    Gastric bypass and dental cleaning

OP, Did you ever figure out what was going on? Was it the flu or something? Did it go away quickly?? It could be helpful for others in the future to hear about your experience and I have to admit I am super curious. 😉

    Roller Coasters Post Op

It’s been a year and a half so I can’t remember for certain but I’m 99% sure it was less than two and a half months before I was cleared for strenuous exercise. I’m hoping someone who had their surgery more recently will weigh in and let you know for sure.

    Found a new protein drink

Hummm. It’s always cool to find new protein options. Thanks for sharing. I think I may need to readjust my color settings though if I am the only one thinking about mouthwash. lol 😂

I take the pro care health with 45 mg iron as well. I also Take two doses of calcium a day separate from the multi vitamin for better absorption. So far at over a year and a half out my labs have been excellent

    Dr. Jeffry Romero Manzano

I assume they are in the same practice? I’m sure if the other doctor is very good and well known they would not work with another doctor who wasn’t also very good. Reputation is everything for an established doctor and they wouldn’t risk their good one for someone who wasn’t just as good or promising as them. So your research though and if you don’t feel comfortable change your date. Even if you have to wait a while to have your surgery. You need to trust your doctor.

    Roller Coasters Post Op

I would definitely still ask your surgeon but I’m thinking they are going to say you are fine. I was only given restrictions in terms of lifting and then exercise but I was cleared for everything before ten weeks. Of course I had no reason to ask about roller coasters so better to ask just to be certain.

    Post Op Bra Size

I was wondering about those bra extenders. Purchasing an even smaller band size than you need and using an extender knowing that you will most likely be able to get rid of the extender and wear it for another little while still? Unless you still go down in cup size but eventually you stop losing in the cup.

    Ring Size?!

I say why wait until 50 years. Renew your vows now and get the wedding band at least. You can still do a fancy new engagement type or anniversary ring for your 50th to complement it.

    Nerves

Personally I wasn’t worried too much about the surgery in terms of anything going wrong. I was most worried about the surgery not working for me. In other words I wouldn’t lose anything at all or I would lose some but gain it all back.
  10. I weighed myself everyday but I only logged it once a week. That way when I looked back at my log it was a more obvious downward trend. Something about not logging it helped but if the fluctuations still get to you, consider only getting on the scale once a week.

    Puréed Phase Recipes

It’s not my recipe but the ricotta bake was my fave during the purée phase. https://bariatricbits.com/single-serve-baked-ricotta/
  12. I googled it because I didn’t know either. The term is just often used by men speaking about their pestering wives. To the point that the “nagging wife” has become a stereotype.
  13. I have heard of people having to take meds post surgery but I was under the impression that they were not able to stick to the plan 100% because they were still experiencing hunger. You say you are sticking to your plan though so I guess it would depend on how the medication works. If the medication only works by suppressing your appetite then I’m not sure it will do much more than the surgery has already done for you but some of those meds do also speed up your metabolism and or give you energy from what I understand. That could help you lose maybe??
  14. I was a lower BMI to start but only because I had basically been on a never ending diet for years. Just because of the portions of what I ate (even when it was nutritious food) I was gaining like ten pounds a year). Well my knees were starting to hurt when I exercised and I just knew that within a year or two when I weighed even more it was going to hurt that much more and make it impossible to exercise making me gain even more weight. I could see it snowballing and I decided to do something before it got out of control.

    No medical support

I would be on with the director of the hospital telling them that you were not treated before you were released. I would ask them if there is something they did not tell you because when you got there they agreed that you needed fluids to the point they stuck a needle into your arm yet at some point They randomly decided you didn’t even need to complete a whole bag and basically kicked you out still feeling sick. At the very least you should not have to pay for that visit. Ideally they can get you in for fluids from a professional doctor!! Hopefully, they take a closer look at that doctor and his treatment of people. Your pain contract shouldn’t have ANY bearing on your asking for fluids?? i would try contacting that team again and tell them that in your area the process must be different and you are having a hard time getting fluids. Maybe they can make a call and arrange it.

