  1. Hi All,
I had lap band surgery in 2009 when I was 22. I lost 100lbs in 3yrs and had a normal bmi. Over the years I've gained 70lbs back and the lap band is a pain.
I have a conversion consult on Wednesday. I've always thought I wanted to go with the sleeve but I now know a few people who haven't had great success with it. I know a couple with bypass who look great and are very happy.
I'm wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation or has any thoughts/advice?
    Thanks!

  2. Wondering how other people manage period pain after surgery.
Before surgery, I would use iBuprofen and that worked perfectly. I would take a couple and it would completely get rid of my pain. Cramps, back aches, discomfort. All gone.
Now, after surgery, I'm not allowed to take it anymore, so I tried Tylenol and it simply doesn't work as well for me when it comes to managing period pain.
    Are there any other options?

I had an abalation done on June 2022, i couldn't stand the pain and the looong 7 days. Now i get 3 days of spotting and no pain.

  3. Hello, i am almost one yr post op. I had my RNY 11/1/2021, down 142lbs and require Iron IV infusion. I am waiting for the insurance approval to get scheduled. Has anyone else done this and how did you feel afterwards? Did you still have to continue taking mutivitamins with iron? I do feel without energy and thought i was doing fine, till my bloodwork never got better

  4. Per my insurance, my surgery will most likely be in January 2023. I’m having to learn a lot and learn to Portion Control everything! I’m having moments of sadness at foods I may never enjoy again. Will the “hunger” feeling go a way even just a little bit?

My nutritionist recommended this site. This is my first post so please go easy on me
congratulations! yes the hunger will go away. Are you having the sleeve or bypass? I had the bypass on November, and my hunger shut down for 2 weeks. Now i feel "hungry" but not like before, and a Protein Shake shuts it down. Its all mental and it is easy as you progress, good luck!!!

  5. Hi all! I’m 8 days post op RNY and I have a question that I haven’t found the answer to while googling. I’ll call my nutritionist tomorrow and ask but just wondering if it’s possible to add Protein Powder to my pre-mixed shakes? Or is that too much Protein at once? I’m having a hard time drinking as many Protein Shakes as I need but I just can’t fit them in. Between drinking all the Water and waiting 30min before and after the day gets way from me. I have a shake in the morning like 8am and I’m still full by 2-3pm.
thats interesting, never thought about that, but the first thing i thought about was, its gonna back you up even faster. My dietician says the high Protein does that. Im 8 mos out RNY, and thats my biggest struggle. I take daily stool softener along with laxative 2 times a week.

  7. Protein Powder is the worst. I'm still in pureed stage so I've been buying Fairlife shakes; expensive but they taste good and are 30 grams each. I figure it's an investment until I can eat more food.
im 7 mos out and still use the fairlife shakes as my replacement. i agree its sn investment till you can eat more, but thats my issue. It causes too much pain.

  8. Going on my first post op date. I haven't dated in 2 years. I am already picturing all the weird things I have to do around food with him. He offered to cook me a Pasta dinner and I had to say no LOL so we're going to a smoothie place instead. I looked up the menu and they have unsweetened tea and coffees so I'll be fine but omg how does one explain it?
Anyway, wish me luck! And feel free to share your post op date stories too

lol, pasta! That would not have not been a clean scenario. But yes, smoothies are perfect! Good luck!

  9. Hello surgery buddies, for the past 4 weeks when i pee, my peel smells like my Protein Shakes. I take the fairlife ones. But am drinking my liquids, i dont make it to 64, usually 50 something oz daily.

And my nails stopped growing, and now britlle and breaking that it hurts to grab things.

My Hair loss is better, stopped thinning and got a hair cut last week. I had my RNY Nov 2021 down 107lbs today. Im meeting with my dietician in 2 week in person to shop at the store and read labels properly.

    Thank you!

  10. Hey everyone. My surgery is scheduled for June 2, and I’m on Day 11 of my 2-week liver shrink diet. It’s been an enormous challenge, and I did have a slip up yesterday (I ate a Breakfast burrito in a moment of weakness), but have otherwise stuck to the diet perfectly. These past 11 days have really put things into perspective, and I can’t help but think about all of the food I’m not going to be able to eat for such a long time. I’ve been having a lot of thoughts like, “Why put yourself through this just to be skinny? You’ll be so unhappy if you can’t eat pizza or tater tots or cinnamon rolls.” I know that I am not going to back out of the surgery, but I hate that I’m feeling this way. I had a little breakdown this morning and cried - I think I was mourning the end of my messed up relationship with food, as strange as that sounds. It was very therapeutic. I’m not sure I ever really understood the depth of my food addiction until now. Is anyone else going through anything similar? Or has anyone else? I would love to know I’m not alone.
I had SAME thoughts! But you know what? Once you start dropping the pounds fast, it changes your mindset, and its EASY to eat what your dietician recommends. Its easier to eat healthy, and choose better options. Because you will "see" that you do not want to go back to before surgery. And yes, i cheat, had a slice of pizza, these heavy foods, give you stomach pain because of the high carbs/fats and you learn to not crave them and eat much less of junk. I had my RNY on Nov 2021, down 107lbs, and you will love it! Keep us updated! You got this!

