    Hey July 2021 Surgery People!

It has been a while since we've had any updates on everyone's progress.

I reached a BIG milestone today & am excited to say that I am 100 pounds down.

Overall, things have been going well.

Have I been perfect? No. Could I possibly have lost faster? Probably.

Some of the things that I have struggled with are getting enough Protein & water/fluids in. I also recently noticed some grazing was returning when I would prepare my kids' snack. I also feel that I need to exercise more.

When I started I was so strict about following the plan as best I could. I know I don't need to be perfectly following everything to a T, but know I don't want to let old habits return or lose out on this weight loss window.

I started trying to focus & Proteins & fluids again. I want to start habit tracking again to try my best to follow my food & activity plans. I also want to increase fruits & veggies. (I recently read 2 of Dr. Matthew Weiner's books and realize I need to try to incorporate those foods more)

Some of my "go-to" foods and drinks currently are: yogurt (light & fit greek), nuts, cheese, fruits, craisins/raisins, salads, chicken, shrimp, crackers, unsweetened iced tea, hot coffee, & iced coffee. I sometimes add unflavored Protein Powder to yogurt & coffee.

I still have at least 20 pounds that I want to lose. I am also realizing that maintaining the loss will probably be hard work, as that is obviously something that I was never able to do before. When I get to where I want to be, I know this is when I will need the most support.

So, I'm just wondering how everyone else is doing?

How much have you lost? Are you at goal? How much to go? What are you struggling with? What works for you? What are your go-to's? Favorite exercises or activities? Products, advice or tips to share? Fears?

Wishing everyone well, hoping you are feeling good, & are at or closer to where you want to be.😁🍀👍

I have passed my goal weight ,
    Hit between 52kg and 53kg

And have stopped losing now , I’m happy with where I am , I look and feel amazing , have lost 37kg

The only downside now is my family telling me I’m starting to look sick and I need to stop losing weight , (I think I look amazing lol)
I’m a healthy weight not underweight
And comments like these are the only thing bringing me down

I have noticed myself snacking more
And being able to eat more
Hopefully I don’t fall into a bad routine
Have to learn to stop myself snacking so much and I haven’t exercised or done any activities so I should really get on that

    Ahh I see.

I’ve been having excruciating right shoulder pain since my surgery. Waiting for a musculoskeletal consultant appointment at present. But I had heard this could be a sign of gall inflammation - but I have no other symptoms so my assumption it’s a trapped nerve maybe.

good luck with Thursday! I hope everything goes well for you x

Get ur GP to refer u for an ultrasound just incase

    Hope u are okay ♥️

    Thankyou hun xx

    You’ve done really well!

Can I ask what symptoms you had that led to the decision to remove your gall bladder?

    Thankyou !!
I randomly got unbearable pain in my chest and under my breasts and back , and went to the hospital not knowing what the problem was, I was told I have gallstones , and have been getting these attacks every few days , I can’t even describe the pain it’s just intensifying pain that literally takes ur breath away,

So the doctor told me I need my gallbladder removed ASAP

So Thursday is my surgery :)

Yes. I'm 18 months out from VSG, and had a gallbladder pain attack. Scheduled for the gallbladder removal this Friday (11/5). It will be laparoscopic, but for some reason I'm more stressed about it than I was bout the sleeve.

I feel the same way :(

Good luck for ur surgery , hope it goes well and u recover quick !

Yep. Had my gall removed 2 years after my sleeve. I had a single stone which suddenly decided to stage a riot - worst pain ever. My surgeon used three of the same keyhole incisions from my sleeve plus one new one. He said once you have one stone you’ll develop others & once you’ve experienced a severe attack you’ll have more attacks. Better to remove the gall.

Honestly, the recovery was comparatively worse than the sleeve. I had gas pain (never did after the sleeve) & a lot of muscular discomfort across the abdomen like lots of pulled muscles which I didn’t after my sleeve. In saying that, the pain wasn’t bad & I was only taking the odd over the counter pain med from about day 3. It’s all relative.

It is pretty common as some have had stones for years & didn’t know - just rumbling symptoms. High cholesterol or significant weight loss can contribute to the development of gall stones as can high bilirubin levels. Some women develop them during menopause. I ticked the boxes for all four possible causes as while I was losing my cholesterol increased (dropped to my usual level once I reached goal).

    Thankyou for the reply ,
I have had 4 attacks just this weeks
I hope they do this surgery soon, I feel like I’m having a heart attack every time !

My recovery from the sleeve was pretty bad for the first 2 weeks , I’m praying it won’t be as bad ! 😢

Everyone loses at their own rate. Lots of factors besides just your starting weight will affect the rate at which you lose: age, gender, activity level, metabolic rate, etc. so comparisons with others isn’t the best way to judge or predict your rate of loss. You may lose faster than one person & way slower than someone else but you’re all being successful. If you think you’re not doing as well as someone else, you could derail your progress because you’ll think you’re failing.

If I compared myself to say Edward12 (congrats on your weight loss so far), I’d think I was failing - I only lost about half that amount in my first month even if I included my 2 & a half week pre op diet loss but my surgeon was very happy with me. I still reached my goal weight in 6 months & then exceeded it.

Unless, you’re losing little or nothing each week (ignore stalling of course) & you’re sticking to your plan you’re doing fine.

Yes i agree , but I guess curiosity gets the best of me sometimes lol
    I’m just nervous I guess ,
I like to see what people have lost in there first month haha

Try to drink, different flavors and different temperatures. But also Just know that going back to hospital as an outpatient and getting fluids is also an option if you do get too dehydrated and it’s needed. I didn’t know that and I had a bit of unnecessary stress thinking I was going to wind up back IN the hospital paying hundreds of dollars more. My doctor got me an appointment and I was given two bags of fluids and by then I could drink a little more so I was good to go.

I think that may end up being what I will have to do , how long after surgery did u go back in for the iv ?

Yes, it's very common. There's a lot of swelling and inflammation in there right after surgery. It's basically a full-time job to get enough Water one sip at a time, to stay hydrated. The good news is, the swelling will go down and the pain will lessen and then fade away. I know it hurts, but keep taking tiny sips. Dehydration is the last thing you need right now. Hang in there, it gets better!

I am struggling to take a few sips of Water
I just had to take 10mls of my medication and just that was so hard to swallow , I hope I am not doing something wrong.

How long until this pain fades away

  10. Hey , I just joined recently , had my sleeve done on Tuesday , still feel absolutely crappy .

    I’m from Melbourne.

My usual weight was always a 57-63 max , started going through depression, taking medications , anxiety , and I was stress eating , depression eating , annoyed at the husband eating , everything made me eat , until I got to my highest of 89kg

I hope you feel better soon! Sorry to ask what exactly is the pain like I'm having mine in about 5 weeks and I'm so scared.

The first 6 hours after u wake up it’s kind of like a burning and tense feeling in ur stomach , feels very painful and uncomfortable

And yet that it’s more just a tense feeling of pain
