Down 110 pounds since surgery on June 20. I’ve decided this week to not worry about losing and just maintain. I’ll start losing again next week. :)

I find that I can eat absolutely anything, just not a lot of it. Yes…you CAN have three dessert ( answering the above post), but just one bite of each. :) Not every day. Not even every other day. But once in a while.

I have begun to try and eat more normally in the past four weeks. I get in my Protein and nutrition….but I’ve begun to eat pizza and an occasional cookie or maybe tortilla chips with salsa. But I have two bites of pizza, one bite of a cookie, or 11 tortilla chips. I’m eating it all but very very consciously.

That is an amazing loss, you are definitely doing something right! I am also not too focused on weight loss at the moment, or should I say I wasn't - going to get back into it, been giving away all the chocolate and alcohol I was given over Christmas and New Year (I'll admit I did sample some of them 😉) I think I have had one piece of pizza since surgery, potato chips are my weakness but i always measure out a serving - like 14 chips and do not over do it. I'm not a sweet person, very savory and salty is my way to go. Happy New Year

Another June gal here. I'm down 40 lbs (but that includes the liver shrink). I have 10 lbs to get to my doctor's goal, but 20 to get to where I'd really love to be.

I was doing really well until I had a severe sciatica episode Thanksgiving weekend. I've had back issues for 10 years or so, with a few flare-ups, but this was the WORST. The nerve that controls my right leg was pinched and I couldn't use it at all. And unfortunately, I tried to stand on it and ended up falling and messing up my knee. Long story short, I was given a mega-NSAID by urgent care until I got to see the pain doc a few days later. And of course, I took it because I was in too much pain to care. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'm able to walk now, but the only exercise I'm doing is PT. So hopefully I won't be tempted to go too far off my eating plan and gain. I've been cheating and eating more carbs than I'm supposed to. It's so hard when you don't feel well. Carbs are my comfort foods. But at least I can only tolerate a small amount of them.

    Best to all of you!

I'm very sorry to hear about your flare up/episode. I hope you are doing better now!! Look after yourself, indulge every now and then and congratz on your weight loss so far!.

Team June 2021, I hit my 6 month mark today!

Since surgery, I am down a little over 80 pounds and a little over 100 pounds. Overall, I feel so much better! My daily feelings vary though. Some days I feel on top of the world (very healthy/slim) and other days, I feel like I have a long way to go and wonder if I will ever make it to goal (very fat). I have more good days than bad and I am happy for that. I move much better and exercise daily, either walking 3 miles, lap swimming, or playing adventure fit on the nintendo switch (aerobic exercise). I also lift weights three times a week. I thrive on consistency and I track everything.

In regards to the upcoming holidays, it has brought on emotional feelings and this is the first time I have had doubts about having surgery (so I can never eat three different types of dessert at one time again...like ever?) It has come on in the form of anxiety and I know my hormones are out of whack; I can quite literally feel them coursing through my body it seems. I am working through this and I think I figured out this wave of emotion is because I previously associated celebration, family, and relaxation with food very deeply. So, while I have no cravings or real fear about making healthy choices, I clearly need to re-read chapters that cover emotional eating and relationship with food.< br />
May this holiday season be everything you desire - time with family, time alone, rest, a time to get pesky tasks done, inspiration to set new goals - whatever you need!

    Take Care All!

I've tried the adventure fit, I HATED the lifting your knees part - wonder if I'll be any better at it now?? I think I had it on easy too 😎 That is an incredible loss, well done you. Food regrets.. not being able to eat as much as you want and then be in food coma the rest of the day - however I found a solution, I ate everything I would normally eat in the 1-2 days over the course of a week. Small bit of steak here, different type of potato salad everyday (my tummy doesn't like potatoes but it's my favourite food, so a mouthful every other hour mwahaha..)

    Happy New Year

I also have not been nauseous, AT ALL, I have not found a food I ‘can’t tolerate’, BUT I don’t ‘try crazy different foods’, I stick with what works for my schedule and routine. I know we are supposed to ‘switch it up’ so we don’t get bored. That’s NOT me, I’m boring, Protein Shake for Breakfast, tuna n cheese stick for lunch. Supper ‘varied’, usually chicken breast, and a carb smart ice cream for my ‘sweet’!

