    Covid Vaccine

I had my second dose of Moderna yesterday. I’m just super tired today. I had a bit of a headache and that’s it. Just tired and a sore arm. Took the day off yesterday and today. Just resting. Totally worth it!

    OOTD

I do feel so much better! Honestly. I still have a ways to go. 59lbs is total. I lost 25lbs before surgery. The rest is after. I’m a super slow loser (2.2lbs per week is my average) but for some reason this past week it was 6, and I didn’t do much different. Not sure why that happened. My main thing I do is I take walks 3xs a week and I eat protein first always. I incorporated healthy carbs due to my energy levels being so bad (so my NUT advised more healthy carbs) and I try for 70-80 oz of water. I see a counselor to talk through stuff and that has helped a lot. Other than that, I don’t have any real different approach. I rarely eat sugar as it makes me sick with dumping syndrome. I have my 3 month check in and I should be cleared for weight training. Just hang tight! It may be slow going like mine is but you do start seeing the differences. I’m a newbie too—only 3 months. :)

One more. This dress used to be too tight after I gained so much weight back and I stopped wearing it. Also my arms used to look like hulk arms. Tried it on to go walking around a small but lovely city (socially distanced and with masks of course, just took it off for the photo) and it fit like a dream. Size 16. Also my arms aren’t looking like hulk arms anymore. This is the first pic in a long time that Im actually okay with. I lost 6lbs this week, so I’m 59lbs down. Almost to 60 gone forever. Okay, now going to sleep. Love this thread and seeing everyone’s outfits. Such inspiration and well dressed people.

    Fairlife is awesome!

Yep! Just received my 42g ultra Protein yesterday! My friend who had gastric sleeve let me know about them after surgery. I never did like Premier Protein except for with coffee. It has a weird after taste to me. Edited: I don’t know which you are drinking but my ultras have only 7g of sugar.  And the 26g of protein only have 5.

    What is your why?

Yours is almost identical to mine. My Dr said I was in perfect health except for my weight. And I could see my blood pressure slowly rising. Also I want my mom to see me at my peak, I’ve been overweight my whole adult life and I wanted her to see me healthy as she is always concerned about my health (never mean! Ever! Just heart health and things like that). Also I’m tired of paying so much extra for plus size clothes and my knees aching! Plus, of course, if you are obese your risk for complications of COVID are higher too.

My City Chic dress. I bought it 3 sizes too small and now it fits. Can’t wait to be able to actually wear it out!

    Caloric intake

On average I get about 600 calories or 700. So, that makes it a bit easier. I have a shake or a protein bar but I also drink milk and eat a lot of protein (steak, fish, chicken, beef, eggs, etc.) first. If i am at 300, I can't make those protein goals. But those days are becoming less and less. Two days ago I was super hungry after working out and for the day was at 984 calories. On 600-700, I make the protein goals. I find it harder to balance all the protein (72g) with 80oz of water. That is my true struggle.
  8. Someone said egg bites from Starbucks. I second this. I get a green tea with no sugar, egg white bites, and a fruit and protein box. Super good. It’s the only take out food I’ve tried tho.
  9. I had the moderna. I’ve noticed nothing bad. I was a month and a half out.
  10. The title says it all. Every time I eat steak (and it’s tender), I fall asleep or get so drowsy that I have to take a nap. It’s only with steak. It’s the same feeling I used to get after I ate turkey. The steak is always moist, I don’t get dizzy, or sweaty like I have when I had dumping syndrome. Does this happen to anyone else after a high protein meal? Any others feel this way after steak?

    Caloric intake

600-800 calories. I’m approaching 3 months out. Some days I struggle and get 300, but my average is 600.

Can I see some before and after pics?

I am happy to show a 2 month difference! And 52 pounds between the two!

Coronavirus: to mask or not to mask?

I wore mine always when going to appointments. In fact, I doubled before it was recommended. In the hospital, I wore it outside of my room but not inside. Luckily, the majority of the nurses and surgeon had been vaccinated which scientists are now leaning that being vacced cuts down on transmissibility. I will continue to double mask even though I had my first dose of vaccine to ensure I protect those around me.  Please wear a mask. Edited to add: Why did you ask when you were already going to talk about it being carcinogenic? As someone who studied toxicology, you’d have to eat lots of them for it to have that kind of effect. Wearing them for 30 mins at the grocery, I doubt it.

