  1. Has anyone had fluid or seepage from their incision (port area, I think). I'm 2 days post-op and this just started this morning (Wed, 7/30).
  2. So, where everyone has the NORMAL concerns about preop diets and surviving the whole ordeal. My question is "can I wear makeup during surgery"? Yes . . . I'm THAT shallow!!!!

    Makeup During Procedure?

he-he!! No makeup. Nurse told me they tape our eyes shut when we go to sleep. OH!! One other thing . . . I did not know that we get a shot of heprin in the belly before surgery while you wait. Keeps blood clots away. But I don't remember hearing or reading about that. No pain with that as long as it's in the belly.

    Makeup During Procedure?

Thanks for the replies! I did go without makeup, but I did leave my fake nails on (French manicure). The said OK to nail polish on my toes (pretty pink) and my acrylic nails (they're french style - look natural). Everything went great! Just trying to get in all those fluids and protein shakes. I have an ON-Q catheter that I came home with plugged into my port. Helps manage the port pain pretty good.
  5. Have CIGNA as well and getting banded tomorrow. The process was very smooth for me. After it was submitted, I received a phone call at work from a CIGNA RN about 3 weeks later who asked me questions, and at the end of the conversation she stated that she could tell that I was well prepared for the journey ahead of me and that I was approved! They will also call from time to time after the procedure to check on your progress (so she said).

    Hello from texas!

Hello, also from Texas!! (Or should we say HOWDY? Maybe not!) Also on preop diet of 5 optifast shakes per day (Dr. David Kim, Ft Worth). Anyway, yes every goofy thought has crossed my mind. We're going to feel so silly when this is over. My biggest fear is nausea following the surgery. First thing I usually do is open my eyes and throw up when I wake up from surgeries of the past. They said I would get a patch or something for that. Hmmmm. So, I guess we all feel anxiety about one thing or another. OH! My surgery is on the 28th of this month. Hang in there and so will I

    Pre-op diet help!!!

Ohhh - me too! I'm on day 6 of 14 of Optifast shakes. I really like them, in fact actually look forward to my next shake. Guess I'm crazy. But I always loved choc milk, slim fast, instant breakfast drinks anyway. I don't use much water - love them thick, only about 5 ozs. I drink one about 7:30, then 11, then 3, then 6:30, then right before bed to fill my tummy. I feel like a newborn baby on formula! My mother made me some homemade chicken broth (YUK) and beef broth (YUMMM). I think I must be addicted to beef, so the beef broth actually helps with those cravings. But homemade is best - she boiled stew meat, carrots, onions & canned tomatoes and seasoned it then strained for me. She & my husband ate the stew and left me the broth. BTW: My husband came home the other night and started to saute' onions in a pan for something and I jumped all over him for the food smells in the house. Now he just has a sandwich for dinner and there's peace once more! We can and will do this.

    Liver Shrink Diet

Just ending day two of "Optifast" liquid diet. Nothing but 5 shakes per day plus any other non carbonated diet liquid, water, jello, popcycle or broth for 2 weeks. Optifast keeps me satisfied for about 2 hours tops. I hear once you get past the 3rd day on a total liquid diet it's smoother sailing. Surgery is on 7-28 (Monday). Don't want my fat liver to pop up and scare my surgeon!!!
