When I spoke to my team, they said they expect about 2lbs a week and anything extra is a bonus. I was surprised that that is the goal even right after surgery!

it gets easier by about day 3 or 4. The pre-op diet is the worst part of this ordeal - you just have to white knuckle it. I was actually relieved the morning I went to the hospital. That stupid pre-op diet was OVER!!

Today is officially my 1 month post bypass, and I've only lost 16lbs. I had a gnarly 2.5 week stall, but I barely eat anything- I feel like I should be losing more. 16 lbs. in a month is nothing to sneeze at, but I thought It'd be a little more. Are my expectations too high? I've been struggling to get in enough fluids too. Just feeling a bit disheartened.

Sorry to hear you had so many issues right off the bat. I also had a RNY and gallbladder removal at the same time but I had mine Dec 17th so I am barely ahead of you. I have had no issues with the gallbladder removal. What specifically are you looking for answers on? The affect of also having no gallbladder on diet down the road, affect on weight loss, etc?

Today is my 1 year surgeversary and despite everything going on in the world, its been a pretty good year. Since 12/31/2019 I am:
    - Down 120 lbs from surgery (161.5 total)
    - in the "normal" BMI range, for the first time in my adult life
    - almost half of my weight (and will be when I reach goal)
    My favorite NSVs
    - My knees, what finally got me to have the surgery, feel SO much better
    - I'm walking most days, anywhere from 1.5-2 miles and it feels so good both physically and mentally
    - I want to be out and experiencing life again, v. being so tired at the end of the day and just wanting to sit on the couch
    - I eat completely differently from before, and I have so much more energy
    - Clothes fit so much better! From 2x-3x to a Medium in tops.
    - Standard bath towels fit

Thank you, I am definitely leaving towards the RNY now because of the Gerd but also because I am happier with a more restrictive diet with the dumping, I'm worried I'd will do the wrong thing with the sleeve!

just so you know, only about 30% of us have true dumping (it seems like some people call any time they throw up "dumping", but that's not true dumping). I've never dumped - and a lot of us haven't. If you turn out to be a dumper, you can manage it by limiting or avoiding sugar and fats (which we all should be doing regardless!).
I've been really happy with my RNY -- one of the best decisions I've ever made!

So I have pretty much been doing nothing but Meal Replacement again since November, so no fun dinner experiments to be found. Decided today I needed something after a kind of confusing cardio consult brought on my my syncope incident Sunday night. They checked my blood pressure and it was 85/52, which is obviously ridiculously low. So, they are treating me for low blood pressure (even though I have NEVER had low blood pressure any of the times it has been measured post-op). My options were to try medication that would bring my BP up...or to increase my Sodium intake.
I opted to try the dietary route (since next week I finally start post-op work with the nutritionist so I'll be moving towards normal foods) because I don't want to contend with medication side effects unless absolutely necessary. Granted, I also don't want to lose consciousness and bounce my head off the floor again either.
So tonight I made myself a Mexican pizza. Taco seasoned ground chicken, taco sauce, and some shredded Mexican 4-cheese blend on a Protein Pizza shell. I should have put the pizza shell in the air fryer for a few minutes on it's own to crisp it up a bit better, but it came out pretty yummy and I am happy with my little culinary treat.

That's awful! Hope you both are feeling better. The first day I was allowed solids, I ended up in the ER with dumping syndrome. The worst part was needing to throw up and not being able to, so not getting any relief. I felt bruised for almost a week afterwards from all the heaving. Definitely chew better, slower and watch for the first twinges of discomfort now! Hopefully it is a lesson we only need to learn once!

    Been there, done that!
I'll be 12 weeks post op on Thursday. Last Saturday I had a delicious salad with Olive Garden dressing and a crab cake. Made the exact same size salad, same ingredients, same dressing for dinner Sunday, but with a small piece of steak. That was at 5 pm. I was very uncomfortable within 15 mins of eating. Started vomiting 5 hours after I finished dinner, and every piece of salad came up exactly like it went in. Nothing had digested in that 5 hour period. Finally finished with projectile vomiting at 2 am, and could finally fall asleep.
Moral of my gross story is - never trust you new digestive system. It's a finicky balance, with each day being a new adventure.

I had my first "learning experience" yesterday. I frequently make a big pan of roasted vegetables (mini potatoes, sweet peppers, onion, mushrooms) for a side dish. I had successfully eaten small amounts prior. However, yesterday's veggies were not as well-cooked. I thought I was taking small bites and chewing well. The joke was on me! I should have stopped at the first twinge of discomfort but I thought it would pass and continued to have more. All of the sudden, I felt excruciating pain between my shoulder blades and it felt like I couldn't get a full breath. Nothing I did made me feel better and I was really getting concerned. After a few minutes, I vomited. That relieved most of the pain. Within an hour, the pain was completely gone. Vomiting showed me (literally) that I had not chewed my food as well as I thought and definitely had eaten too fast. Lesson learned and I realize I had gotten too big for my britches 🤪
