  1. I am 2 months post surgery today. The day before surgery I stopped taking all of my diabetes medication which consisted of metformin, glimiperide, Ozempic and tresiba. I have not taken ANY of them since surgery and my A1c is down from 6.7 to 6.3. My hope is with continued weight loss my A1c will go even lower. My diet is high Protein low carb about 600-800 calories per day. I feel better than I have in years.

I think our bodies have "set points" or different weights our body wants to be. I think I had/have five "set points". I stayed on my first one for two weeks, my second set point (stall) lasted a week and I just broke thru and lost 3 pounds in two days. Set points are hard to break thru but with our wls tool, it is much easier than before. Good Luck!

    This was helpful, thanks 😊

Ozempic is not generally used for weightloss probably because the dose is too low to be effective.
Did it control your diabetes prior to surgery?

It did control my diabetes very well and I think it is an excellent drug for diabetics. The cost will likely be prohibitive for weight loss. Even with insurance it cost me a lot of money.

  4. My sleeve was done on 5/20/21 so Im a week in and doing good with full liquids and Protein Drinks. The bariatric Protein chicken broth is about the best tasting thing I have. I have had greek yogurt (light and fit) and Im allowed sugar free pudding and Jello. The doctor said I was doing so well I can add some mushy food this weekend like the ricotta bake or some tuna fish. I cant wait! 😂

  5. My endo stopped my insulin 3 weeks before surgery because I was only having Protein Shakes and one meal consisting of Protein and vegetable. My food intake was not enough to cause high blood sugar. I remained on my metformin until 2 days before surgery. Since surgery I was told as long as my sugar remain under 170 I do not need to go back on metformin. Im still on the full liquid diet and perhaps as I add food back I will need medication but Im hoping thats not the case. 🤞🏻🤞🏻Prior to surgery during the pre op diet I did have one sugar drop and was able to eat some crackers to bring my sugar back up. No crackers allowed now so I would be afraid of a sugar drop.

My voice coach told me to ask them to use the smallest tube possible. She said the probably won't agree to a 5, but might agree to a 6. And to tell them I'm a singer, and ask them to be VERY careful putting the tube in and taking it out.

If I was having a voice procedure (I need a minor one every ten years or so) my voice doc would be watching out for me.

    Good luck with surgery!

My surgery is this Friday, 5/28. I decided to post with the June crew, since I will probably have more of a shared experience with you folks. (And I'll be the first in the group to have surgery.) I was originally planning surgery last June, but stuff happened.

My pre-surgery diet has been both shakes and solid foods, 1000 calories a day, 90 grams of carbs and 90 grams of Protein. Five days before the surgery, they had me start an immuno-nutrition drink made by Nestle three times a day. It's made my otherwise tasty shakes taste like medicine. Too bad.

Does anyone think they will notice if I have one last Whataburger the night before the surgery?

I have pre-admission testing Wednesday, the dietitian consult Thursday afternoon, and I have to be at the hospital noon Friday.

BTW, I am a singer, amateur but pretty serious about it. I sing in two men's quartets. They both rehearsed last week for the first time in over a year. It felt SO good! My voice coach tells me I should plan not to sing until the surgeon clears me for lifting. I'm hoping I can push that up a bit, but they will be messing around in the neighborhood of some muscles that are crucial for good singing.

In one of my quartets, they asked what kind of surgery I was having. When I told them "gastric bypass," one of the guys said, "I had that." He's even bigger than I am. Turns out that before the surgery, he weighed 525, and now he's 280. It was a life-changing event for him. Now he can sit on the floor and play with his grandkids.

I'll post in here when I get the chance, possibly from the hospital. They tell me I will be in for one to two nights.

My doctor told me a story about a patient that swore she kept the diet and when he did the surgery he was picking onions out of her stomach. Not sure how true it is but it made me think twice. I would take a pass on the burger.

i was intubated for surgery and my throat is still sore to a degree, I had my surgery on 5/20/21

  8. Day 2 home from surgery. Doing well I think. Gas pains/spasms can be painful when they come but for the most part I have minimal pain. Im getting all my fluids and Protein in. Took all my pills ok today. Im breaking my allowed food down into 2 ounce cups and eating with a baby spoon to avoid accidently eating too much at once. Im on a full liquid diet, yogurt, ricotta cheese, sf pudding, protein Soups (clear), sf ice pops, Protein Shakes. Compared to my pre op diet this is heaven lol
