Just here to let you know that I took some advice. I was craving Pasta so badly. A few of you told me to try Chickpea Pasta. I was very unsure about it. I bought some, and it was in my cabinet for a couple of weeks. I kept saying that I would try it the next day for dinner, but then I would talk myself out of it. LOL
Well, I finally bit the bullet last night. I made chicken sausage, with peppers, and onions, then put it into low sugar spaghetti sauce. Boiled up some of the "pasta", and it was absolutely delicious! It was a little bit harder than regular pasta, but it took the craving away. Now I can experiment with it some more.
I love this site because a few of you have given me some great ideas to try. Thank You, and keep them coming. ☺️

So I had my post op appointment and told my surgeon every complication I was having and she said sounds like something went wrong and the only way to fix it is to have another surgery. She instructed me to go back to the hospital. I told her I will in the am once I dropped my bf off at the airport( he has no one else. On my way home I started having horrible shoulder bed could barley walk upright it’s just so much I’ve been in bed since I got home.

I am by no means a wine connoisseur. I have no idea what they mean when they say full/medium-bodied with hints of oak, lavender, pine, chocolate, berry or whatever. I mean, what the heck is a floral note??? I only know sweet/not sweet or metallic/not metallic (if that's even a thing), LOL.
With that said, I prefer NOT sweet and NOT metallic. I also prefer red hands down over white or rose, AND I like my red wine COLD (yes, I realize this is sacrilege for most, but whatevs, I like what I like dammit). I don't mind trying out new wines, so will give those a try if I can find them (thanks for tip!)...though the boys in the house don't mind when I don't like a particular wine cuz it just means more for them, LOL.
Here is the one that is a household favourite that we buy by the caseload. And it doesn't hurt that its super inexpensive compared to similarly rated reds.
And since I was taking a pic inside my fridge, I'm including some fridge-contents porn for those who like to peek into other people's fridges, LOL.

@OAGBPal I appreciate the humor in your response! I had a good laugh, which cheered me up. My only concerns are that I want to be as successful as possible because I've worked really hard to get here, so I want to follow my surgeon's plan as well as I can. Do I think a single cup of coffee will derail my progress and approval? No, but I am trying to make lifestyle changes and it is so hard.
@chiquitatummy Thank you for your response, that does make a lot of sense now that you say it.
Overall, I guess I will try a cup of hot herbal tea and see if that tricks my brain 😂

chiquitatummy got a reaction from Jnfinney in Caffeine on Pre-op Diet
I have a pretty conservative program, but they also have a very high success rate so I'm not complaining too much - I'm only human so some complaining does happen, lol. My programs requirements include no caffeine for at least a month before surgery and then for at least another 4 months after surgery and they really encourage folks to just give up caffeine altogether.
The reasoning my Dr. and nutritionist gave is that caffeine is highly acidic and it can irritate your healing tummy, potentially cause ulcers, and just make it harder for other foods to settle well. I think having people go off caffeine pre-op also relates to not wanting patients to be going through caffeine withdrawals after surgery and discouraging empty calories since most people add goodies to their coffee. I know when I went off the bean I felt horrible (headaches every day and soooo cranky) for over a week and am really glad I didn't have to deal with that while also recovering from surgery. For tired mornings sipping Water helps a little, but not gonna lie - nothing replaces the jolt of caffeine.
I don't know that I will stay off the bean forever, but it's kind of nice not to feel dependent on it. We'll see what I think in 6 months; I may be back to my morning coffee.☕

chiquitatummy reacted to JMJames92 in What are your favorite full liquid and pureed stage recipes?
Congratulations on your surgery and I am glad things are going so well for you! During my liquid stage my favorite thing to eat was this red pepper and Tomato Soup that you can buy just about anywhere. It is pretty thick so I always watered it down to be on the safe side. I would say it was about 50/50 Water and Soup.
As for pureed recipes...the absolute best thing for this stage (in my opinion) is this vanilla egg custard. It is DELICIOUS! I basically survived on just that during my pureed stage. Well not really but I did eat it quite often in that time period...and even after I left the pureed stage. Also baby food is really easy and good - I recommend the banana! A weird one that I did when I was really craving pizza was taking low carb tortillas, about a quarter or so of one, and some pizza sauce, cheese, and pepperonis and I put them in a magic bullet blender thing (a food processor would probably work better). This created a very weirdly textured pizzaish puree that actually tasted surprisingly good. I imagine some people wouldn't be able to get past the texture/flavor combo on this one though XD.
I hope some of my suggestions help you a little bit . I wish you the best of luck in your continued weight loss journey!

chiquitatummy reacted to Stina537 in No Support from Husband
I am 36 and going through the pre-operation approval phase. Everything has been delayed due to covid. But I am almost at the point of scheduling surgery. I have been diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea and just received my cpap machine. My husband doesn't support my decision because he feels I should have taken my weight issues more serious when I was younger or started dating him and just lose weight naturally. He is from a different culture and very rude about this. It hurts because he will say mean things, like he doesn't know why he married a fat woman and that doesn't help when this is a very emotional process. I am doing this for me and so that I can live a better life and be there for my daughter. When he saw the cpap machine he became so rude and disgusted by the fact that I have to use this machine. I don't care what he thinks or says because I will divorce him if this continues. But it hurts for him to be so mean when I am trying to do something to better myself.

