Is the second time around ever more successful and why?
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So I don’t think phentermine is working perfectly for me. It doesn’t give me energy at all. I actually took a nap yesterday on it and I am doubting its power to control cravings. I have to admit I am celebrating a belated bday because my husband was in hospital during mine and I have had two bday lunches where I was able to skip the bread and substitute salad with my protein so that’s better but I am still hungry at night which is my biggest problem I think. I am supposed to try this for a month and check back in but I see my family dr today who has also been trying to help with my weight so I am hoping maybe she can adjust the dose at least today while I am there. Fingers crossed that one of these meds helps me. -

Okay I had a sleeve 3/9/2021 and lose a pretty good chunk of weight but since I have gained it all back. My doctors have tested me for many things hoping to find answers to why I am so hungry and I am still waiting on a couple more results but it is looking more and more like I just failed. I am meeting with the bariatric doctor again tomorrow to see if they think revision is an option for me (assuming the rest of those tests come back fine as well). My question is, for those of you who revised because of weigh gain, did it work the second time around and if so what changed? What did you do different?! -
I have to admit I have seen many people mention it on here but had never tried it till today. I failed with the sleeve and I’m trying other things before I go the revision route. The NP said to try tea, especially when I know it hasn’t been long since I have eaten and surprisingly I think it worked.

Tea actually does satisfy some cravings

I was able to get two sample pack of caffeine free ones that are pretty good. I am allowed caffeine so I wasn’t even paying attention to that but it turned out they were. -

I must be on a really low dose cause I don’t even feel more energy. It’s 15mg. Haven’t been hungry though. Had to make myself eat something for lunch so maybe it’s gonna work. Not sure about night time. That’s when I tend to snack and I feel like it will wear off by then so we shall see. -
Post-op Forgetfulness?

I agree with asking your doctor for some documentation that you have been under his care and maybe ask for some accommodations. Your doctor should know what to do. -

Well Publix had bogo on the celestial teas today so I got two sample packs. So far I’ve tried the wild berry zinger and the raspberry zinger and they are both good. I think the second box are the more relaxing type teas they include one called sleepytime and camomile which I am pretty sure is calming. -
Predicting a (bridesmaid) dress size
ShoppGirl replied to smc124's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would ask the tailor how many sizes too big it could be and still be altered to fit properly and go from there. Possibly getting a couple sizes like you mentioned. -
Bipolar and gastric bypass
ShoppGirl replied to A-Rae's topic in Weight Loss Medications & Popular Diets
Like I mentioned before since hanging around here post sleeve I have seen a lot of people with bipolar who had bypass and they were just fine but now that I am possibly facing a revision to bypass I am looking to hear even more peoples experience. Especially if anyone has experience with vraylar post bypass. -
I had sleeve 3/9/2021 and have regained almost all the weight. I met with the NP at the surgeons office yesterday to inquire about revision and she suggested phentermine. I have to admit I’m not even in a hurry to pick it up from pharmacy cause I don’t have too much faith it’s gonna work for me. I am glad to see some success stories here and hope that I am one of them.

She didn’t really say how long she wants me to try the phentermine but she does want to see me back in a month. She said there are a couple more meds to try so maybe she was speaking of those you mentioned if this one doesn’t work. I am just a little worried I will lose just enough to disqualify me weight wise for revision and not be able to lose anymore. BUT, I am on a few meds that are pretty important and she said because of that she would like to see me try everything before I decided on revision and that made sense to me. I’m just a little curious why they didn’t have me try all this before the first surgery to be honest other than they know it won’t work. Lol -

Congratulations on your loss and thanks for sharing your experience this far. I met with the NP yesterday and she said she would really like to see me try weight managements before I commit to revision so she prescribed me phentermine. I know I have tried it in the past but honestly can’t remember how I did on it (seems like it if was an amazing loss I would remember though). I have a feeling I will end up converting as you did. Although I really hope it’s not true about losing less cause I never lost all my weight with the sleeve. -
Affordable personal training

If you live in a larger town you could take advantage of the free trial and lower cost trainer sessions at each gym. Eventually you will know what to do on your own. -

Is it just me or does that sound like one of those when we first met stories that people tell their grandchildren one day. -
I didn’t have any big pills but I was given the pills to swallow while the next day after sleeve surgery and didn’t have any issues.

Olive oil dispense and measure bottle
ShoppGirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone tried one of these? I’m thinking of using it for salad dressing but wonder if the creamy ones would be too thick?? It has the tablespoon measurements on it which would be great to measure out a serving if it works. I found them on Amazon. They are made for oil and vinegar but I want to use it for my yogurt ranch. I may get one just for thanksgiving day though cause my husband uses olive oil for the Turkey and I want him to see just how much he uses. Lol edited to add link Superior Glass Oil and Vinegar Dispenser,Measuring Oil Pourer for Kitchen,Wide Opening for Easy Refill and Cleaning, Clear Glass Oil Bottle with Scale,8.5 Oz https://a.co/d/fpL2fcS -
I dread going back to my Job after surgery

Yea if you can find something else it would certainly be easier not being around food all the time I’m sure. -

Are you back to work yet? How are you managing?? -
Hi Hannah and welcome. So glad to hear how you are basically maintaining your loss. Many do gain a bit of Bounce back weight. Like 10-20 pounds. I have heard it’s usually around year two or three. Maybe your bounce back is just delayed a bit??

So how did this work out? I’m assuming that you had your surgery by now. Did you get your machine? Do you still need it post surgery?? -
Unsuccessful revision from sleeve to bypass due to hernia mesh

I am so sorry to hear that. I can only imagine what a letdown that must’ve been. Wishing you a speedy recovery and a swift new surgery date with an awesome plan to tackle all of your issues. -
Sudden onset of painful nausea
ShoppGirl replied to cloudwhisper's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Tomatoes are definitely an issue for many people. You said the day it started you had tomatoes soup but you had this issue two nights. Did you have the soup the second day as well? Or anything else new?? If not I’m thinking it’s unlikely that it’s food related and maybe you should make another call to update the doctor that you had it what I’m guessing was well over 24 hours after you ate the new food. I never had the foamies but I do not think they last that long. Perhaps others can chime in on that. How are you feeling now? -
A little drink?
ShoppGirl replied to ohsnapitsjonny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The more I think about it this may be done of those times where you have to set boundaries with your friends. I’d like to think they will enjoy your company Regardless they just think YOU will no have as much fun if you are left out. I have learned though that you can have just as much fun drinking non alcohol drink. I like iced coffee if you are allowed caffeine (black with milk and Splenda). If you give in and have even one drink though this time they may bug you that much more to have food you don’t want down the road. If you stand your ground this time though, they may not try to get you to have just one slice of cake at the next get together. If that makes any sense. Only you know your friends but it’s something to consider. -
A little drink?
ShoppGirl replied to ohsnapitsjonny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Alcohol is very weird for me post surgery. I never seem to feel the buzzed feeling I used to. I like the taste of my rum and crystal light (I used to drink rum and diet or Coke Zero) I assume it’s because of the sugar it tastes good but otherwise it really is a waste of calories for me. Most people claim they get intoxicated way faster and it seems to go away way faster. If you do decide to drink out with friends I wouldn’t do that until you test out the exact same thing at home first with the same exact mixer and everything to make sure it doesn’t physically make you sick, be sure you have a designated driver since your body processes alcohol differently now and be sure you plan ahead what healthy snacks you will eat when your inhibitions go down if your like me and you want to eat.