That's amazing you haven't had any reactions to food, I'm so happy for you! I use to have a protien shake every morning for Breakfast but 1. they are starting to make me nauseous (I think the smell not the taste) and 2. I can be lazy haha. Since it's summer where I live the last two weeks or so I have mostly been eating salad based meals. Not much protien which I know is naughty but I tell myself I get enough in all the cheese I eat 🤣. I have quite a few foods that my body no longer tolerates. one is the curried eggs that we only ever get made for us on Christmas day! last year I ate a dozen easy over two days, this year I ate half of one and felt terrible afterwards! Booooo very sad no more eggs. Ah well

Oh and congratz on the weight loss! Slow but steady and as long as your not gaining in my eyes is a win!!

  5. Hello fellow June-eys! How is everyone doing? Are we nervous/excited about all the yummy food coming up for Christmas that we cannot eat? 🤣 I am still having alot of issues with trying food and tolerating it post surgery, so all the food over Christmas and New Years will be an interesting challenge.

Lentil Pasta and bread are pretty much carbs. I have read a lot about those not being easy to eat for many people after surgery.

Also, you might be eating too quickly? Not sure, since I've never watched you eat 🤓

Meal prepping is great. When I was working at home I did that. Now that I'm on the road it's actually a lot harder to eat healthy.

I agree with @SleeverSk that you might consider having a Protein Shake (or a low sugar yogurt) in the morning if you're feeling nauseous. Also, could your Multivitamin be making you sick in the morning? I take mine at night and if it's been too long since dinner, I get really nauseous. I'm going to try taking it with dinner.

Some things that have been very easy for me to eat (I'm 8 weeks out) are ground turkey/chicken, deli meat, tuna fish with Miracle Whip (you could use mayo, same thing), trout and other fish, and refried Beans. I had a really hard time with lettuce but most other veggies have been fine.

    I hope it gets better.

I thought I was being clever with the lentil pasta, dang lol. If its not you in the bushes with the binoculars at dinner then who is it? :D I mean maybe I still am eating to fast, I didn't really think so but its always a possibility I'll keep that in mind thanks, I know its not that I'm eating too much, could just be what I'm eating. I wouldn't know how to eat healthy on the road, that must be a big learning curve?? chicken isn't agreeing with me atm so I might move over to tuna for awhile, last time I tried that I don't remember any problems. Thanks for getting in touch ❤️

It will get better, baked Beans are ok high Protein so dont feel bad about eating them cheese is a Protein food too. I find toast sits in my stomach and i dont feel great for that day. So with a sleeve you are suppose to be able to eat most things and from what i hear it gets easier over time, i have discovered i can drink coke no problems YIKES !!!! I was a bit frightened to eat a lot of things but i am starting to try food that i use to eat but in reality i dont think thats a good idea ( take away queen here ) dont want to fall back into bad food choices. can you have shakes on the mornings you feel sick? It could be that you are eating to much and thats why you get the foamies. Are you on reflux meds? Could be you have a touch of reflux too.

I've moved to sugar free coke etc, I don't drink much but I try to stay on the sugar free as I'm pretty sure that plus alcohol was my biggest nemeses calorie wise. I've actually 'discovered' low/zero calorie teas such as raspberry and strawberry and also orange and turmeric which are now my go to drinks; not too sweet but a decent flavour. On a good day I do have a shake for breakfast - the only way I can drink it is if I cant smell it (weird hey?) so normally in a bottle with closed lid and straw (gasp) and I try not to think about it while I'm having it or I feel ill. I have gone through so many brands and flavours so far the one I'm on is the only one I can tolerate, other days it's just a flat out no. My body likes to keep me on my toes haha. Im back on omeprazole which has gotten rid of all my reflux/heartburn =]

  8. My clever way of thinking when I first started using straws again - around 3 months post op. Take a sip through the straw, let it sit in the mouth for a moment and exhale as much air as possible out through the nose before swallowing 🤣🤣 I thought I was winning - not sure who I was winning against? the straw?? Haha, I never had any issues unless I drank too much or too fast - just like when I drink out of cup or water bottle

