I had VSG and I was fairly strict till I reached my goal, I focused on hitting my Protein goal and drinking 2+L Water a day, I didn’t really eat bread often as it filled me too much and I steered away from too many of my ‘trigger’ foods which were candy, ice cream etc. tried to have two serves of fruit a day and eat as healthy as I could 🙂

    This 100%. End of story.
@strawberryga Sorry you had such a tough road. To me it sounds like the real issue was not the surgery, but frankly that you were/are not mentally ready to move away from your poor eating habits and find a healthier path.
I might suggest therapy to address why you felt the need to eat things you know you should not be eating. Expecting WLS to fix the space between your ears will never work.
Sorry for the bluntness, but it feels to me like you need some tough love at this point. I do hope you find the help you need.

If I’m working it out correctly I’ve lost 103% of my excess weight. Starting weight was 266lbs, goal was 147lbs and I’m weighing around 145lbs.

As mentioned already follow your docs advice 100%. Become a disciplined person and log your food, start working out even if it’s just walking, speak with a psychologist and change your lifestyle - this is the key to success x

Seek out a counselor and dietitian. They can help you. Log everything. Stick to the plan and it will work.

@goodmanje, if you're just wanting to vent because you're angry and upset, that's fine. We've all been there at some time or other in our lives. But if you are interested in help with troubleshooting what's going on, you'll have to engage with us and provide more specific information. Like post an example of what you eat on an average day. And you have to be willing to change - for instance, you can't just say "I'm not a disciplined person". Losing weight requires discipline with or without surgery. There are lots of food tracking apps out there and you may not be able to figure this out without making use of one of them.

Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of my sleeve surgery. I am so glad I did this, and wish I'd done it years ago! It hasn't been without struggles, and I had hiatal hernia surgery in June 2021 because my sleeve had "slipped" up into my chest cavity. Still... all is good, I am SO MUCH BETTER since having the hernia repair, and I have kept all my weight off. I am just happy, and want to say to those with doubts... YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Not sure where you got 900 per day for eternitiy - We're all different and will have different requirements. Yes, there are standards, but I would question ANY physician or nutritionist who made that sort of statement.
Looking at your surgery date - Is this your first stall? If so, it could really be as simple as your body levelling out and you'll pick back up shortly.

When was your surgery? I read recently that sleeve patients should max at 900 calories for the rest of their life. I do know we are to drink then wait 30 min., eat until full but don't go over a cup, drink after 30 min., eat again 2 hrs or so later if getting hungry. I need to follow those rules myself. I would wait until I'm full then stop then work on finishing my plate when I had room again. That's not 2 hrs. My Dr has me at 60g of Protein a day, since Day 1 of my surgery. We both need to stick to the rules. Our stomach can't handle more than a cup of anything inside it.

From what I have read on this forum, this is def not the norm.
As a sleeve patient myself (3 years post op) I average 1800-2000 calories a day, and have been maintaining my current weight for over 2 years (and I'm 5'2", 115 lbs)
Everyone will have different maintenance calories depending on a whole slew of factors. Each person needs to figure out what that is for their own individual set of circumstances.

I am glad that it seems like it is getting better. I did find a paper talking about this kind of thing happening after bariatric surgery, so apparently you are NOT alone : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32558689/

It actually seems like a fairly common problem, which I wish I had realized before I ever had surgery.

Hi there! I’m almost 8 months PO and am still being monitored. It has gotten a little better but not completely. I am learning to deal with it though I think 🙈

Like @catwoman7, I don’t think it is traditional dumping. I do wonder if it’s linked to your sugar levels too especially as it occurs in the morning.
I have random occurrences of hypoglycaemia & it always occurs sometime in the morning. I experience general weakness in my tummy & bowels, cold sweats, jelly legs, nose runs, etc. Haven’t noticed a racing heart though. I find it passes quickly - like 10 minutes or so. Drinking something (water, tea, etc.) &/or eating a little fruit helps a lot. I often keep a Protein Bar in my bag when I go out just in case. My last attack was about 3 weeks ago after a 2km bush walk up a mountain. The time before was about 3 months ago when I was standing in a queue for almost an hour on a warm day. I added honey & blueberries to my rolled oats every morning to give me that little sugar hit to help offset the chance of an episode.
Definitely check with your medical team though.
I should add, I used to experience these hypoglycaemic episodes for years before my surgery usually when exercising. (I skipped a lot of meals to try to control my weight!) Coupled with my tendency to low blood pressure they weren’t fun because my vision would narrow & my ears would become blocked as well. Became a great excuse not to exercise though 😆.

dumping syndrome is pretty rare with sleeve, but it does happen to some people. However, it occurs very shortly after eating - like within an hour or so (usually less), so yours might be something else. Reactive hypoglycemia (sometimes called "late dumping") happens to some people who've had bypass - not sure about sleeve. Similar symptoms (well, the rapid heart rate, anyway - and dizziness), but that happens two or three hours after eating a bunch of sugar - but that doesn't sound like what you have, either. Not sure what's going on. Maybe you should check with your bariatric clinic and see if they know what might be causing it. I'm wondering if maybe you've developed an intolerance to certain foods or something (??).

I’m sorry you’re feeling so down! But if it helps I do think it’s totally normal! I felt the same for a while and really struggled with the mental side of things - became obsessed with food TikTok! Definitely get a therapist to help you through (I see one monthly) :)
