    Scared to do this but more scared to die

    Hello Carrielee, Everyone has worries doing this surgery, you are not alone there. You seem to be at a place where there is no going back this time. Most of those things that are wrong with your body will disappear with this surgery. It would be a win, win situation if you could go through with it this time. I will not tell you it will be easy because its not. I had a lot of new stuff to learn and adapt to. I will say that I had zero pain. I did this, I was very disabled. I can rush around now like a spring chicken. Go and get this amazing life, hold your nerve, its so very worth it.

    Plateau

    I had so many, they lasted from a few days to 3 weeks in the first year. The second year they lasted much longer, I had one lasting 3 months and I thought I had finished loosing. I stepped on the scale one morning and found that a whopping 5 pounds had fallen off me. Just hold your nerve and follow your plan, good luck

    Yes this is a good tip. I have a certain eating out handbag that just fits my box. We don't always get the option of a doggie bag here so I always go prepared. My husband is always a grateful benefactor of my left overs

    Hello Amanda, Just trust the process, it really works. Hold your nerve. Try to not look for ways to break the stall. Your body needs the small rest to begin dropping again.

    Always feeling cold

    Yes its a thing. My fat coat insulated me so well and I never realised it. I wear so many layers now. My poor suffering husband sits in his boxers in the lounge and I huddle under a blanket. I had a Amazon delivery yesterday and when I opened my front door the guy laughed and said ' Wow you live in a green house ' If I guess the English weather wrong, I get so cold I feel ill. We really can have all four seasons in a day. Strangely, if I over eat I also begin to shiver

    Advice Needed: Reflux After Sleeve

    Hello and welcome in the forum. Yes its awful. I got this after the sleeve too. After 2 years I have found foods and drinks that trigger it for me. Wine, orange juice, spicy food etc. My issues are mainly in the night. I don't know if my symptoms are better than before or I just manage them more efficiently. I wish I had zero problems and could eat curries again You might already be doing these things but I will mention them just in case..... Use a wedge pillow under your normal pillow Sleepy on my left side is better than the right ? Don't eat 3 hours before bed and no fruit after 6pm I take Lansoprazole twice a day, religiously at 4pm, 2 hours before my evening meal and at Midnight, the time I go to bed. These times work ok for me. I have the liquid and tablet form of Gaviscon, yuck. I swig it in bed if I have it and have woken with a half sucked tablet stuck to the top of my mouth. Never heard of blowing air in a stomach ? Would it not just stretch a stomach ? I have read of one person on here who had the revision and still had issues. Lots have been cured

    Bad Knees and excercise

    Aqua fit is the best fun and exercise for old knees but like you, after 10 years of doing it, my pool has closed. I cried. Now I just walk. I keep to the flatter areas. I also find shopping in the city is quite good because I walk miles, in and out of stores and all around the markets. I buy very little but enjoy the browse.
  8. I am not sure if its the same around the world but our milk comes in 1,4 or 6 pint plastic containers. The inner seal, under the cap has me every time. I used to be so strong, my hubby would pass jars to me to open. Now they put seals on toothpaste tubes that I have to pull off with my teeth. My dentist would go berserk if he knew

    Raw vegetables?

    Raw veg still fills me up very quickly and stays a long time in my stomach. Especially carrots. I do like a salad though so I eat half and about 3 hours later I can finish it.

    Pureed foods. Yuck!!

    I couldn't do it. I just stayed on the liquid diet for longer. My team okayed this BTW. I had soups, mostly home made that I blended. I added lentils to the recipe to get some protein. You could eat cream cheese, hummus, protein yogurts. Sorry a bit brain dead its been a long day. Others will chip in Dont overthink the process, ask here it when you get to it.

    50 and over crowd?

    Isn't that strange how Doctors can differ. He told me straight that it wouldn't do a thing for it. Over here trying to find one who knows what it is, can be a full time job. A few have just looked at me in disgust and as much as said there is no such condition. It took me 11 years to get the diagnosis, I thought I was going mad. My biggest problem is sleeping. What ever part of me that I lie on hurts and I wake and need to turn, again and again. As soon as I could I crushed the tablets up and got them down me that way. Geez they are vile crushed. Good luck going forward, let me know how you get on

    1300 calorie pre-surgery diet

    Wow. Every cell in my body is telling me that this new regime is so wrong. I have no idea why anyone would want you on such a low calorie diet. It seems to me she wants you to diet the weight off rather than have the surgery. Did you ask why ? You are on the lower weight for the surgery. Loose much more and you may be too low to meet the criteria. My maintenance diet has me on 1500 calories and I don't exercise. If I worked and exercised as I did in my younger days, I would be on about 2200 - 2500 cals a day. You need to be fit and healthy for your surgery. Such a low calorie diet is too restrictive. Why is the diet not more future proofed, for learning new habits, like less carbonation, less sugar and less carbs. These seem to be the goals that are set by others who have to do a pre op diet rather than a pre op liver shrink diet. I hope others will wade in and help you here because to me its madness

    50 and over crowd?

    I have Fibromyalgia and it has not changed because of weight loss. The surgeon told me this. I had zero pain when I woke up from the surgery but was a little tender in my stomach area. I take 8 Co-codamol a day when the pain is fierce and a 10mg Amitriptyline every night to help me relax. My new tiny stomach was very swollen and I couldn't take the pills for about 4 weeks. I had some morphine patches from my doctor but it wasn't severe enough to be an issue after week 1. I take 2 tablets for GERD a day, These have to be taken separately from my pain meds because of absorption issues.

