  1. Hi

I'm 8 weeks gastric bypass on Wednesday. 34lb at moment but my surgeon and team say slow and sure as I was like wow people loose far more faster but I started at 266lb.

I stalled at some point but I take a picture every month on the first and the difference is showing.

My mobility is so much better and I can now buy clothes in normal shops and stopping to hide under my baggies.

Your doing great keep up the fantastic work

I‘m curious to see if there are any more europeans on here. My nutritional plan is so so different from what I‘m reading. We were allowed to eat as per usual till about 36h pre op. Since 4 days post op we‘ve been allowed to eat as per usual again just Protein first and easily digestible food.

@Chappers how are you feeling with your bypass? I had a sleeve done but we got surgery around the same time :)

@Arancini I'm doing good. I was in hospital 5 days, had stomach drain removed after 10 days. It was key hole so I have 5 holes plus the drain one. The drain is still healing but nicely. The main work site is still bruised and tender but surgeon said I will feel swollen and pain for probably a few months. It feels like I've been punched and punched and punched but it's not as bad I thought it would be. I'm just over 3 weeks now and progressing from mush to more solid mush if you understand. I will be under the hospital for a year. But mine was done private and its a package which covers a year. I see surgeon again 18th. But see my nutrition lady and bloods doctor on Thursday where he will advise what supplements I require. I add Protein Powder to food 3 times a day to keep my levels up and do B12 injections once a month.

    How are you doing?

My hardest problems are in the mind. I was brought up yo have 3 meals a day

    Breakfast lunch dinner

But now I'm on 7-8 tiny meals a day which I think is too much in my head but they are the portion similar to a very small yogurt. But to eat anymore makes me so ill.

But the advice my nutrition lady gives me is spot on (she has trained to do it I suppose)

    Stay strong and positive

  3. Hi

My care seems alot different to America. I live in Spain. I have a nutrition lady who for 1 month before gave me a full diet plan on what I liked then 3 days before it was Water and 3 Protein Shakes a day. Had bypass on 6th

For 2 days water only then a week of 2 shakes and Fluid. Then onto puree now on soft food.

I'm struggling with eating meat so sticking with vegetable based meals as that sits better with me

I am on 7-8 tiny meals a day.

Big love to all on our epic journeys

I am scheduled for gastric bypass on October 11th. So excited but nervous!

Anyone else having surgery in October?

Sent from my SM-G981U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Had mine done Oct 6th.

Going well. Now onto pureed food.

Got told by doc's rather handsome side kick 3 Protein Shakes a day but could only do 2 made me feel sick. Nutrition skinny lady said he's a doctor I'm the foodie don't listen to him regarding food 🤪 and she's right.

Only bad bit was Dave the stomach drain who I had to go home with. His looks were not so stunning so he got covered with a sock 😏 but after 11 days we separated and went our separate ways.

But all in all good, tired and taking it slowly.

    Big love to you all

    Onwards and upwards

  5. Dear keepthefocus

Be strong your doing it for the best for you and your family.

We all know exactly how you feel Nd what your going through.

I found surgery fine. I'm on day 6 after surgery and I'm OK. Listen to all the advice but listen to your self and body. I'm a very active person with work and home but have had to stop and realise I need time to heal.

    Will be thinking of you.

    Stay in touch.

This time in a year we it will all be a thing of the past and do worth it.

  6. Hi

I'm due to have a bypass on Wednesday morning.

I'm really tearful and stressed. Is it lack of food?

I keep thinking what if it doesn't work.

I live in Spain and have paid to have it done as it's not covered in the health care here nd cost a lot of money.

I desperately want it but scared it will fail even tho my rather handsome (bonus) surgeon assures me it wont. I'm worried about recovery and not being able to eat.

Am I just driving myself and with anxiety? Am I just being a stupid nearly 50 year old woman.

    Sorry

I'd do it again in a heartbeat! I had it six years ago and lost over 200 lbs (although I should add that that's not very common - most people lose around 70% of their excess weight with it - but of course, that's just an average - you'll always find people who lose more or less than that).

I had a super easy recovery - and really no pain to speak of. It was more discomfort for a few days. I would say most people have little to no pain - and if you're one of the unfortunate ones who do, you'll have pain pills with you to manage it.

I had bypass in December 2020. I lost 50 lbs. prior to surgery and have lost 110 lbs. since surgery. It's worth noting that I started with a BMI of almost 54. I've struggled with my weight all of my life. Over time, I developed Type 2 diabetes (which was getting worse) and sleep apnea. Although I was fully mobile, it was becoming more and more difficult to move around. I knew should I ever need joint replacement or fall, the future would not be pretty. Somehow, my blood pressure remained normal.

It has been a good decision for me. I still have 45 lbs. to lose before I would not be considered overweight. I don't know if I will ever reach that or not. My loss has slowed down, which is expected, but still trending downward. If I never lost another pound, I would be happy. Daily living is no longer a struggle. I have energy and feel well. I have been off all diabetes meds since surgery. There is no guarantee that this change will be forever but for now, diabetes is in "remission." I am on cholesterol medication and according to my PCP, will probably remain on that. I still use a CPAP although the pressure has been lowered.

Whatever decision you make, my advice is go to into it as a well-educated consumer. Read, research and talk with your PCP and/or specialists. I attribute my success to a well-grounded program that did not cut corners. I hated every minute of the preparation process and hoops I was required to jump through. I vowed I would never track my food. I thought I was unlikely to start to regularly exercise. I just wanted surgery to fix my problem and I wanted it now. But I now do all of what I said I never would. And I still have work to do. Surgery is a tool that can help. But it doesn't fix your brain. If you don't actually use the tool they way it's intended, it won't work.

I've found this site to be the most helpful with members providing accurate and helpful advice. Be aware of other sites. I also participate in some Facebook groups where I am amazed at the blatantly incorrect advice given. It has also made me aware that there are many programs or surgeons who will be happy to take your business but offer little preparation or long-term support.

  9. Hi all

I am considering having a gastric bypass. Just want some peoples views on the procedure, recovery time, diet prior and after etc. I have a considerable amount to loose and have been dieting since birth and have some medical conditions but have found recently my health is suffering so need to do something.

    Any advice appreciated

    Big love
