Hey I feel you! It is okay to feel frustrated. My clothes feel loose so I was surprised to discover I’ve “only” lost 15 since my surgery. Total of 25 pounds including the pre-op diet.

I know I had a hopeful vision that my weight would just drop off, but that’s not what’s happening and I let myself feel the frustration.
I will say that I’m going to switch things up next week and try paleo. It’s more in line with my values, so I’m looking forward to seeing how my body responds. It does mean giving up the Protein Shakes but I’m going to track Protein and ensure I’m still getting enough.
I already prepped a few things - including cabbage and bacon Soup that is delicious! Bone Broth is 10g protein per serving!

So I am not sure what your Surgeon’s plan is for calorie counts is at your stage. I went through an 8 day stall and only when I increased my cals from the 500-600 mark to 700-800 did I start losing more weight again. Starvation mode is a real thing, and because you already lost quite a bit of weight on the pre op diet, your body is possibly stuck metabolically with the lower calories.

Edit: with the amount of activity you’re doing, I’d say your cals are way too low.

IMO anyone binging or addicted needs to address their relationship with food in addition to surgery. Check our Rachel Goodman who will help you understand where binge eating comes from or get a therapist to work through your issues.

I used to get so hungry that it was hard to think- hard to figure out what to eat that is nourishing and satisfying. I started to change my relationship with food but the hunger felt like a beast that I had to quiet down by stuffing my face. So the surgery complimented my new approach.

I have not weighed myself except at my two week follow up where I was down 8 pounds.
Most things I’ve tried have been fine, I track what I eat and how I feel and my habits (64oz+ Water, walking for 30 min, vegetable juice, and vitamins). When I hit all 4, I draw balloons in my journal

How moly, it’s almost hard to look at! I still have so much work to do but I cannot get over the changes in under 6 months! At times I really miss a cold beer (and I am not really a drinker) or a good old dish of homemade Mac and cheese but then I look at old photos and it quickly reminds me that I don’t need them that badly! What do you miss or what gives you that added incentive to shut the fridge door?

Just following up, tomorrow marks 2 weeks since surgery and I've lost 21.6lbs so far. I can start soft foods tomorrow (yayy done with liquid!) And I'm cleared for gym and exercise starting Saturday.

Go see a intuitive eating dietician. Also a therapist is a great idea too. Sometimes it's difficult to adjust to such a big change in a small amount of time. Once you get into a mindset that nothing is restricted, you won't crave them any more, and when you do crave them, a little bit will be satisfying. Look into intuitive eating. It saved me, it validated all my feelings. Shaming yourself is the worst thing you can do. Also, make an appointment with your baractic office to see if it might be something else. In my bariactic classes before surgery they told us that if we start gaining weight to give them a call immediately. I hope all goes well. Please please please be gentle with yourself [emoji3531][emoji3531][emoji3531]

Sitting here this morning in my chair doing some reading. I glanced over to my table and saw the current yummy chocolate bar I’m working on. It has eight segments, each one 56 calories. I am now to a point where I can allow myself this treat and control it. Where back in the day this bar (plus likely quite a few other sweets) would be gone in a day, now I savor one square in the evening while I read. One Bar now lasts 8 days! I actually have to keep it sealed in a baggie to keep it fresh. In addition to all the other benefits, my sleeve has given me the control over food that I never had before.

I would do a self care reboot and contact a therapist. For self care, I buy myself beautiful flowers (lavender colored roses are my fave), take a bubble bath, put on some music and dance, maybe get a massage or pedicure. Whatever you like and feels good!

I think I am wanting Snacks more often than I should. Perhaps this is because I can't eat very much during my regular meal and my body wants more? I think to deal with this issue I'm going to go back to recording my food to actually understand how much food I'm taking in and I'm going to get some therapy. I think that the surgery helped my fat body, it didn't help my fat head...lol. Before surgery I tried many things to help me get it "right" although I never did. There are a ton of reasons why I ate and why I eat now. I want it to be about nourishing my body and not about all the other reasons why I want to eat.

    Hi April Sleevers,
How's everyone doing? I'm feeling better. Looking forward to starting purree stage which is Stage 3 for me next week. I'm curious about how my body will respond. I picked up some broths of Thai Soups today for the weekend to give me a little variety this weekend for the last few days of my Full liquids phase. Did not walk the past two days and it will rain all day tomorrow so I'm feeling a bit bummed about lack of walking. Hoping for at least a small break in the rain tomorrow so I can get outside and do some walking in the park. If not, Sunday seems to have better weather forecasted.
Attempting to work a few half days next week to see how my energy level holds up. Starting Tuesday and only committed to a three day, half day trial next week.
I can see in my face that I've lost some weight. Interesting. Will take first after- surgery pics at One Month. Only weighing once a week at this point. I don't want to create stress or anxiety by checking daily. There are a lot of posts on this site about the negative impact of scale watching. I got this surgery for health reasons, not numbers on a scale. So, I'm not fixated on numbers on a scale. Scale watching can easily become a transfer addiction so I hope that everyone is being careful with that and not putting unrealistic pressure on yourself to lose weight super fast. Let's do this healthy!
Throat pain situation seems to be about wisdom tooth extraction one week before surgery and the impact of surgery on that process.
Still no BM without assistance. So, will probably use assistance every other day until I start solids which should help.
Vitamins make my tummy feel a bit unpleasant or unhappy. So, combined with the nasty taste, I think I will need to switch. Talking with dietitian next week about the situation. I really want to use Patches, but my surgeon isn't a fan of that.
I have to stay on myself to get in all my Water and Protein each day on the full liquids stage. If I get distracted by doing a task at home or have a doctors appointment, I get off track and it's hard to catch up since we shouldn't guzzle anymore. I can get liquids down pretty quick. But, really trying to be kind to my tummy and not drink too fast.
I watched a couple good videos on YouTube last night by Dr. V. The most helpful one was about the texture scale he created and deciding what to eat based on the texture and dryness, mainly after our initial stages.
Hope everyone is resting and adhering to stages suggested by our WLS programs so that you are protecting your new tummy. Let's be kind to our bodies. 🙂👍 Protect your healing. Make healthy choices! (I only share this because I've read some interesting stories on this site about food off plan that folks ate early on and the negative impact or sometimes no impact which gave false impression that it was ok to do that to their recovering bodies when its definitely not.) No judgement. Just hoping we will all be safe during healing.

    Hey all,
just wanted to share this yummy recipe that is good enough to replace mashed potatoes! this has a much lighter mouth feel and a touch of sweetness from the natural cauliflower flavor.
I find an immersion blender works best. Tried in my regular blender and it did not work so immersion or food processor is recommended.
    1. Break up a head of cauliflower into florets (stem pieces too).
    2. Toss with olive oil or spray with cooking spray. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
    3. Roast at 300 degrees for 20-25 min until tender and golden but not burnt. Keep an eye on it.
    4. Put roasted cauliflower in a sauce pan (If you have an immersion blender) or a food processor. Add 1/3 cup chicken/bone broth and 2 tbsp of cream cheese. Blend or pulse in food processor. You may need to add more broth or CC to get the consistency you desire. *you could prob sub ricotta or cottage cheese for more Protein but I haven’t tried. Feel free to add Protein Powder too!
    5. Flavor with more salt/pepper, Parmesan or any cheese, plus garlic, onion powder, cayenne to your taste.
