cheryl o got a reaction from Shineaiggy29 in What I wish i knew before I had surgery
I had gastric bypass, Nov 1st. What i wish i knew was how bad and frequent the Constipation is, because of the high Protein. And the pain it causes in your chest if you eat one bite after the other. And spacing out your Vitamins. But i dont regret it, after surgery you look at food differently and everything you were taught with the dietician makes sense.

youre right. Only my close family members knew about my RNY, and the day of the procedure my extended cousins from the country and outside came pouring in with questions and i became famous for that week. But then you have those that are jealous and think you're cheating. My sister in law didnt have the nerve to say it to my face but to my mom she did

i has my RNY Nov 1, 2021, the first two things that jumped out when i woke up is, had to pee so bad and wanted to throw up! Being groogy i held it and told the nurses needed to pee. After that all i thought about was the feeling to puke. My pain was minimal. Good luck!

I peed! Was having trouble for a minute, then my cat crawled into my pants which were pooled around my ankles. It was such a normal little thing and I think that made it all work.

I’m so glad that things are working again.

I went to the ER last night, less than a day after being released after my surgery because I wasn’t peeing properly. Just a few drops come out when I knew my bladder was full.

They put a catheter in me (it hurt so bad and still does that I’m afraid to move) and sent me home. I am stuck in bed, can’t move, can’t sit because it hurts so bad from the catheter pressure. I can’t take care of myself, and have to wait for my surgeon on Monday to see me. It’s not clear what he can even do, and may need to stay like this until a urologist can see me.

The surgeon on call was no help just told me to go to the ER. I feel really abandoned and I am terrified that having a catheter in this long is going to make it really hard to pee by myself later. I don’t know how I got into this mess but I am so scared.

I’m just focusing on pain management and staying hydrated. Also making sure the catheter doesn’t backflow, I don’t know what I’m doing and am so upset they wouldn’t re-admit me.

I had a drug resistant kidney infection and almost died 2 years ago and none of this feels very safe to have to try to deal with without any training.

Just like, pray for me please.

I lost hair from 3 to the 6 month mark just like they said. At month 9, it’s all back and thick like it was. Don’t worry - it will come back!

    Hey everyone!
I'm scheduled for my bypass on Feb 14. So far I've lost 8 lbs on the pre op diet and I'm on day 3 but was dieting pretty hard-core the week I got on my preop. lol it's going well but I get food anxiety about stupid stuff though like what if I ate too much lettuce and get kicked out of ketosis? I know it's so irrational and I've done Keto and the nutrition/macro dance of anxiety in the past. I figure as long as I'm losing weight and eating less than 6 grams of carbs a day, my liver is hopefully shrinking.
Anyway, I'm trying not to overthink things. That's been helping me so far. They say when you overthink you create problems that weren't there in the first place. Definitely feel like that applies to following a crash diet.
Well, with surgery approaching I'll be relieved to not deal with this feeling of emptiness. This is probably going to be one the most challenging parts. I can't help but wonder though and I have terrible medical anxiety, what does it feel like when you wake up from surgery? And in the couple of days post op?
    Are you:
    Sore in your stomach?
Can you feel your stomach and intestines?
    Is there a burning sensation?
Are you zoned out on pain killers or you can go without them just fine?
Do you get gas pain right away?
Is it hard to move around?
Just wanna know your experience after surgery, hospital and getting home.
Thanks for the advice as usual. Love this community!

Hi guys, I’m 9 days post op and doing great. I keep down most things. I’m struggling with eggs and getting fluids in.
I’m wondering if I will ever be able to eat fries again? I’m a sandwich lover too so what about bread? Is there Bariatric friendly bread?

also, I’ve gone from 117kg to 101kg in a month but how do I actually lose weight after the bypass? I’m still struggling to walk long distances without feeling dizzy and exhausted

So I was diagnosed with PCOS and could not get pregnant. I became very symptomatic and desperate. I was told bariatric surgery could resolve infertility issues related to PCOS. After I had the sleeve I became very regretful. I know it seems ridiculous. I was so sick of dealing with PCOS. My periods were not coming and I was on a pill to create an artificial period so the lining of my uterus would not thicken (causes cancer) but the thought of only eating a 4 ounce meal for the rest of my life makes me regret the sleeve. I know how it sounds…I just wanted to know if there’s anyone out there that has stretched it. I’m still in the early stages…

    Hi everyone,

I had the gastric sleeve and I am regretful of it. I want my stomach to stretch or to have hope that one day it might. I was honestly so much happier before. I’m wondering if anyone knows if the sleeve can stretch and how much? Is it possible to have a surgeon do this? I realize this is an odd request but I miss dinners with my boyfriend and family. If someone has information please let me know.

Yesterday was my first appointment at Ridgeview Bariatric Center. I met with a nurse first and then the surgeon. I can’t believe I got to meet with the surgeon on the first appointment. Is that normal? The surgeon was really impressive, informative and encouraging. I left with a binder loaded with all the information I need (pre-op plan and checklist, surgery overview, post-op plans for diet and exercise with log charts, meal plans, recipes and more). They did blood work before I left. I drove home feeling so happy and hopeful (I might have shed a few tears). Today the nurse called me to schedule appointments with a dietician, psychologist and exercise physiologist. I don’t want to get too excited because I know things can go wrong at any step along the way (with the psych eval, testing and insurance approval). Right now I’m feeling really optimistic.

I am heavily researching getting gastric sleeve surgery, and this forum has been really helpful. I am curious for those who have had the surgery, or any WLS really; what is something that you found out after surgery that you wish you knew about beforehand. Both good and bad appreciated!

We all lose at our own rate. Some are slow losers, others fast. Both are fine. Your weight loss seems great so far @rgwtwins. About 40lbs over 10 weeks is about 4 lbs a week. That’s pretty damn good. Celebrate those pounds you’ve lost.
Yes, stalls can be damn frustrating but they do happen & unfortunately can occur a few times. Usually a stall will break in its own time without you doing anything different. If you’re worried, meet with your dietician just to ensure you are not missing something. Sometimes a small tweak will kick start your loss again especially if it’s persisting for more than 4 weeks.
Yes @Cheryl A, the higher your starting weight the faster you tend to lose at first but it will slow. If your medical team is happy with your rate of loss, enjoy your weight loss too. It’s probably a bit of a shock but you’re doing well.
