One week out of gastric sleeve surgery

I am almost 2 months post OP from VSG and still regret it even though it’s getting easier to get required protein and water level in daily. l’ve had nothing but pain, and problems since surgery and to top it all off, my surgeon will not listen to my concerns, talks over me and only seems interested in covering himself against a lawsuit. That’s the only reason I can find as to why he’d send me for an upper GI knowing I was already severely dehydrated, and constipated to the point of impaction. The barium caused even worse constipation, and now I have <TMI Alert> An anal fissure and hemorrhoids because of the strain. I found out I was overdosing my body with omeprazole (through 23andMe) even at only one pill per day. Apparently my body is slow to metabolize this drug in particular. I don’t blame him for not knowing my body chemistry but I do blame him for not listening to me and identifying the symptoms of overdose. like I said I’ve had nothing but trouble, and these few things are a drop in the bucket. I still get nauseated easily, and trying to find foods that are on the list is both time consuming and expensive. People say it will get easier but right now that’s no help. At this point I feel like I’ve traded one issue (obesity) for far more issues (everything that came with VSG surgery). I know my story is only one, and there are a million others. I sincerely hope someone finds my story helpful. Good luck on your journey.

    Post VSG Regrets?

Hi. looks like I’m the only one with regrets. Here’s my story. I am 6 weeks VSG post op and 100% regret my decision. Every single thing has been a struggle. I’ll elaborate. The hospital stay was a living nightmare, I’m not getting help or support from my surgeon, soft watery foods hurt tremendously, I’m having a hard time getting 60g of protein each day due to pain, and nausea, I’m having a hard time drinking enough water because of nausea, and there are not enough hours in the day to get 60oz of water AND 60g of protein. here’s an example of what I’m talking about: I stop drinking water 30 minutes before any solid foods, in this case hummus. Using a baby spoon, I eat what’s on the very tip of the spoon. When I say it’s tiny, I mean it’s really tiny. I mix it with saliva, and swallow. I wait 5’ish minutes, and repeat. About 30-45 minutes of doing this I start getting a nasty pain in my left breast and along my left flank. I stop eating due to pain, not fullness or anything else. I’ve managed to consume approximately 1/2oz by that time, and give up because the pain is so bad. I wait 30 minutes and resume drinking water. I’ve read everyone is different so keep that in mind. Ive tried this process with mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, yogurt, I’m sure I’m forgetting things but those are what I recall off the top of my head. Anything thicker than watery applesauce hurts. Protein shakes hurt too but my surgeon insets I push through the pain and nausea. He doesn’t seem to want to help with suggestions on what to try, he seems only interested in making sure his work isn’t the cause. He isn’t interested in helping me with the pain. I don’t want pain meds, I want him to engage, listen, and HELP. I have several complaints about him but I won’t go into detail here. I think I’m dehydrated but like I said there aren’t enough hours in the day…I suppose I could stay up late to drink more water but then I’d have to extended that time to stop drinking before laying down otherwise I get reflux. I work and all of this is weighing on me at this point. My job performance is starting to suffer. Sorry for the book, and sorry for not having better news to report. I sincerely hope you have a better experience.

    Headaches... ugh

OMG! I had this exact same thing happen to me! I feel for you!! I was told mine was due to dehydration but they never improved the whole time I was in the hospital on IV hydration. It wasn’t until I got home and crushed up Excedrin Migraine and took it. Wish you the best of luck!
  4. Hello everyone. my VSG surgery was 7/29/21 and since then I’ve had nothing but intense pain. I think this is beyond the usual post op pain but I’m not sure, that’s why I’m here. so, first I want to say I’ve already called my surgeon’s after hours call service. Apparently he didn’t have anyone listed as to who takes his after hours calls so, the gal sent my message to him. That was Monday, 8/2. He still hasn’t called. Frankly, if he doesn’t want to talk to me, I sure don’t want to force him to. Anyway, I called because I’m not able to keep up with hydration because it hurts too bad. My sips are 1/3 of an ounce. They barely wet my tongue. Am I doing my sips wrong? Is there a better way? I had a hernia repair at the same time so maybe that is playing a part but should it hurt this bad? Here’s the scenario, I take a sip, wait for the pain, feel it move (sort of), down a bit. There is more than one pain point, though. The first pain, I think, is the liquid stopping at my hernia, but I’m not sure, that’s also the more intense pain point. Then the second pain is a few seconds later. My guess is that pain is when the fluid moves into my stomach. This is the 6th full day of this pain, and now I understand why chronic pain sufferers can be cranky. My question is whether or not this is an expected pain level 6 days posy op. I’m in tears because I can’t keep doing this with this much constant pain. They also didn’t give any pain meds, just told me to do liquid Tylenol.
