    Severe Anemia-

I was told to take vitamins with food to help with absorption. I find that taking it with food helps with the nausea. I take my multivitamin at night, but I eat a good snack with it. It can still make me throw up if I don't have enough food in my stomach!
  2. Unfortunately, this wouldn't really work for me as I eat most of my meals out due to work travel. I'm always "guestimating" what I am eating, but usually that is not an issue if I make good choices. At home I do make recipes in MyFitnessPal and know exactly what I'm eating. But that's only 1-2 days a week most weeks.

    Affordable personal training

I would watch some youtube videos designed for plus size people. They tend to be gentler and take into account how bigger bodies move. You could also do a leslie sansone walking video (I'm sure you can find that on YouTube as well). You will not find a personal trainer for low cost. Where I live it's about $90-$100 per appointment.

    Post-Vomiting Stomach Sensitivity

My surgery center said that after we have an episode of vomiting we should drink only clear liquids for about 24 hours, or until the vomiting/nausea subsides. I was throwing up a lot from my multivitamin but my stomach was fine after I threw up the multivitamin. You might reach out to your surgery center, but you could try resting your stomach? Did you take anything like benadryl after the bee sting reaction? I wonder if that would help/hurt.
  5. It took me 7.5 months to have surgery after I called the surgery center. I used that time to practice eating healthier/lower carb and I lost 50 lbs before surgery. I'm so glad I did that!
  6. I had surgery 8 months ago, and I think about it probably every hour or two still, which isn't really what I was expecting. I was hoping that it would become "second nature" and I would just be eating less and feeling great. I am eating less, but I am uncomfortable after every meal: If I eat so little that I'm not uncomfortable, then I'm super hungry in 20 minutes. I only stay "full" (not HUNGRY) if I am stuffed after I eat. There are some good ways in which I can't forget I had surgery: I every time I see myself in a mirror (Like in the bathroom) I realize how much smaller I am, and every time I get dressed I think my clothes are so small they can't possibly fit. Also, I can walk faster and I fit in plane seats better. But I'm always cold, so it's hard to forget when I'm freezing all the time. I know that part of it is that I'm always on these message boards and support groups, but I was hoping to feel more comfortable and "used to" having had surgery. Is anyone who is a few years out NOT thinking about surgery every few hours?
  7. I went back and forth between sleeve and bypass because I was worried I had GERD and also wanted the best weight loss (my surgery center also does only sleeve and bypass, because those have the best data). My surgeon and the second opinion I got both recommended sleeve, in part because of medications I take (like @ShoppGirl) and also because it's just a very simple option. I know you are worried about regaining weight, but the thing is, you have to take care of yourself by changing your habits. And you're less likely to be really sick after sleeve than DS (although many people with DS are totally fine!)

I'm not really a "designer" type person. I don't like that they always have big brand logos/designs, like I'm a walking ad for them. I feel like if they want me to advertise their brand, they should pay me! I have seen a similar product from a leathercrafter I bought a purse from for my mom, and that's a good idea - thanks!

    The perfect size pan

I just never learned how to cook one portion, plus I'm traveling most days for work, so I'd have to go buy groceries every week for the one day a week I'm home, and it's hard to do that. Buying and cooking once a month is much easier.

    Sometimes the truth hurts

As I said on the original thread, you were right, and I apologize. I just err on the side of taking people at their word. She said she was eating 1200 calories, and I know there are people who don't lose weight well after surgery - but I didn't realize that the weight loss with ESG is really kinda low anyway. So, she just chose the wrong surgery and her head wasn't in the right place, as she made clear in her later responses. I still don't think tough love is the best strategy for most people, but it sounds like she really needed further work on herself before she went through with ANY surgery. Again, my apologies for attacking you yesterday.

You were right. She made herself clear in her later posts. I was giving her the benefit of the doubt, but I was wrong, and I apologize. FWIW, I don't think she was a troll.

    Sinus/cold before surgery May 16th

Did you take a COVID test? Your hospital probably requires that prior to surgery anyway. If it's just a cold or allergies, probably nothing to worry about, but they likely wouldn't do the surgery if it's COVID. Good luck!

    Vitamin patches

Our surgery center also said no patches or gummies. I agree with setting an alarm or taking it with other meds that you already remember to take. The vitamins make me nauseous, so I take them at night (with my other meds) after a big snack. It is something to think about, definitely!

    The perfect size pan

Odd that only men are expected to cook one egg lol. It does look pretty handy though! I tend to cook a big amount (like 20 oz of ground meat, a pound of mushrooms, some onion, garlic, sauce, spices) and then divide it after cooking into small containers to freeze so on those odd days when I'm home I have an easy meal to heat up.