    R.I.P. Boobs

I’m two months out and 50lbs down. My boobs went from a 42/44DD to a 40D. I can’t wait to lose all my weight and have them lifted!
  15. I’m a slow loser too. Probably the slowest. I had VSG on the 24th of December. Pre-surgery I lost 23lbs. At two months yesterday, I am down 26lbs after surgery or 50lbs total at the two month mark (it may be more than that as I weigh every Sunday). I’m pretty consistent at 2-3lbs per week. Luckily, I’ve still had no Hair loss. I average about 700 calories but sometimes a little more or little less. I get frustrated with my slower losses but then the inches lost and muscle definition make me feel better. Incidentally, my surgeon doesn’t worry about weight loss until month 3 and said my weight loss should pick up the most Between month 4-8. So, who knows?
  16. So, I haven't really told many people about my surgery. A few close friends know, my mom, and my sister. I tell my mom everything so she knows, but out of my few close friends, only one was really supportive--everyone else was a bit hesitant. They all struggle with their weight, including my sister. So I don't like sharing my victories as they all start feeling bad about themselves. But today was huge and I want to share with someone other than my amazing and supportive mom. I laid down today to do sit-ups and I could actually see and feel my ribs starting to show through. I thought it was too good to be true so I videoed myself and lo and behold, I could see them quite prominently. I haven't seen them since 2015/2016. I am so excited! I can't see them standing up, obviously, but man was it a surprise laying down. Just really happy! I also tried on a shirt that was too tight before and now it is baggy. Anyway, that was my NSV. Thanks for listening!

    4 weeks post sleeve fatigue

I've posted about this various times. My one symptom after is fatigue. It was HORRIBLE at 4-5 weeks. Six weeks was okay. 7 weeks (now), it is somewhat better but I am almost at the dreaded TOM and I was exhausted today. I let my boss know about the struggles I was facing (she knew about the surgery) with fatigue and I took naps at lunch. I still do, sometimes, like today. I am hoping by 3-4 months out, I will be normal again. Coffee helps me, honestly. Until then, lunch naps it is.

4 days post op and I’M STARVING!!!

I wasn't hungry the first 10 days at all. Though, once I hit day 10, it all changed. Now, at 7 weeks out, I actually DO get hungry. I used to get gradually hungry before surgery. Now, it's either I am not hungry at all or I feel weak/nauseous from hunger and it hits all at once. Some say you can't be hungry after surgery but my surgeon said you could be. So, I guess each doctor has their own take. When you get to the pureed stage, it does get a lot better. It's even better than that when you get to the real food stage and can have good, nutritious food. Good luck! It's all worth it in the end!
  19. Thank you! I was so excited!

    Exercise After Surgery

I am wondering the same. I was sleeved on 12/24. I just started strength training today. I walk about 1.5 miles or 2 miles 4 times a week. And want to do strength training 1-3 times a week. I have 10lbs weights that I used for my arms, squats, did a plank for 30 seconds, medicine ball (12lbs) for my core, and some leg lifts. It was a lot harder now than before. Would like more input from others or any recs!

Wow! I am glad you are okay! PE are no joke. Keep us updated and wishing you a speedy recovery!

    9 days out issues

I had pain in my shoulder on day 6. Apparently, gas can stay trapped for a little bit! As far as tired, I’m 5 weeks out and still deal with lots of fatigue. I had two days where nothing sat right in my pouch (day 12-13). Definitely call your surgeon though. I had to and they made sure I was okay. Hope you start feeling better soon!

    Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass

This is a perfect response. If we are to be on this lifelong, we need to accept that we will not be able to eat the same way we did (which lead to morbid obesity in the first place).
  25. Hey everyone, I am almost at my one month and to date, I have lost 20lbs since surgery. I wanted to see what everyone else lost their first month as 20lbs doesn't seem to be a lot. I am getting my protein in, water in, vitamins done, and walking (not been cleared for lifting heavy weights yet). I know it depends on your starting weight but, I don't know, I thought I would be at 25+ now. At any rate, I am so happy to be where I am and the progress and inches lost that I see.