    Weight loss and menopause

Ooh I don’t even want to think about this. I know if it causes weight gain in some it will cause it ten fold for me (like everything else does). I know that my mom stayed on birth control pills for years past the end of her cycle. I’m pretty sure it was to help with the symptoms of menopause. I wonder if it helps control menopause associated weight gain??

    Just starting my journey!

The bypass is an excellent surgery. To be honest that was my first choice but I have bipolar disorder and a lot of the meds don’t absorb as well post bypass so with all other things being equal I went with the sleeve because of that. What I did was start a list of questions in the notepad of my phone because I would think of things at the most random times that I wanted to ask them. Some of your questions you can ask here and we can answer but some of them will be more specific to your team.

    Medications

Ooh good call. And if your normal pharmacy can’t do it a compounding pharmacy can I had to do this for my dog. I’m not sure if the stuff they use for humans is sugar free though that they mix it with. That could be an issue.
  20. The only problem with that is the the consequences could be SO much worse than just a little pain. It’s can be pretty difficult as a loved one to sit back and watch someone seriously injure themselves without at least trying to help. Hopefully he will be reasonable as long as it’s presented as genuine concern though. I know with my husband it’s all about the delivery.
  21. I would at least tell him that at this point it isn’t about just diet or losing weight. The staged return to eating is to keep his healing tummy safe. He can actually hurt himself pretty seriously by progressing too quickly through these stages. I know that nagging a man doesn’t usually help but maybe just tell him calmly that for right now it’s actually the most important that he follows the rules so he doesn’t hurt himself and let him decide what to do. At least you will know you tried which I know from experience is all you really can do with a grown man. If his dr said soft foods are okay then eggs should be fine but bacon probably isn’t the best idea at this point. Also they cut a lot of nerves and stuff during surgery so he may not feel full like he should this early out so he really should consider measuring his food for a while.

    Just starting my journey!

I had to do 6 visits of medically managed weight loss which took 5 months after my initial consultation so my first appt to surgery was just about 6 months. Not everyone is required to do that though and some require only 3 months.
  23. Try adding a soluble fiber to your diet if your team agrees with it. I found the generic for benefiber at Walmart. I used milk of magnesia once immediately post surgery so I would have a movement, then from the next morning on, I mixed a spoonful of the fiber in a glass of crystal light and I never had any more issues with constipation. I eventually weaned myself off of it once I got back to a more normal portion size but some people have to stay on something preventative forever.

    Weight loss Surgery

You may be surprised. Exercise is very important for your health and helps to keep weight off but it does only contribute a small amount to weight loss from what I have been told. If you have gone a while and truly aren’t losing anything you may have to cut back on calories a bit but I would think you may just lose a little slower. I guess the best way to figure out how your body responds is just to keep logging and if you aren’t losing try cutting back 100 calories or so and see if that helps get the scale moving again. You may want to consider some seated exercises you can do for your upper body in the meantime just to keep yourself In the habit as well.
  25. It could just be your PCOS, unfortunately. I just read another post of someone who had unexplained weight gain with it the other day. Try not to feel defeated or give up though. Even if you didn’t lose another pound which hopefully you will you are still better off than you were before surgery. Or at least that’s what I try to tell myself (I have bipolar and it’s similarly difficult for me to lose it all and keep it off because of the meds and depression). I would keep asking the drs and nutritionist for advice and try what they are suggesting (hopefully something does work for you) but don’t be too hard on yourself if it doesn’t. I know that for me that if I hadn’t done surgery a year and a half ago I would probably be even heavier now than I was before I started all this (I was gaining about ten pounds a year) so the fact that I am somewhat smaller instead of even bigger is certainly better than nothing. I may not fit into my skinny jeans but at least my knees don’t hurt when I exercise like they were beginning to pre surgery. Trust me, I know it doesn’t seem fair and it gets to me some days too but I just try my best to maintain what I have lost because I know that every pound I can keep off is better for my health. You are currently down 57 pounds!! That is definitely something you should be proud of and if I were you I would celebrate that loss. Don’t just give up on losing the rest by any means, but at the same time don’t be too hard on yourself either. Our bodies and circumstances are all different. Try to focus on the non scale victories that I’m sure you have already seen with a 57 pound loss when it starts to get you down.
