Hello everyone, here is an update....its been a few days since surgery and I'm doing great already down 7lbs....I'm taking in 30mls of shake / Water every 15 min per doctor orders. I make sure I walk and use incentive spirometer to prevent pneumonia. Sometimes I feel hungry but I think it's a head thing! My doctor wants me to get down 64 ounces of water a day and 2 60 gram Protein Shakes a day....I'm no where near able to do that yet, I can get down 1 30 gram Protein Shake and maybe 20 ounces of water. I'll keep trying though. I had my surgery in Monroe Mi for those of you who asked. Also after surgery I had hardly no pain, I slept most of day because of the anesthesia but other than that, I was up walking marathons they were very proud of me. I'm so excited about my journey I do not regret it so far! Good luck to all, keep us posted!

hello, started in July of last year with the process to rny. In the middle of the 6 month program I went on vacation and when I returned weighed in at my highest , 378! Day of surgery I weighed 363 and am so close to the 200’s. I remember my surgeon(who no longer performs surgery bc of all of its complications, he told me after my surgery) told me the closer to a BMI of 60 the less likely of long term success. At my highest my BMI was 61. I’ve only been in the 300 for the past 2 years or so and prior was mid 200s. My BMI is now exactly 50 and I love watching it go down. I will succeed and am bettering myself and my body everyday. Since surgery I’ve lost a little over 50 pounds and can tell a huge difference but do not get many comments from other. I know once I’m down another 20 it will be more obvious bc my clothes are now pretty big and loose.

Guys, this thread is really great. I started this journey at 419 pounds and I'm a week away from my 5th of 6 dietician meetings. I'm currently at around 385, just from following the pre-surgery diet.
I go through so many of the same issues with restaurants, airplanes, folding chairs, etc. And I absolutely always go for aisle seats, just so I can lean to one side.
My surgery date is going to be sometime in June, and I'm glad to have found this message board.

i was 520lbs at my heaviest before i started my pre op diet. I had my surgery on dec30th of 2015. I had my 3 month post op visit this morning and i am down 104lbs. I feel amazing my energy level is through the roof and i can do a lot of things i couldn't do before. I really been working hard every day with exercising and sticking to a strict diet. I do not and will not become the person i used to be.
  7. Congrats!

I started at 415, with an all-time high of 426. I had the surgery last November, a month before my 61st birthday.
Right now I'm at 309. I can't report anything unusual to date; everything has been good with little pain and good progress.
I empathize with all of your frustrations: the chairs in restaurants (especially booths), airplane seats, event seats, etc. Next Monday I'll be on my first airplane flight since taking off over 100 lbs. I'm anxious to see how things go.
Obviously, the health improvements have been great. I can walk now without getting winded; climbing stairs is pain-free and easier; I can sit in a stadium seat with someone next to me, etc., etc. But I still have a ways to go, being slightly less than halfway to my goal. Blood pressure is way down, heart rate is down, all my blood numbers look great. For me, this was the right thing to do.
  8. Congrats!

I'm 35 and had gastric bypass. Started at 425 with diabetes, high cholesterol/triglycerides, high blood pressure... and probably sleep apnea though never tested. I just passed 6 months out and have lost around 150 pounds. Best decision I ever made. Daily life is 10 times easier. My surgeon had no reservations regarding doing surgery. I did the standard 2-week liquid pre-op diet that he prescribes to everyone. It was tough, but I stuck to it. Surgery was one morning, and I was released the next day around noon. Was off of pain meds within 2 days... and back at work (desk job) by day 6 post-op
Weight came off quickly. I've never had any serious complications. Never had issues introducing new foods when my post-op diet allowed for a new phase. Only time I ever dumped was when I overate a little bit due to eating too fast.
Energy is through the roof, I'm off of most of my meds, and will likely be off all after my next checkup. I sleep much better, and apparently hardly snore anymore. I've gotten back to doing things I haven't done in 10+ years, like assisting on the ice with my kids hockey practice. I no longer worry about stuff like "does that restaurant only have booths" or "I hope they don't have folding chairs at my kids school play." I've flown on an airplane again no needing an extender and with the arms down. I don't sweat the minute the temp rises above 65 deg F (in fact I'm cold all the time.) Sex is much better. I could go on and on. Only negative thus far has been my weight loss has started to slow at 6 months out... but I also am not putting much effort into working out, so once I kick that up, I'm sure it will improve.

I know what you mean. I ate 2 Oreos last night (granted, much less than I used to eat) and had no problems. I still am having issues with protein-dense foods, though. I don't feel terrible for eating the 2 Oreos, but it probably is something I should avoid in the future. Unfortunately, my family loves the junk food so temptation surrounds me!
As long as we make wise choices most of the time, an occasional slip-up isn't worth the anguish.

    You guys are so right.
I know that I should not have eaten it. I am on puree diet, and the NUT gave me a recipe for a pureed cheeseburger. So I got one, only I didn't puree it, I took very small bites and chewed it up until it was liquid and ate really slow. I should have just pureed it like the NUT said.
I will not do this again. Although the burger did have tomatoes, and lettuce as well cheese and very little bacon, and it was a very small burger and Yes about 1/4th of the bun.... but I still think that I could have made a better choice.
I'll do better next time LOL

Sweetie, congrats on having been sleeved!!! You've come so far and worked so hard to get where you are right now. Please afford yourself every opportunity for a healthier lifestyle. Cheeseburgers are good, in fact they are better than good they are simply delicious and there will be time for them down the line but for now we have a strict plan to follow and we can definitely do it. Be encouraged. The best is yet to come!
    All the best,
    Niki

BlackBeauty734 reacted to JPacella in Almost at 2 months and lost 60 lbs
I had my sleeve on March 3 at Northwestern in Chicago and am down 60 pounds already (357 to 297). This surgery has done wonders and I've had such an easy time of it I kick myself for not doing it sooner. My post-op pain was minimal, I had no problems sticking to the post-op diet phase changes, I've hadn't had any cravings or junk food slip ups yet.
My energy level has been remarkable, I'm walking around 6 miles every day (I walk to/from work, I walk during my morning break, during lunch , afternoon break). It is starting to get to be a bit old, so I'm going to start step aerobics next week to ratchet up the intensity.
I was diagnosed prediabetic a few months before the surgery and they put me on metformin. At the hospital they took me off it.
I had high blood pressure and that's been dropping steadily, I was on Linisipril-HCTZ and Amlodipine. Now I'm just on plain Lisinopril. I'm glad I'm off the Amlodipine since that was causing some ankle/calf swelling which stopped right after I stopped taking it.
I hope to be off the Simvastatin soon. Next week I have my first post-op full blood test since being discharged so we'll see how well blood has cleaned out.
The sleep apnea is getting better too since I can tell my machine is definitely over-powered now, but I know from taking a nap without it that I still need it.
So all in all, I feel like this has been going perfectly and totally glad I did it.
