired more easily, and "your nerves" as my mother used to say, may take a while as well. Look around the boards here. You will see people stressing over what some may consider as minor stuff...it isn't minor to them, but you may burst into tears over nothing. Take the time off. You will need it more than you may think. And there will always be those that will be cleaning house, baking a cake and cutting the grass the next week, putting us all to shame, lol..

  2. You know, sometimes we eat what we are supposed to, and sometimes we eat what we need to HAVE, LOL! Instant mashed potatoes, refried Beans with some cheese never hurt my stomach. Plain old Campbell's Tomato Soup is still in my rotation, and I am 5 months out. Egs, prepared any way, even hard boiled, as those can be chewed down. Sometimes I eat something I shouldn't, and it lets me know, and I retreat back to these old standbys. You'll find your faves....

  3. They call it "food avoidance" - I call it "feeling like I have to yak all day." Go up to the search function here on the boards, and type in nausea. You will find my posts (and plenty of others) about it. I am 5 months PO, and on anti-nausea meds. Ask your doc for some.

  4. I'm 5 months PO, and still deal with nausea every day. My doc said it has to do with the same hormone that makes you nauseous when you are pregnant. It hurts even when I drink Water. I am forceful when dealing with docs, as I have had... things... happen to family members in the past. I requested an anti-nausea med, and when that didn't help enough, I requested another. I am on two different scripts for it. I asked him if it was maybe a stricture, and he dismissed that. (That is ME, I don't know about YOU) Anyway, no one cares about you more than you do, so go to him, or your primary, and be forceful.) If they blow you off, find another doc that will listen. There is NO reason you should suffer.

  5. That is probably just nerves. Every one of us was at a minimum apprehensive about it. Think about anything you have done that was difficult, and said, afterwards, oh, that wasn't all that bad. Think about 3 months from now, when you will see results! I personally subscribe to Scarlett O'Hara's thinking--I'll worry about that later, and find something to distract yourself. Don't let the heebie jeebies win!

Thanks! My husband would be using Medicare and Tricare so this answered the very question he asked me regarding his own plan/path forward.

But there are hoops to jump through. Dietician appointments, a psych appointment (which is pretty useless, as you would have to be an idiot to not see where they are going with their questions.) 6 visits with your primary, one a month. If the place he is going is anything like mine, they give you step by step instructions, and the forms, etc.

  7. Search the keyword nausea for these forums. There are a lot of people (Like me) who are on anti-nausea meds. He said it's a hormone that does that. I am on TWO different drugs-one was suppositories 😳-and I made him change THAT. Without the meds, it is a constant state of nausea. He said it would get better--BUT there is no reason to SUFFER til you do! BE vocal! If he won't help, go back to your primary, or a gastrointestinal doctor. THEY work for YOU.

Was it dumping, the foamies or just your restriction? Dumping makes you feel physically sick & you may vomit or have diarrhoea, cold sweats, heart palpitations, etc. takes time (often hours) to recover. The foamies feels like something is stuck, you produce excess salvia & you may regurgitate a thick foamy saliva & often whatever you ate that was ‘stuck’. I also sometime have a barking cough as if trying to shift the obstruction. It passes quickly. Your restriction is a heaviness or tightness across your upper chest. I find myself thumping my chest as if to relieve & open it up again. It can take longer to pass than the foamies but not hours like dumping.

The first time I had the foamies was with a mushy carrot but potato sits heavily in my tummy - like groan heavy, eaten way too much heavy & after only a bite or two. Still does & I’m three years out. (Bread & Pasta is the same for me.) It’s all part of how we are different.

At the beginning your tummy can be sensitive & fussy. Eat something today no issue. Eat it tomorrow & your tummy is no way. But two days later all is fine again. I called mine a petulant, tantrum throwing 2 yr old.

I thought I may have been the only one that imagines a petulant, tantrum throwing child. My "child" is more of a baby, who sleeps (when things are going well), then can be that baby who is about to wake up in a bad mood, twisting and turning and frowning (usually if I have eaten a little too much) then once in a while, the devil personified....