  11. Is this stupid to focus on? I'm really working on not obsessing over my weight and calories and just trying to listen to myself but obviously it's good to have some idea. I'm 22 days post op and in pureed foods right now. I can eat about 650 calories a day with no feelings of fullness/restrictions. I can't remember what number my dietician gave me, I feel like it was 700 but I'm waiting for her to reply to my message. I'm feeling guilty for eating over 600 calories for some stupid reason. I know everyone's journey is different. Anyone else experience this anxiety? How many calories should I be eating in pureed food and Protein Drinks?

im so glad to meet you. I have fear of calories from day one. i am 20 weeks post op and my fear keeps me under 600 cals this day. i told my dietician i cant make my numbers cause i am terrified of weight regain. Today i had one scrambled egg and two bites of mashed red Beans and im done for the day. if im hungry i ignore it or drink Water till it goes away. im crazy obsessing over failure. Plus i had family members tell me before surgery i would fail. And im gonna show them, not me, this is where my problem comes from.

  12. I thought joining this site would be easy in that i just ask the questions and take it from there i guess i was wrong its always been tough for me to ask for help from others because i didnt want to get hurt but i know by joining this wealth of information from this site i cant lose i guess what i am trying to say is i need some help if i am going to have this surgery , right, i know by qwhat my wife tellls me i will never eat the same way again ( she had the SX) is this true , nor will i look at food the same way again , does anyone have any have any suggestions and/or advice because this is real difficult for me....never mind.[emoji53]

it is overwhelming. I got cold feet for a month and was depressed. I had my RNY Nov 2021, till this day yes i look at food very diff, i think of fat, carbs, and Protein. I get afraid of how it will affect me. But its VERY easy now to say "no" yes, i dont eat bread, Pasta, rice. When i tried it, it caused such bad pain. I cant eat what i did before. Yes it changes your mind psychology, but its good

  13. I was so worried before surgery of dropping weight super fast and having to buy so many expensive outfits for work. Well, it hasn’t been that fast. And thrifting at Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Savers has been fun. The trick is to go to the ones in wealthier towns for barely worn quality clothes. Amazon or Walmart the undies and socks of course!
yeah try the walmart clearance rack, ross, or your local mall. I had clothes from a decade ago that finally fit me. Had my RNY Nov 2021

  14. Hey!
I am currently still getting use to eating food and a lot of things are new for me. I'll be cleared for all foods on March 28th. I was curious did anyone eat low carb wraps or tortillas 2 months out and how did they make you feel?
My family bought me these loven fresh Low carb Protein wraps today. While I appreciate the gesture, I won't eat them until later this month and im a bit spooked to try "bread" again. Wondering if they'll sit okay in my stomach? And in general how do you do with Low carb wraps?
Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

when you try the wraps, pls update. I had my RNY Nov 1, 2021, and yesterday i had a wrap from subway, had it cut in 3 pieces, and all i could eat was one part, because of the pain. I also had on friday 5 pieces of chicken wings and puked it up. I hate the pain and still feel safe with liquids.

  15. So my bariatric doctor is trying to convince me to get the sleeve instead of the Bypass, which I thought would be better for me being that I have GERD & a hiatal hernia. He says he can fix my hiatal hernia and after he fixes it, I would be fine and won’t develop another hernia. Now I’m confused and not sure which surgery would be the best for me. Has anyone who’s had the sleeve ever developed a second hiatal hernia after it was originally fixed during a sleeve surgery?.
i had the gastric bypass because of its severity and restrictions. i know two co workers that had the sleeve, regained weight back and have bad GERD. The sleeve seems too easy because of stretching and talking to my co workers. My gastric bypass was done Nov 1, 2021, down 76lbs to date.

  16. Hello,
I have just started the pre-op process, but haven't decided on sleeve or gastric bypass. I met with my surgeon and he explained both surgeries and the potential weightloss, complications, etc, but I'm still on the fence. What made you choose bypass and are you happy with it? Any issues? Would you do it again?

    Thank you!

RNY for me because i know co workers who failed on the sleeve since you still have your full stomach intact, it just stretches out if not careful.

  17. Yeah I hate lying too but knowing the people I know they are gonna ask for details. And I really don't want to say anything. So I just want to steer them away from it. [emoji19] when the closest people to you disapprove it's kinda hard relying on them for support.
youre right. Only my close family members knew about my RNY, and the day of the procedure my extended cousins from the country and outside came pouring in with questions and i became famous for that week. But then you have those that are jealous and think you're cheating. My sister in law didnt have the nerve to say it to my face but to my mom she did
