Tuesday I’ll be 1 month post op. I was doing so well my first week post op. Getting all my Water and Protein. Ever since week two days have been hit or miss. I keep water down but food makes me so nauseous. I don’t know what to do. Protein Shakes, eggs, lactose… all makes me sick. I’ve thrown up multiple times a week lately. Today I woke up and felt so hungry but I couldn’t keep anything down. I feel like such a failure and so defeated. I regret doing this most days and I feel so alone.

I am scheduled for Monday (07/26)! I am nervous, but in a good way? Like I know that the process is going to be the hardest thing I've ever done, but I know it will make me the happiest I've ever been.

I’m having my surgery today. I am in my bed at the hospital waiting for my turn, normally scheduled in 30 minutes. A bit stressed, but happy at the same time to finally get it done at last. It’s going to be difficult but this is a new beginning

So 3 days post-op now. I have to inject myself with the anti-coaggulants for 10 days and I have to do the liquid diet for 10 days as well (so 1 more week to go!).
One question... Is anyone else in the liquid stage hungry? I mean, I wouldn't be able to eat a normal meal, but I'm still hungry like I WOULD be able to... Anyone else? I can't wait to eat some solid (pureed) foods!

New here. I was scheduled for sleeve on the 27th but my pre surgery endoscopy found changes confirmed as Barrett's esophagus. Sooooo I am now gastric bypass, fingers crossed that the VA blanket approval will be applied to my original date of surgery.

Mine was on 7/6 too! I’m doing pretty well. No nausea or vomiting so I guess I’m pretty lucky. Just now starting to get all my Protein and fluids in. How are you doing? Hopefully we’ll!

Got home from the hospital this afternoon - stayed 2 days. Not gonna lie, still feel pretty rough. Surgery apparently went fine, did the bypass and fixed a hernia. The stay in the hospital wasn't great. My IV infiltrated twice so my right arm is blown up like a balloon. I'm up 12 pounds from all the Fluid in me. Sporting my stylish compression stockings for the next 2 weeks. Looking forward to getting through Sunday when I can finally have some Soup. Still no regrets.

Beth1022 got a reaction from text in Family Support
I am having gastric bypass surgery on July 28 and my extended family has been adamant that I should get the sleeve instead of the bypass. Seven of them group texted me last night about it. I felt like i was being attacked. They basically think that every horror story is going to happen to me. They act like I haven’t done an enormous amount of research on the subject (which i have of course) and don’t know the risks. Has anyone else dealt with this?

    Hey folks!
Long time lurker around here as I was preparing to my surgery but todays the day i decided to sign up because I have a question and I was hoping some body experienced something similar. Today July 2nd is exactly one week post op for me. I had a revision Sleeve to Bypass on 6/25.
Ive been on full liquids for a few days now having zero problems. My 1 week post op appointment with my surgeon was yesterday and he applauded me on how well I was doing. No nausea, able to take in over 70 grams of Protein and 50+ ounces of Fluid. He told me to give cream of wheat a try so tonight I decided to do just that.
Well I finished the entire packet of Instant cream of wheat and have no full or uncomfortable feeling and I was curious was this normal? I was expecting to feel like I'm busting half way through. I know everyone is different but I fell like that's odd. That I shouldn't have been able to finish that. I remember when I had the sleeve back in 2016 when I moved to soft food I was full for the rest of the day after my first bite of tuna salad.
    Anyway thanks for reading.
Hope everyone journey is going well!
    Chris

Beth1022 reacted to loridee11 in 18 months post RNY
I am just over 18 months post RNY surgery and am incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity for this tool, and glad I made the decision to do it. Even with everything going on in the world today, I am feelling happier and healthier than I have in a long time.
I am 5'10, just turned 43 year old women (41 at time of surgery). Highest weight was 334, day of surgery 292, today I am maintaining right around 160. So many non scale victories, but a few of my favorites:
    - I have a ton more energy. I used to fall asleep on the couch after work most nights, and weekends I did errands and chores and rarely had the energy for much else. Now, I use my evenings to chores and save my weekends for hiking or other fun activities.
    - My knees and ankles don't hurt. Before, just walking around the block meant pain, and my knees ached everyday (arthritis). Now, I walk between 1.5-2 miles almost every day and rarely have any pain. I can even do yoga poses like child's pose as I'm gaining flexibility back.
    - I am out enjoying life more. I have always loved hike, but even when my weight wasn't as high I had a hard time as I was out of shape. Now, I hike most weekends, going 10+ miles and 2K elevation gain without a problem. Last weekend, at the top of a pretty steep hill my heart rate was still below 100! As the world reopens I feel more comfortable going to restaurant's (chairs are so much more comfortable!) and I'm sure other activities will be easier too.
    - I started a new job in April, and hadn't met anyone in person. We had lunch the other day and I wasn't self conscious and worried that they'd be judging me for my weight.
    - I can fit into cute and stylish clothes. I'm still figuring out what works on my new body, but I can go into little shops and they actually have things that fit! I'm generally a S top and 8-10 in bottoms.
I do have some work to do to clean up my diet. I've slipped a little in the last couple of months and need to get back to eating healthier before it starts impacting my progress. My goal is to not have to hyper focus on food and do regular meal planning with healthy foods and just eat until I am full. Hopefully, coupled with exercise that will help me maintain.
    Thanks for letting me share.
    Lori

Yes, for many of us food can taste terrible & even things we used to love taste disgusting. It’s because our taste buds & sometimes our sense of smell changes & becomes extra sensitive after surgery. This will pass. Plus your tummy can be pretty fussy for a while. A food that’s disgusting or makes you unwell this week maybe more palatable in a week or two so don’t give up.
I wasn’t hungry or interested in eating either. It’s a result of the surgery & the hunger hormone producing area of your tummy being removed. But I knew I had to eat. I knew I had to work at getting my Protein in otherwise I’d compromise my healing & my health. My food rotation was not very wide the first couple of months. I slowly tried new foods to see how I would tolerate them.
On soft foods your food should still be a bit sloppy. If it’s too dry the food could feel like it’s stuck &/or cause discomfort. Slow cooked casseroles, stews, etc. are perfect. I ate a lot of mince slow cooked with Tomato, celery, onion. I also made Soups with finely diced meats & vegetables - let them simmer for ages. I also ate rolled oats, scrambled eggs, yoghurt poached fish. Try tinned salmon or tuna, Beans, add herbs & spices. If you want salty try adding extra salt to what you’re eating. If you want sweet try some apple purée. Some people struggle with beef or chicken to begin so take them slowly.
Discovering why you eat is extremely important to your success. As is making changes to what you eat. It won’t be easy to work out how to manage your cravings & not succumb to them. Succumbing to them lead us to being overweight in the first place. As did eating the way we did. This is the having to do the head work we all talk about. It’s not easy. There’s not an quick solution. Those cravings will always be there. Many try therapy to help identify what’s driving the cravings & to develop strategies to support them to manage them.
It does all get easier but just not overnight. There’s a lot of work ahead but it’s so worth it.
    Good luck.

They seem to be concerned in a not helpful way. I would give them some grace and the next time you see them assure them there have been multiple discussion with your surgeon on it. I was very open from the start with everyone. I got lots of questions and actually a lot of interested people. It’s surprising how many people have been thinking about it. One of my co-workers is out for surgery right now.