Did you really look it up? I’m curious where it came from. I’ve never heard it before.

I am at work, so didn't have too much time, but after reading some stuff about the freezing temp of it and why your nose runs....🤢 I decided another time....

LOL... For what it's worth, that made me wonder where the saying came from (other than my grandpa), and it is ill advised to look it up.

Of course, NOW that makes me have to look it up--- 😂😂

  11. I am 3 1/2 months out, and have struggled with nausea/queasiness every day. They say it will get better, but not yet. There ARE meds-ask your doctor! I am on two different ones, and after a couple of months, started taking more of them than prescribed--after looking them up and finding out his dosage was on the low end, and I was not going to poison myself. Call your doc-and be VOCAL!

Actually, because I was dealing with a lot of hunger, my surgical center said it would be okay for me to eat plain, non-starchy veggies between meals, but because of my travel (and also my dental issues!) I have had a lot of trouble doing that.

It's been drilled into me so well not to graze, so I think I've just been eating a lot at meals (Not A LOT, just ... maybe 3 oz of meat, 3 oz of veg, but it still hurts, especially fruit and salad, which I love). I am going to try to slow down some more, see if that helps.

The other thing I'm struggling with is how nauseous I get from my Multivitamin. I would say about once a fortnight I will actually throw up. I've tried three different brands, and the best I've found is to take it with a heavy snack before bed. This week it's been low sugar trail mix, which I never ate before surgery, but seems to work well for me now.

Might be just the way your Vitamin is formulated. Try another brand? LOL my doc said Flintstones twice a day, and that's what I do..for now...

I think that's what I keep telling myself -- there is no normal. And I've read that some ppl lose weight one week and the second week nothing and the third week nothing and the fourth week a ton is lost. So I have read that experience from others...thanks for sharing! I hope you're doing well at 4 months post-op! How much have you lost so far?

So far? From my heaviest, 43 lbs, or to you, 19.5 kg.... or, lol, 2 dress sizes.

My surgery is coming fast, it was moved up via a cancellation to next week, eek! I’m a combo of fear of the unknown, and calmness of giving it up to the professionals to care for me. I’m over 60 and really never considered I could stop the diet cycle by having WLS. A family member had it, and was happy they did it, this and knowing a few WLS veterans happy with their surgery, spurred me on to do gastric bypass. They had a good recovery with no issues. I’m hoping for a great outcome and that it resolves my Gerd and sleep apnea in time as well.

I fear pain, Hair loss, complications, how I’ll feel about all that skin, regrets. I look forward to many positive body changes, more energy, onederland, not being obese, cuter clothes 😀

I appreciate everyone sharing here! I’ve learned a lot.

You know, I'm almost 4 months post-op. I have yet to have hair loss... Pain--and I have had a few surgeries in my lifetime--is not that bad. They will probably give you a few pain pills. Use them. After the first few days, you should start to feel better. I have had nausea--but figured a way to cope with that. Just bought some new clothes this past weekend, in a smaller size--nothing feels better than that, lol!

Hi! I know I'm "new" to all of this. I'm 13 days post op. The first 5 days after surgery, I had lost 7.5 lbs. By the 7 day mark, I had hit a 9 lb weight loss. I was SO EXCITED so I figured I'd weigh myself maybe every 4 days after the 7 day mark. I was REALLY looking forward to my progress, and I was so shocked by the original fast weight loss I just couldn't help myself.

Keep in mind -- I'm STILL on the all liquid diet. Well, the last 6 days, I have lost 0 lbs. ZERO!

Can someone help explain? Is this normal? I'm following all the rules. The only thing I'm not doing anymore is working out since I haven't gotten the clearance, but I can totally go on long hour walks as my "exercise" for now. That's the only plan I have at this moment...

I'm almost 4 months post-op, (I put the wrong date for my surgery, and can't seem to find how to change it) and the only thing I can say is that there is NO NORMAL. It will come off. Your body is still in "shock." Don't get discouraged.
