I had my surgery on a Monday. I went home on Wednesday. On Friday I had to go to the ER for throwing up blood. A LOT of blood. I had aspiration pneumonia and I had to have another surgery to repair a bleeding ulcer by my esophagus the next morning.
I'm 11 months out. I've lost 128 lbs total, but it should be more. I'm the one not to follow. I eat what I want because I don't crave foods any more. I, literally, have a tough time trying to find something to eat. If I get a chicken sandwich out, I eat it without the bun. I've wasted so much money on food, it isn't funny. I might eat 10 different kinds of food and nothing good. I've never eaten fruit and the few vegetables I do eat aren't great for you. But I do eat smaller portions. I'm still losing, so I can't complain. But I bet my dietician will at my next visit! He was so rude on my last visit! He was horrified that I had a piece of pizza. Umm, I didn't say I ate it all at once! I'm demanding to see the other one. My doctor/surgeon, personally, said I could eat what I want, just in small portions. There are times I do throw up a small bit and that's because I don't wait a half hour after eating to drink. I get so dehydrated and I've always drank a huge amount with my meals. Hardest part of this journey ever!

Hi. My name is Laurie. I had the rny bipass surgery 11 months ago. My one year date is 9/14/20. I am 57. I have lost 132# to date. I have 38# to go to hit my goal weight. Everyone says how great that is, but having low stuff esteem, I think of it as a bad thing because I had that much to lose in the first place! That is more than some people weigh all together! I can't believe I let this happen, but I was in a bad marriage. I don't really have an appetite any more, but the hardest problem for me is the not being able to eat and drink at the same time. I get so dehydrated! It's so hard to wait 30 minutes after eating to drink. Sometimes I have a couple sips anyway because I am so thirsty and can't wait. I end up throwing up. Not good for your health, but on the good side, it's only a tiny amount, so it's worth it to me. I used to drink a huge tumbler glass with all my meals, at least. I am tired of Water. I am lactose intolerant, but suffer through it because I'm tired of water and end up not losing as much as I should because I'm drinking my calories. I am starting the process of a double knee replacement surgery and the skin removal surgery. It's not as bad as I thought, but I want the skin gone. With my living arrangements and health, I have not exercised at all. But I would do the surgery all over again in a heart beat. I can't believe I'm not craving food! I thought that would have been the hardest part. In fact, there's probably under 15-20 things I can eat that agree with me. I had only one problem five days out. I had to go back in for another surgery for aspiration pneumonia. Was throwing up blood big time. Other than that, I'm working on me and finally getting a life because I've been a hermit for probably 20 years because of my weight! If your doctor recommended the rny, do it. I'm so glad I did! Sorry so long a post. My first one. Just joined. Really need a support group.

Just had the xiphoid process removable this Monday, outpt surgery. They wouldn't let me keep it!! I wanted a souvenir. Not bad, but I never realized how hard it would be to do things. Bending over is not fun right now. Lol Hopefully it will prove to be worth it. Next surgery: double knee replacement. No cartilage in either. First one next month. Can't wait. They're really getting bad. The irony: they've never been this thin!! Can't win.

Has anyone she had a problem with their xiphoid process?
The xiphoid process is the smallest region of the sternum, or breastbone. It’s made up of cartilage at birth but develops into bone in adulthood. It’s located where the lower ribs attach to the breastbone. The tip of the xiphoid process resembles a sword.
Mine sticks out and feels like a half of a golf ball most days. It is hard, uncomfortable, my bra rubs on it and it makes me nauseous most of the time when eating. My doctor said it can protrude out with weight gain, but should go back down with weight loss. Mine hasn't and I only have about 35 more pounds to go to my goal weight. I am getting surgery to remove it in about two weeks. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

I'm 52 and had the gastric sleeve surgery about 3 months ago. Down about 50lbs including the pre-surgery weight loss. That said, I am working out daily and keeping my calories low. The big difference is that my motivation to loose is high because I am seeing success on the scale. Still had to push through a long stall but so far it has been worth it. Still have at least 40 lbs to go.

Laurie C. got a reaction from summerseeker in Youngstown, OH area/Seeking friendships
I'm 57. My 23 yr marriage was not a happy one, but I stayed because of my daughters (almost 25 & 23 now), I wasn't working and couldn't afford to move. I needed the surgery, but had no insurance. They said we made too much money to get free insurance and we could not afford it. I finally moved back home with my mother & a sister that I do not get along with. Filed for divorce. Finalized Dec of 2019. Had surgery Sept of 2020. I have a TON of resentment toward my ex. He still sees and talks with my kids way more than I get to. The one still goes to his house to do her laundry & keeps in touch with him more because of his bad health (like, how about your mother's health??? I had the weight loss surgery, need double knee replacement surgery, have psoriasis, psoriasis arthritis, major depression that gets worse every day, especially with my living arrangements) & the other just moved out last month, so he had her home for almost 2 years. And now he has started dating. I could care less about him dating, but that chick will be in the house that was mine & still is in my name right now and spending holidays with my daughters! All the while I'm living with my b***h of a sister, mother who has dementia and my life has been condensed into a 14' X 14' bedroom. I can't leave anything in the rest of the house because my mother has OCD and dementia and things will dissappear. I had to leave 90% of my belongings there until I find my own place, which I can't afford being on SSI and I'm on a wait list for assisted housing, but that could be another year. Then there's the guilt of leaving my mother who has dementia. Meanwhile, my ex's life continues on happily & uneffected with family, friends, my daughters and this girl who will be in my home with my things! His life is fanatic and mine is a living hell!! It's not fair! He was a bastard and I'm the one who has no one. I'm trying to get better physically, but my depression is astronomical and getting worse by the day! Sorry for the long post, but I have no one who understands or cares except my cousin, who has a very busy life & I don't get to talk to her much. My daughters couldn't possibly understand. They've never been married or had children yet. They're busy with their jobs, boyfriends, their boyfriend's families and going back to college. I'm the only one completely alone. I'm trying to find someone who lives in the Youngstown, Ohio area that understands what we're going through with our new lifestyle change and possibly divorce as well. It's not easy.