  9. Hi, I am four months ish post op (21 June) some days are REALLY hard. I personally wasn't given enough 'important' information before surgery and have had to find out a lot of things the hard way. Since surgery there is a lot of food that I cannot eat 75% of the time - I'm not sure why every now and then my body doesn't have a bad reaction but its getting rather frustrating. I didn't know after surgery I 'couldn't' eat certain foods I just knew that I shouldn't if that makes sense. Since I cannot eat much I meal prep once a week and freeze 3/4 of it, otherwise I don't think I would make anything. Today has been a pretty crappy day, too nauseous for breakfast, took over 30 minutes for one piece of toast for lunch and my meal prep was Tomato chicken with red lentil Pasta and spinach ( I can no longer eat normal pasta as that makes me sick) - I only had two mouthfuls before feeling sick and foamy. Does anyone have any food suggestions?? right now my body is not liking pasta's egg or starch. I'm afraid ill fall into my old habits of baked Beans and cheese haha. thanks for reading =]

  10. what are you eating? that can affect you and make you nauseous, also I dont know if you have been told this but exercise actually makes you feel better. I understand a bit, i have really off days where im in bed most of the day feeling horrible and thinking surgery was a mistake, but when i finally convince myself to get up and get moving i do feel better. the first few months are a massive adjustment that is why i love this site as so many people have had similar experiences however they pushed through it and so will you! find people to care and support you, dont be hard on yourself, talk to ur doc/therapist/however you need to help you through this. xx

  11. Do you have any non number victories? e.g can walk around places no longer getting winded, able to sit in a chair you werent able to before? you need to focus on those just as much if not more than the actual numbers. im only a month post op, for the first 3 weeks i lost nothing and then the 4th week i lost 6pounds, weight loss is not linear, keep doing what you are doing and sooner or later you will start losing weight again. in saying that congratz on losing 116! that is amazing in just 8 months!!!

soft foods has been great! I can’t eat regular scramble eggs. But I can eat egg bites from the instant pot. I make mine with ricotta cheese, mozzarella, seasonings, spinach, and diced deli turkey. A dot of hot sauce adds the kick I crave. Have you tried the ricotta bake, deli meat roll ups with a soft cheese, or deli meat “burrito”? Yummm!

Hey! that sounds yum got a recipe for that?? - i don't know what a instant pot is.

  13. I am still sticking to my plan - haven't weighed myself at all, in one week it'll be a month post op and I can! 🤞 good results 🤞 too much pressure alot of people are having on themselves, I still have the battery out of the scales. Im going to see if I need B12 shots from doc as I was told I might need a shot once a month, if thats the case I am going to throw out my scales COMPLETELY and get weighted at my GP once a month! I feel like that will take the pressure off?

    How is everyone’s scars healing?
I have 4 incisions. 3 look good. One looks red and feels hard around it. No pus, but that area hurts sometimes.
im using Mederma at night and silicone tape in the day.

I also have 4. The one right below breasts is a ma zing! looks so nice where as the other three well... I was told i had dissolvable stitches yet I can SEE the 'string' coming out of at least one of the stitches, and they are suppose to be fully healed by now and I have a massive urge to pull it cos its so annoying! plus the lower three have lumped underneath the incisions, they are not straight or nice looking, one of them even looks like 'duck lips' im not happy at all. Oh well, going to start putting that stretch mark and scar gel on them soon and see if that helps them.

How is everyone going? Im onto soft foods, slowly testing the waters. In love with plain old tuna in spring Water just straight out of the can and baked Beans with feta cheese. Cant keep down eggs tho which is sad because I just bought egglette cookers especially! Hopefully later down the track as I am really craving scrambled eggs and ketchup!

