I was also diagnosed with diabetes type 2 no meds just dieting (which was not my thing 😂) and exercise. My surgeon told me your glucose levels will start to get better. I’ve read that in most cases or about in 85% diabetes would be cured aka go into remission . I have seen my numbers come done from an average of 150-160 fasting pre-op to pre-diabetes number 100-120 which is not bad at all. And again I know all bodies are different. I would love to read from fellow members that have gone thru same experience, and theu marvelous tool of weight loss surgery and lifestyle changes their diabetes has been cured, gain better control or gone into remission.

Happy Thanksgiving. I ate about 2 ounces of turkey and dollops of sides (a spoon of green bean hotdish, a couple spoonfuls of mashed potatoes, a tiny spoonful of stuffing, etc.) and had a small piece of pie. I also had some Martinelli's (that's sparkling non-alcoholic apple juice, for those not in the US) and that really did not sit well... I felt drunk, honestly.
I bloated like a mofo and it took all day yesterday to feel better.

I can relate to this completely. I also enjoy rest and being catered to. I now do my own steaks sous vide and then pan seared with rosemary garlic and unsalted butter. The only season I use is pure salted thick grained. And I make sure to buy lean cuts sirloin top sirloin etc.

You can try to either use low fat cottage cheese or ricotta cheese with it or you have it medium or fried (using low fat margarine) and even with avocado. That has help me. I can’t also stand the nasty smell but I love 🥚

I was neither someone who craved specifically sweet or specifically savoury - more an equal opportunist & liked a bit of both. But sugar now? No thank you. Sweet things taste super sweet. Accidentally bought a box of honey instant oats sachets. Disgusting. Gave them to my mum who couldn’t believe I thought they were crazy sweet.
There were some things my tummy didn’t like to begin like my favourite vegetables (asparagus, broccolini, sugar snap peas) but after a month or so they were back on the menu. I still struggle a bit with mango. My restriction kicks in early & I gurgle lots. Do I still eat mango? Yes occasionally. But I go slow & eat small amounts at a time. Can’t be a Queenslander & not eat mangoes. 😉
Savoury is still fine. cheese, hummus & multi grain crackers when socialising, roasted fava Beans (the chick pea ones taste like feet) as an odd treat. If I want a savoury hit I sometimes roll cucumber in sea salt. Salty goodness. But it’s not often. Lately I’ve been eating salmon sashimi with soya sauce for a salty savoury hit (with bonus protein) for lunch.

Thank you for this. I have been reading about carbs I can eat and I’m so scared about rice, bread, and Pasta. I understand that it will take up to 18 months for the pouch to stretch again. In the meantime, sashimi is my new sushi order.

Almost ALL restaurant food! It's such a shame because I am good at choosing healthy options, and enjoy sitting at a table and being waited on when I'm too tired to cook myself, but it all tastes SO processed! I took my 5 y/o to Applebee's yesterday and I ordered the 6 oz. sirloin. It was so nasty, it's like they smothered it in liquid smoke or something. We went to a Logan's a couple weeks ago, and I spent $30 for the filet - it was terrible! And for only being able to eat not even half of it, totally not worth it. I tried the mashed potatoes, I could taste that they were fake boxed. I've been to Olive Garden and ordered the shrimp scampi just to eat the shrimp out of it - again totally not worth the cost. I'm finally learning it's not worth it to go out to eat - suck it up and cook at home. (Don't judge me for the chain restaurant choices! I live in a small rural town and that's about all we have).

My gastric sleeve surgery was about was just over 3 weeks ago. I’m still on bariatric III which is the liquid and some full liquid diet. This is my first Thanksgiving. My husband, sister and brother-in-law had all the traditional turkey fixings and Desserts. I had Progresso Tomato Soup. Then a couple hours later I had some Sugar Free Chocolate pudding. I guess you can say I had a non traditional turkey dinner. Happy Thanksgiving to you all

I'm still waiting for a surgery date. Had a green salad for dinner yesterday. (My sister and I don't Celebrate Thanksgiving.) If there's pie on sale when we go grocery shopping this afternoon, we might get one. For those who celebrated yesterday, hope it was a safe and happy holiday for you.

I had about 3 oz turkey, a couple of green Beans, a bite of mashed potatoes, and a tiny drizzle of gravy over all of it! Finished off with a bite of pumpkin pie. If I'm honest, it might have been two bites.😋
It's my first post-op Thanksgiving and I'm happy it wasn't as hard as I expected. My family decided to go out to eat this year since some people have moved away and there are only five of us now. I didn't get my money's worth at the buffet but it's worth not having to cook all day, wash all the dishes, and deal with the leftovers!
Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday if you celebrate!

EsojLabina got a reaction from LadyH in Hit plateau after 4 weeks post op
I’m like what the hell just happen - on the day of my surgery The weight was 330 and now 289 which is not bad - I am 6’2 and my healthy weight is about 200 putting me at 130 pounds of excess weight and I’ve lost 41 pounds post op which is about 31% from that excess weight. But for the past week now matter what I do I think I hit a plateau 😤😤😤😤😤 stuck a 289. Is frustrating at the least but I know is a long love journey. I keep my food diary and basically I am doing Keto. Better get back to the drawing board and speak to my nutrition team. Anyone else has experience this post op in the initial stages????