    Consult questions

I agree with @ShoppGirl: Bring a written list of questions. It's so hard to remember everything and I feel like doctors and surgeons are always rushing you. In particular, if you are taking any medications, I would ask how they might need to change after surgery, which will depend on which surgery you get. For example, any extended release medications often need to be changed. I would also ask about whether they have a bariatric therapist available for after your surgery. I see a number of people here who after surgery face a lot of issues that could best be addressed by a bariatric therapist. Most therapists are not well trained in these issues and it can be hard to find a trained therapist on your own. Good luck!

Achieving your goals and rewarding yourself

Maybe I should upgrade my Amazon fanny pack when I get to goal! Or at least replace it with a non-plus-sized one so the strap doesn't dangle ridiculously! 🤣

Achieving your goals and rewarding yourself

I keep seeing variations on this theme here, and I never know what I would reward myself with. Partly because I'm so fortunate to have enough money that I can buy and do most things I really want. But also, I tend to be a spur-of-the-moment shopper/planner, so if I see something, and I can afford, and I want it, I buy it, or book the trip (a lot more of the latter, as travel is my passion). Of course, I'm not buying designer clothes. I'm more a thrift store, LL Bean, Chico's shopper. I do buy crafts, especially jewelry and ceramics, but again, I just buy stuff when I go to a craft show and never thought of it as a reward. I can't imagine getting a tattoo or plastic surgery (Not a fan of pain). I sort of agree with @FutureSylph - the weight loss is its own reward. I love that I can shop in regular stores now, but honestly, I'm not all that excited about the clothes they're selling. I love that I can fit more comfortably places, and walk faster. Maybe I'll think of something. I'm open to suggestions...

Please tell me I haven't failed.

Sacrifices DO suck, but that's called being an adult. I don't want to do my expense reports but I have to if I want to keep my job. I don't want to do my laundry or take a shower, but I have to because that's what an adult does. I HATE exercise, but I do it anyway, because it gets me to my goals. I miss eating big desserts and big meals, definitely. If you're looking for sympathy, you've got mine. But... if you want your outcomes to change, you have to change your inputs

    1. Restaurants: I eat out about 90% of my meals because I travel for work. I just think carefully about what I'm eating and I stop when I've had enough. 2. Sweets: You just... have to make some changes in order to get the results you want. I have always had a sweet tooth, made worse by medications I take for bipolar disorder... but... I try not to eat sweets much now, and when I do, I use sugar free sweets or have a tiny piece. I CAN eat too much sweets without my restriction kicking in. It's up to me to make the choice that aligns with my goals for long term weight loss 3. Nice food: I love nice food. I just don't need to make it the only thing in my life anymore. I enjoy almost all of my meals, especially when I can enjoy them with friends or family, but it's not the only thing in my life (and I'm Italian!). It kinda sounds like you want to have your cake and eat the whole thing - you can't eat every single thing as much as you want and lose weight, and only have a surgery that is less effective, and not take time off from work, and not like fat people and not weigh your food... We all want it all, but it's just not possible. I would love to have NOT had this surgery that makes me uncomfortable all the time. But I wanted to be thin. I think you really haven't made up your mind what it is you want yet.

    So I learned something today

Right after surgery I had a hard time drinking water and even 8 months out I still don't like it as much as I did before surgery, maybe because I can't guzzle it. Here are some things I drink instead: Hot Tea Iced Coffee 5 calorie juice diet soda (my surgery center says it's fine after 4 weeks post surgery) diet sweet tea Starburst brand drink packets (five calories, found at Walmart and Walgreens) Great Value brand drink packets (Walmart)

Also, try Starburst brand drink packets and Walmart's Great Value brand packets. I hate crystal light but I like both of those

Before despairing (or cutting down to 1000 calories or buying who knows what online), take a deep breath and wait until you meet with your surgery center. Hopefully they will be helpful!

    Sometimes the truth hurts

Maybe YOU feel better when people are giving you tough love, but most people do not. Most people find "supportive" comments make them more inclined to change their behavior. And, you were probably struggling with your weight for years before surgery. Did anyone "telling you the truth about how you're doing everything wrong" cause you to meaningfully start eating healthier and exercising more? If it did, you wouldn't have ended up getting surgery. There is so much scientific literature that shows that BULLYING is not helpful. Telling people that they MUST be doing everything wrong or else they'd have great results is NEVER going to make someone change their behavior, and it ASSUMES that there is something wrong with what they are doing. Since you are not their doctor and have not examined them, and you do not follow them around all day watching what they eat and do, you can only assume that she is doing everything wrong; you really have no evidence, and I know there are a lot of people who do everything right and still don't loose much weight. JUST STOP BEING MEAN AND UNHELPFUL

Phentermine didn't work for me the first time because I ate AROUND it. I ate when I wasn't hungry. If you can really listen to your body cues about hunger, the surgery might help it work this time around.
