    Metformin After Surgery

I was told to continue taking it, but I just couldn’t stomach it after surgery. The pills are so big and crushing them didn’t help me take them, so I quit taking them. My T2 wasn’t severe, I was just diagnosed during the preop testing and while my fasting was high, my A1C was right on the line. When I went to my 2 week appointment I told my surgeon I quit taking it and he said that was fine, I probably didn’t have it anymore. I have tested a couple times in the morning just to make sure and both times my BG has been around 80. If I were you, I’d test in the morning and maybe again 2 hours after eating lunch and see if you stay in a non-diabetic range.

    My stats 2 months PostOp

I’m also 2 months out and have lost 34lbs, so we’re pretty close there. As for calories, I’m still around 600 a day. I don’t know where I should be, I wasn’t given limits on calories/carbs, just told to make sure I was getting protein (60-70g), veg (2 spoons with every meal), maybe a fruit, and water (1.5 liters) in each day.
  3. If I’m hungry, I’ll usually eat a ham and cheese roll up.
  4. Proffee: 2 Nespresso (one caf, one decaf), 2 ounces Fairlife vanilla, 1 scoop Isopure zero unflavored, 1 scoop vital proteins collagen. I also have a probiotic and my first calcium of the day.

    Caloric intake

We had surgery the same day and I'm getting about 420 calories a day. . .each day it's gone up a little. I am hitting my protein and water goals, so I'm not too worried. My dietician didn't give me a calorie range, just a list of foods I could eat.

    February 2021 Sleeve Surgery

Had my surgery on the 23rd. Everything went well. First 24 hours were a bit rough, but now I'm doing okay. Walking 2-3km everyday since Thursday, getting most of my water and protein in. Still sleeping in a recliner, but hoping in the next couple days to move back to my bed. On strained thin liquid diet for 10 days, then smoothie consistency liquids for 10 more days, then purees for the next 10. Hate every protein shake I've tried, so I've been putting unflavored protein in my soups, broths, yogurts and that's been okay. Think I really hit ketosis today because my breath is awful and the taste in my mouth is so, so bad even right after brushing my teeth. Oh, weighed myself this morning for the first time and I'm down 13.8lbs from surgery--YAY!

    NO pre-op Liquid Diet...Anyone else?

It went well. I'm home recovering now and doing pretty well. Not getting in all my water or protein yet, but working on it and getting a bit more in everyday. I have a liquid diet for 20 days which is already getting old and I'm only on day 6!

    NO pre-op Liquid Diet...Anyone else?

No pre-op diet at all. Doc said just to stop eating at midnight the night before my vsg surgery. He said his hospital has found doing a pre-op diet isn’t necessary and somewhat barbaric (his words). They used to do them and ended up stopping. I have surgery on Feb 23 and am just trying to get in more water, walking more, and will drink 1-2 electrolyte drinks the day before since my veins are tiny and they often have to poke me 3 times before being able to place an IV.

    February 2021 Sleeve Surgery

Hi 😊 Got my date yesterday, Feb 23. No preop diet (was totally shocked—doc said he’s found they aren’t necessary and feels they’re a bit barbaric 😳) just nothing to eat after midnight before surgery. One overnight in the hospital. Then, it’s full liquids after for 10 days.