    I have not had any limits on alcohol drinking or coffee or drinking with straws etc. I think patients in Europe have slacker rules than you American cousins. I tried my first drink at 6 weeks, I had a weak Bloody Mary and it was yummy. I was born and raised in a pub, had pubs myself and drunk a lot over these years. I could hold my alcohol well. Now one glass of wine has me smashed for about 20 minutes. Last Christmas I went out with a friend and it got a little silly, I had at least 3 glasses and for the first time in my life, I don't remember going home. That scared me. I felt as if I had been spiked. Wine and cider give me awful GERD, Baileys gives me get the foamies. Something and lots of soda seems to work best for me. My husband calls me his cheap date, Cheap means different here.

    Emotional Care post Surgery -

    Hello @MelP1970 and welcome into the forum. You are in a very strange and bewildering time in your recovery. You might be regretting your surgery, lots of us do. The fat cells that you are shedding so quickly at this point, contain your hormones. Fast weight loss means so many are coursing through your body now. Its like puberty all over again. I was so emotional and could not understand why. A kind soul on here put me right. It is a massive learning curve right now for you. Just relearning to drink is a full time job . You are lucky, like me, no hunger pangs. I also love to cook. Once I was physically able to cook again, I restarted feeding my family. I make my portion separately from theirs. For instance, If I make Lasagne for the fam, mine has no pasta and I use sliced baked aubergine instead. Having a wide knowledge of recipes has really helped me vary my food choices. I am 2+ years out and do not feel any loss issues because I can eat almost all the foods I could before surgery. I still have a few issues with certain foods that I adored pre surgery. For instance, I detest cooked salmon but make my own Gravadlax and it tastes divine to me. I hated eggs and now I find them delicious ! If I have carbs, its only a few spoons. I make own wholemeal, seeded bread. This means I can eat a sandwich. Its not the same as regular shop bought stodge which sits heavily in my stomach for hours and then gives me the foamies. I still enjoy eating but now a tiny amount suffices. Being thin feels better than eating huge meals. Long ago, I read that Parisienne women ate this way, a few forkfuls and they leave the rest. My immediate family are used to me eating what I can and putting the remainder in the fridge for a later snack. I have a friend that I eat out with once a week. It was hard in the beginning to find things I could eat on a menu but now I usually have a salad which to me is a joy. I love the variety and crunch. This forum has members all over the world. People post pictures in the ' Food before and after' page. I find things I have never heard of before. This leads to new recipes to cook and taste. TBH my menu has expanded now, my food is more nutrient dense and much better quality. Give yourself time to accept the changes and challenges. You will feel your normal self quite soon.

    Having second thoughts.

    Fear of the unknown is huge. We are human, it is hard wired into our DNA to protect us in prehistory. My fears keep me awake at night too, I hate that. You can jump ship or postpone the surgery but you will wish you went through with it. Hold your nerve and get it done and you will be overjoyed. This surgery is life changing. You wont be alone when you wake, the nurse assigned to you will be watching your progress. You shouldn't be in pain because that would be bad practise. They need you to get up and walk around asap. You couldn't do that in pain. I had zero pain when I woke because they gave me meds in my drip. You will not wake up screaming in pain. You might feel tender in your mid section. I hugged a pillow to my stomach for a few days while standing. Breathe, take each day as a chance to stay or jump. Get yourself to the morning of surgery and then decide.

    VSG stall

    Did you go with a company/ nhs hospital in the UK ? I am surprised to hear you are getting no help if that's the case. If your surgery was abroad then you need to tell them if they don't respond to your questions then you will be leaving them a truthful bad review. People are really searching these sites for honest feedback and will take note of yours. If its a UK company you need to email the hospital director and ask why you are getting no help. No one can do this without the help of a team, its a huge change for all of us to master, both body and mind. I am maintaining now on 1500 calories a day which I log every meal. I lost weight on anything around 1200 - 1400 calories a day building in 60 grams of protein a day. To loose now you may struggle because your hunger is back. I would imagine that it will be hard to go back to protein and vegetables when you are hungry, leaving the filling carbs off your plate. Keep us posted, you are not alone.

    constipated

    My first poop was a doozy. I woke from surgery with terrible diarrhoea. After that I didn't go for 15 days. I really struggled with that one and had to manually help myself go. The protein in the protein products make me terribly constipated. I only have them when I really need too now. It took me an age to work out what was causing it. Now I can eat fruit and veg it is easier.
  24. I had the Pho broth from week one, I made it myself so it was not too salty or chilli hot. It was so good I could have bathed in it. At 2 years + now, I can manage a couple of spoons of noodles at the end of the meal. I don't crave mountains of noodles now, I am used to just a few for the mouth feel.

    Post-op diet troubles!

    I just could not do puree, I did soups instead. I chewed any big lumps or squished them with the back of my spoon. I found a lot of these forward steps difficult. My team were very happy with me going at a slow and steady pace that suited my new stomach. When I was ready I went straight to regular foods like minced meats and vegetables and well cooked stews and casseroles. You will find what you can eat one day will not be ok another day. My new stomach has tantrums even now. Just do your best. I was so turned off food and was never hungry. I had a filthy taste in my mouth all the time, numerous tooth brushings never altered this. I too had deep regrets, everything I ever knew about eating was altered. I had to find new ways to find pleasure because now we have to eat to live and not the other way around. You will get there, just ride this out. Your hormones are running wild at the moment so it is all against you at the moment. Weight gains and stalls are all par for the course. You will get them all the time. A full bowel, a salty meal or salty broth can cause a temporary weight gain. Just stick to the plan and believe , it works. Soon you will be able to make your teams water and protein goals then you will feel so much better. People think that doing WLS is the easy option. Its not, especially early on. Contact your team and tell them your struggles. Get counselling if you need it. Chat and vent on here, we all have. Everyone has had similar issues.