  15. one thing a nurse told me which could help you is to let the Water slide down the back of your throat the first few days instead of swallowing, i personally found this tedious very fast but when i did do it it did work. the first few days to a week are THE WORST trying to get in water, just do your best it will become easier i am now three weeks post op and drinking water is a breeze whereas the day i was discharged I was having so much chest pain I actually thought I was having a heart attack and was going to die while I was in a hotel room all by myself, I survived and so will you! it gets worse before it gets better and you can see from so many positive messages that it does get better! xxx

    Emotionally roller coaster:

Yesterday I was so upset! I didn't blow my top but I wanted to. I finally ended up taking my anxiety meds and calling it a day. Today I'm super depressed.

Anyone else running the gamut of emotions?

Hell yes! Ive cried more this week than i have in the last year, its so strange im flying high then hitting rock bottom generally over nothing as well

Im also finding myself bored and I dont like it. did an hour on the treadmill (3x20min sessions) which might have been a bit to much but aside from making sure im taking all my Vitamins and getting all my fluids theres nothing to do! its the middle of winter here so that makes things a little bit tougher when its raining so often. need ideas to keep me busy

You go girl with all that activity!! I had my 2 week check up yesterday. All is well she said. I too was taken OFF the blood pressure med! She said all my levels/tests they took in surgery were all good! No liver problems. My weight was down 9 pounds since surgery ( 15 days). But I’m ok with being a ‘slow loser’, as long as it’s headed DOWN! I too need to hide the scale! My calories are around the same, 450-500, I have to get them up a little. She kept me off work for 2 more weeks, to make sure I was healed 8 still have ‘pulling/burning’ sensation when I move/reach/stretch wrong. She did say all THAT would be gone within the next week. I was very relieved to hear that. That’s what I was worried about going back to work with. shakes are my main Protein, thankfully I didn’t lose my taste for them. As far as food goes, I measure it out, and can get in 1/2 comfortably. I haven’t ate anything that made my new tummy angry yet, I’m sure I will soon with introducing new foods though. I want some chicken, canned, grilled ( not fried) , something to CHEW! Lol

Well done on being off blood pressure meds! yay. glad all ur results came back good and u were able to find out about that pulling sensation! my brother and his fiancé can over unexpectedly tonight. I haven't told them and they said we are having dinner together, quite scary, they bought me takeaways that I use to love, so i tried them. managed to eat one jalapeno popper and about three hot chips before I was done, that was terrifying, felt a bit sick afterwards but managed to keep everything down. I wont be doing that again anytime soon haha, but it was nice to know I can eat different things if I want. Wish I could have had more though, I miss jalapenos... and I have all the leftovers from tonight, might try some for lunch tomorow

  18. @Tripletsmom1971mmmm mashed potatoes, girl after my own heart. Hopefully your follow up with be great!

I've decided I'm just going to do what I want to (within reason) so started some gardening and mowing of lawns today, what would normally take me an hour took three with breaks in between and right now I don't hurt as much as I thought I would so going to keep increasing housework and do other half of gardening and lawns tomorrow. When deciding and preparing for this life changing event I didnt think to consider I would have to be searching for information myself instead of being told by doctors. Live and learn I think with our emotions they are going to be all over the place for awhile! Ive also decided to hide my scales (I actually took out the batteries and everything) and only weigh myself once a month. otherwise I would be weighing myself daily and keep getting disappointed Im sure more than once or twice, going to weigh myself on the 21st of every month =] I have ordered my Vitamins, didnt even know I was suppose to be taking them already until I read on the internet I should have started at week 3, woopsie hopefully they arrive soon! Im getting in my Water and Protein (from shakes and whey) but not getting enough calories in only at around 550 I have to try harder but still can only eat just over a tablespoon at lunch going to have to think of something there.

    Surgery twins!

    twins!

how r u doing so far? 2 weeks today!

I got so excited today was my two week post op appt with surgeon. Had to be by phone call as I flew out for surgery but home now. Was late to call and then talked down to me for 10 minutes regarding things I already know and I wasn't able to ask a single question! When she hung up on me with the note 'will send a bloods test at three months talk to you later' I just burst into tears. I got so much weighing on my mind and nothing was answered and you can only trust the internet for advice so much. I have over a page of questions some of which I think are super important. Going to call my GP in the morn and see if I can get in with her ASAP, didn't even get to confirm whether or not bandages can come off, uncle Google says yes but every surgeon is different so who the hell knows? Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!
