Hello friends! I too am having my GS on the 17th. How Weber. I’m also having a nephrectomy surgery (kidney removal) includes on the same day. I am very very anxious, a little scared but I am very adamant of the success the doctors will achieve for me to start my new healthy lifestyle. I was already in the process of my Bariatric weight loss journey when I was blind-sided with a small mass on my kidney which is cancer. So, I’ll be having my right kidney removed along with 80% of my stomach... I’d appreciate any words of encouragement & any tips on the healing process if so.. We woman are so strong but it’s also OK to feel a bit vulnerable.. that’s human nature. GOD BLESS you all. ♥️

Wishing you much success with your surgeries. I had my right kidney removed 13 years ago and had my sleeve done this past Tuesday. You are stronger than you think!!!

  2. Day 3 and still doing fine. drinking the Protein Shake my doctor wanted was a little rough - it was supposed to be 2 scoops in 8 oz of silk but it was way to thick. he switched it to 1 scoop in 8 oz lactaid so it goes down much smoother. no matter what I drink I am only allowed 1 ounce every 15 minutes, and i need to sip the one ounce to make it last the whole 15 minutes. I have a chart that i have to write down my daily Fluid intake and then text my doctor every night, he then tells me what to do for the next day. Doctor is awesome - checks in every single day and is very specific about what and when and how to do it!! hope everyone is doing well

  3. Surgery is done!!! Feel good. Worse pain was the IV’s going in (one hand and one forearm). Surgery was at 10:30 - up and walking by 2:30. Walking every hour as much as I can. Some heaviness in my chest - air from surgery - going to keep walking. No problem sipping on the Water every hour. I’m outta here tomorrow and so excited to start my best life!!!!

  4. my doctor has dictated which brand to use the whole time. I am currently on my 2 week liquid diet and using Pure Protein, but I only use 1/2 scoop in 8 oz of unsweetened Almond milk twice a day and a full scoop with 8 oz of unsweetened Almond milk two more times a day, making it 4 shakes a day. Have to drink them so they last for a 2 hour period each, and have a 1 hour timespan between each one.

Is there a reason your only having to do the liquid only for 2 days? I have my physical/final visit with Dr on Feb 1st as my surgery is Feb 9 and I have some questions. I am barely over the BMI required to have this surgery but due to a extremely large list of other health problems I am in need of this surgery. So I am scared if I do this diet for 1 entire week i will be under the needed BMI. Anyone else had or have this issue?

I had to get prior approval from my insurance before the doctor could do the surgery. My doctor sent them my starting weight from the first time I was weighed at his office. I have lost 40 pounds since then so I am glad they use the starting weight. Does your insurance company require prior approval? If not can you talk to them and ask if the surgery will be covered?

Five days into the liquid diet and the mind games are insane. My poor family.

Tomorrow (Monday) I'm meeting with anesthesia, getting blood drawn (again), and doing the big meeting with the team and finally meeting my surgeon in person. OF COURSE we're supposed to get our most significant snowstorm of the year tomorrow, too. Fingers crossed that the roads are decent.

Nine days until surgery. NINE. MORE. DAYS.

how did all you pre-op appts go? I had mine today also. The all liquid diet is very weird - having to drink 8 oz shakes over 2 hour period, then 1 hour off, then repeat for a total of 4 a day. Hope the snow wasn't too bad

Really good but it was a lot of whirlwind action. I am concerned about one thing that could be a biggie. I had to have an ECG and they detected a sinus rhythm which made for an abnormal result. Am anxiously waiting for someone to let me know what this means and if I need a cardiology visit before surgery.

I only have to do two days of liquid only which I was really surprised about. And will need another COVID test done on next Sunday. So I’m nervous but moving ahead like everything will be ok.

How are you? Your surgery is coming up fast!

I had an EKG that showed and abnormal result, they sent me for a cardiac echo and everything was fine. The tech told me a lot of people who have and abnormal EKG it is because of loose leads. hope things work out well Good Luck.

Hi, I’m also from MA. I have an appointment with my surgeon on the 26 to schedule the surgery date. I was told today that I may have to wait until March due to the Covid restrictions on elective surgeries here in MA. I’m little worried about the insurance (Tuft unify) because I’m just on the 40 BMI although I do have Diabetes. Good luck to everyone!

I had my pre-op class yesterday. Have my pre-op blood work and meeting with my surgeon Monday. Starting liquids only tomorrow. Very excited for this new chapter in my life but also very nervous. they talked about nausea in my class and that is what I am most nervous about. I hate to throw up - I have only done it 4 times in my whole life!! They said that they will be able to help if I am experience any nausea. Anyone have any info on this?