Hi all had my surgery yesterday and I must say I am feeling pretty good. The gas pain is not as bad as I thought and other pain in pretty tolerable. I am so happy it is done and over with now I’m on the road to recovery. I am having a problem with peeing, they took the catheter out and want me to do it on my own but I can’t yet. Hopefully I will before I get discharged tomorrow. I’ve been sipping on Water and Jello so I hope that will help.

chiquitatummy got a reaction from SunnyinSC in Heartburn Questions
I'm close to your height and started out around the same weight (5' 2" HW of 271) and had some heartburn before I started my program. My symptoms were milder than yours (lots of discomfort after eating, able to tough it out without tums, but miserable for hours after eating). I found that when I lost some weight pre-surgery it mostly went away. May have been self-inflicted pain from my habit of eating too much and too fast.
I did have an endoscopy and menonotry done which was enough information to make my Dr. comfortable with VSG for me. He waved the 24 hour PH study for me, but that is normally part of tests my program does to ensure someone with GERD symptoms is a VSG candidate. Turned out that while I had a little bit of stretching in my esophageal sphincter everything looked great and I was given the green light for VSG. I'm 1 week out from surgery now and feeling really good. Part of my program's protocol includes putting VSG patients on omeprazole for the first few months which is supposed to help tame the stomach acid while your healing and eating very little. You might ask if this is something that your program does.
All that said, I really understand hesitating. The prospect of GERD misery getting worse with surgery is scary. My understanding from my program is that the results of the menometry, PH study, and endoscopy are pretty reliable in determining if someone is not a good VSG candidate because of current GERD, but that there is also a chance that anyone could develop GERD with VSG, so there is some gamble for everyone. Weighting the % risk of this vs. that was one of the hardest parts of making my surgery decision. It took me 2.5 years from beginning to consider the option of WLS to signing the papers to confirm that I made the decision. I am only a week out, but so far I am really glad I did it and none of my worst fears have happened.
    Good luck!

    GIRL YES.
My surgery was on 2/23 and I cannot believe how exhausted I have been. Overall I feel way better than I thought I would and haven't had issues with getting Protein or Water in so it's not that. I think it must just be the combo of my body needing to heal and being on such low calories.
Today was the first day I felt like I could actually take a walk around the block. I was so winded when I got back and needed a nap right away. I'm also really exhausted after I "eat a meal". I conk out for 30-45 minutes as soon as I am done with my 3 ounces of Protein Shake.

ditto on Fairlife and GENEPRO. I also found that premier hasn't set as well with me post surgery, but Fairlife has been easy to get down and Genepro is easy to mix into anything (just keep the temp below 140) to bring the Protein up.
I also like the BariatricPal cream of chicken and cream of mushroom Soups. I doctor them up with no salt seasoning and mushroom salt (you can find it at any Asian market and it's amazing) then strain to make sure there are no bits of herb before drinking.

Yesterday at my 3-day post op check-in I hadn't pooped and the nurse suggested that I take a stool softener and milk of magnesia. I took the stool softener, but was too scared to drink the milk of magnesia (I've just barely been on the ok side of nausea) so I drank some Smooth Move tea instead. It got me moving!

Don’t forget you’re not consuming very many calories at the moment & your body is using most of them to function. Therefore your body won’t have a lot to excrete.
In saying that, it is important to work back towards healthy & regular bowel habits. I used to go every two days. If I got to a third day I would take a gentle stool softener so I would have some movement in day four.
Are you adding some soluble fibre to your shakes, broths etc.? Avoid those that swell in your tummy though.
Don’t force yourself to go. Stick to your old routine of when you used to go. Sometimes you just need to sit, relax & let gravity & nature do their thing.
Somedays I felt like my niece who had just gone through toilet training. I wondered if I needed a chart on my fridge & some gold stars. 😆
    Happy pooping.

Imagine my complete shock when February 1 I got called and they said I was getting in February 9. I’m now post bypass and I feel good for most part. Still have some problems getting enough Protein but best decision I made for my long term health. Good luck every one❤️

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's reasonable to be disappointed and hurt by the reaction and words you describe. People are full of opinions, but no one knows your health or what it has been like to be in your shoes better than you.
I used a lot of my time with a pre-op therapist to untangle and work through the way others perceive WLS and may judge me for it. I have been surprised how helpful working with a therapist has been on the relationship side of WLS. One of the conclusions I have come to is that I don't owe anyone an explanation and I don't have to take on making them more comfortable with the idea of me having WLS. Another thing that came out of it is I have decided (at least for now) to have a very small circle of people that know I am having this surgery. Everything I have to work with to be on this path feels like a lot already and hearing the input and opinions of other people (especially when they are not educated in WLS) just feels like more than I want to take on at the moment.
    Sending you good thoughts!
