    Keeping up with liquids

Summerseeker, you said you had so much nausea--how long did it last? I'm about 3 months post op and still am struggling with nausea-
  2. oldandtired

    Gas pains

I was lucky in that regard. The one time I had MAJOR gas, i went and got Gas-X. It worked.
  3. You know, it's so strange how the docs vary so wildly on what and when to eat certain foods. My doc says no salads till 6 months out. So naturally I crave them.
  4. My doc told me the same thing. Don't eat out, cook at home. I think so I could control what goes in it?? How cute. I am alone, I work 40 hours a week, and do NOT feel like cooking and cleanup after. And often I get nauseous at smells, so the crock pot does not cut it. I do the best I can and right now, I am in a stall.....
  5. Cool! I have thin hair, and I have found ways of disguising it, mostly. Enough to where I am satisfied.

    Regrets...anyone?

11weeks post-op, and although I have nausea on and off all day, and am on 2 different nausea meds, I would not do any different. I am not losing as quickly as some, but (one) I have always had a hard time losing, and (two) if I feel like eating, it's better than the nausea. (Eating usually does not cause the nausea-when I do misbehave, I own up to it, lol) I've lost 30 pounds in those 11 weeks, and that's fine with me.. 25 years ago, it took me two YEARS to lose fifty. (Then a family member got sick, and the diet went out the window.) My doc says the nausea has to do with hormonal changes and most people are over it by now, but as long as he tells me it is not a lifetime thing, I can deal with it. Do it again? You betcha!

    liquid diet :( lol

Well, there are plenty of those SAME things out there. Mine told me Premier. 5 a day, and surprise....it was pretty do-able, (if that's a word, lol) I can't say I LIKED it, but I wasn't starving! I also went to Sam's and Walmart, and IMHO if it has the same (Or more) protein, the same or less calories/sugar, why does it matter which one you drink? Just make sure it fills the requirements your doctor says. Equate sold at Walmart is another.

    Clear protein drink

Whatever you drink/eat before may be 🤢 after. Any of the chocolate protein drinks I happily swilled before surgery-I still can't even look at now, at 11 weeks after. Finally gave the multi-packs that I had stocked up on away. I bought some protein concentrate to add to water from Amazon. Opened one. The vitamin/chemical smell did me in. It all went in the trash.

What do you do when you get sick?

Yea, my mother used to give me coke when I was nauseous, to "sweeten my stomach." LOL long time ago

Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )

10 weeks post-op, and daily nausea, so I try to eat right, but it ultimately comes down to whatever will go down and stay down. I will get protein first, if I can, but the first month, my go to was mashed potatoes. The instant kind. I was afraid of, and still am, of anything with "sharp edges" Crackers. Salad. I don't know, it's weird.
  11. Mine was different. I am older, so I have Medicare. My husband was a veteran, so I also have Tricare. I look through the sites occasionally, just because there are changes over the years to coverage, fees, etc. I have always struggled with my weight, but as I got older and less active, I gain a pound here and there. Well--over the last 3 to 4 years, I eventually went on BP meds. Imagine my surprise when I saw that a BMI of 35 and over, with a co-morbidity (as in diabetes, OR high blood pressure) could qualify you for them paying for the WLS! Took six months of jumping through various hoops, and here I am. (Everybody thought I was nuts, but other than the nausea, I have never looked back.)

What do you do when you get sick?

I'm 2.5 out. Taking 2 nausea meds. Some days not so bad, some days I wake up nauseated. I think I'm going to try some sugar-free ginger ale. The regular stuff doesn't help so much.

    weight plateau and energy loss

So I want to know, am I going to have to take the nausea meds the rest of my life??
  14. I tried to be a big dog-found out I was still just a pup! I am about 10 weeks post-op. I was out and about this weekend, and stopped at a stir-fry restaurant. I did order a lot of protein, but it (of course) comes with rice and you have to have baby corn, water chestnuts, etc., etc.. I ate a little, it was so good, ate another bite. (Can you see what coming??) By the time I left, I was sweating, and it's a 30 minute ride home. I was fortunate I had a plastic shopping bag... It was the first time I got the foamies. I would drive a little, then find a place where I could pull over and retch til my toes curled up.. Go a little further...repeat... Back to soft food, and no more stir-fry for a long time!.

    bleeding

Go back to your regular doctor. If you are concerned, that is the best thing to do. Don't assume and don't worry. That is what they are there for.

    weight plateau and energy loss

How long did you have the nausea? I am about 10 weeks post-op, still on two nausea meds, queasy most of the time. I'm 68....
  17. What is the part about lemon/salt? P.S. re the liking it cold..in the vernacular of the south...Y'all just crazy...😁
  18. With me, it's something tangy. Pizza, spaghetti, burritos... I didn't say I ate all that! BUT I learned early that refried beans have good protein, and they don't hurt me. So for supper I get a ground beef burrito and refried beans. I eat about half, and take the other half to lunch.

What do you do when you get sick?

I am 8 weeks post op and I get nauseous almost every day. Don't worry there are a bunch of meds that the doctor can prescribe you. Don't want to take meds? That's fine, but that queasy feeling is a stressor on you. Get them, and keep them handy. Otherwise? For me it was cheese crackers. One at a time very slowly...it may have been the salt in them.

    Weight Gain

AND in reference to the constipation comment.. "this too shall pass." 🤣
  21. I am 7-8 weeks post-op. I never get enough protein! The shakes were no problem before surgery--but I cannot find one now that I don't take one swallow and not turn green! Personally- I figure a routine is further down my life's road. I'm trying to figure out what hurts when I eat, what makes me nauseated, etc. Time for a regimen later. I think if you are losing, you are ok (for now.) Do you want to set a goal? Wait until fall. Your tummy will be healed by then, your doc will tell you how your labs look, and you can set a goal/regimen for getting through the holidays... Just my 2 cents worth. (one more thing-be kind to your tummy.)

After surgery am I doomed to a life of throwing up???

Okay--here I am, the "fly in the ointment." I am 7 weeks post-op. I get nauseated quite a bit, really every day. My doctor says it isn't unusual, some people do. My advice? There are a TON of different meds for that. Had me on a patch when I woke up, then gave me pills. which didn't help a lot, so then he changed it, and I'm all good! He said it would eventually go away. But as long as I have meds to counteract it, I'm fine!

    Ideal transition meals

I tried at first to "do right" and was nauseated by EVERYTHING. Mashed potatoes was the only thing I could keep down. Never could go back to the shakes.... Don't stress too much--stressing is about as bad on you as the procedure, in my opinion.
  24. I'm 6 weeks out, and I never have been able to drink as much as prescribed. I seem to swallow air, then I have to burp, then I get nauseated... I try, just hard to do...

    Help me

I'm going through the same thing--exactly. The doc sent me home with an anti-nausea patch, an anti-nausea pill, and when I called, still after 4 weeks of nausea, added a suppository. 😳 I have heard that nausea can linger for months. But the suppository worked for me. P.S. go ahead and get that burger....then just nibble at the edges. You will fill up on about 2 or 3 pinches...throw the rest away. Do not feel guilty, I don't.
