Kaguragetshealthy_87 reacted to Koaboy61 in Goal #1: COMPLETE!
Had my RNY October 5th. I was diabetic, so getting off those meds was goal #1. After the 2-week pre-op diet, I had come off all my meds, but was hesitant to say I would be free from those after surgery. Had my appointment with my diabetes doc at 4-weeks post-op, she declared my diabetes was now in remission, and we said our goodbyes! Daily glucose sticks are between 80-92...no matter when I test them!
Goal #2...reduce size & get back to feeling "normal", whatever that will be!

Give yourself grace and patience also don't do too much to fast. I had surgery on the 29th and I'm struggling I had to go back to work after a week because I haven't been on my job long enough for FMLA *eye roll* and also I didn't have enough vacation time. Whatever time you can take off use it!

Kaguragetshealthy_87 reacted to Splenda in Anyone Ever Cancel Their Surgery? I Did... Not Sure How I Feel
Well, I didn't cancel quite as dramatically as you did.
In 2013, I started down the path, doing pre-op visits, etc. At the same time, I started Tim Ferriss's slow carb diet. I did great, had a ton of weight coming off. I realize now that his plan re-inforced my binge eating habits in a way that made it impossible for me to maintain once I went off the diet. But at the time, I had this confidence that I could do anything.
The nutritionist asked me what I was doing to lose weight and I explained the diet. She told me that I needed to realize that once I had the surgery I couldn't eat like that any more. Now that I am post-surgery, I see that she was absolutely right. But at the time, it offended me. I was losing weight like crazy (ended up losing 150 pounds in 13 months) and she had the audacity to tell me that I couldn't keep doing it? I cancelled the rest of my appointments. It was another 8 years before I re-started the process and went through with the surgery in August 2021.
Before my actual surgery, I had a lot of the same fears you did. RNY is a pretty freaking permanent and I had no clue what awaited on the other side of surgery. Laying alone on the gurney during pre-op, not knowing what life would hold when I awoke...that was tough. I had always seen VSG/RNY as my last resort. What I realized was that I had come to my last resort. The next diet was very likely to turn out like all of the others: works for a little while, but the weight comes back. I didn't want to do that to my body (and mind) any more. I have a wife and four kids and they deserved to have me around for a while longer. So I went through with it not because I had confidence that everything would be roses and rainbows on the other side, but because it was the best (and probably only) option for me to turn around my health. Bariatric surgery is a bet on yourself. It's a bet that you have more discipline than you realize (or that your body shape shows) and that if given a real opportunity, you can turn this around permanently. Are you ready to bet on yourself?

OK, click bait title..... I admit it......but I do enjoy looking at myself in the mirror these day. Down 80lbs...started working out late in the game but can tell I've added some muscle mass as well. Proud of my progress. Gastric sleeve for the win a year from today! Trying to squeeze out another 5-10lbs for my 25 year anniversary so I can prance around in front of my hot wife in my swim suit on our anniversary cruise! For all those sitting on the sidelines, jump in. My experience has been awesome!

Had my surgery also on the 27th. Lost 16 pounds the first week. Doing so good doc already moved me onto the puree stage after 1 week. I'm slowly figuring out what I like pureed. BUT the cravings good lord. I just want a slice of pizza, what if I pureed it? LOL. But also, NOT HUNGRY AT ALL!!
Not going to lie. Craving were so bad I literally would chew something I couldn't have and spit it out. I just wanted the taste so bad!
Homemade sauces(apple and pear) with Stevia added. YUMMY!! Made a version of chicken salad with light mayo, lactaid cottage cheese, pepper, salt, garlic powder and celery powder. YUMM!! Made Pureed cauliflower that tastes better than mashed potatoes and pureed Brussel sprouts to get the Fiber. Just experiment but stay away from spicy foods and very acidic foods.

I think I may have been an alcoholic before surgery, on top of having a food addiction. I'm only 2 mos post sleeve surgery, and have loved not being tied to having to have a drink every night after work. I'm terrified that if I take one drink, it will turn into a daily issue again. I also worry about my liver, without the proper anatomy to properly process alcohol, what damage would that do. I'm just going to opt for trying not to drink alcohol again.

Yes. I think it's leftover from intubation. It took a good week for my sinuses to feel normal. The blood thinners don't help a nose bleed either. If it's a chronic issue post op, let your support team know.

3 days post op still in the hospital with 🥵 🤒fever Fluoroscopy, CT w/contrast, Venus ultrasound was done on both of my legs, c-diff panel. Heart Rate above 115. Today I am doing better. They have ruled out leakage, peritonitis, sepsis, A bit worry but I know each body responses very different after surgery. Has similar reaction when my gallbladder was remove. No pain though able to walk freely around the ward, bathroom is not an issue. Cramps because of the gas but other than that ok hopefully the next 24 hours are decisive and taking antibiotics as of yesterday I do not regret going Thru all this I know my health is going to be way better as time goes by as long as I follow my team’s direction. Has anyone else had similar or any complications that they wish to share.

I have surgery on Friday too and I'm honestly so anxious! I just want it to be over. I also don't have anyone here in the city I live in. I know I can get through this as I've always had a "can do" attitude I'm just nervous.

    Hello Ladies,
I was approved for gastric sleeve surgery late last month. I have to see my nutritionist once a month for 6 months consecutively, I have to have bariatric counciling report done that takes 3 sessions before surgery and one after, they did a ton of blood work, I have a upper GI and a echo cardiagram scheduled this week and I have to see my cardiologist to get approval to go off my blood thinners before they will scheduled my surgery date. I'm at my heaviest weight now 471 lbs. I don't know what my goal weight should be, I just want to lose enough to have my knees replaced as there bone on bone and I'm in a lot of pain everyday. I'm 49 and this is me now with a couple of my granddaughters sitting in my wheelchair.

Hi do not worry. I was one of those people who binged like crazy and gained 10 lbs during the liver shrinking phase. I had the surgery on October 21 and all went well. The night before I was scared dr would go in see my Fatty liver and close up. That did not happen. Now if I can gain 10 lbs in liver shrinking phase from not following diet & comeout fine then you have Nothing to worry about with a few slip ups. God luck on your surgery & can’t wait to hear how your post ops going.
