FindYourFire got a reaction from Luna Girl in What am I doing wrong? Did I make a mistake?
Don't panic! I don't remember the specific day count, but it was about that time that my body did the exact same thing.. I think for about 3 weeks I didn't lose anything. Remember, for 4 weeks now you've basically had nothing to eat - (2 weeks pre-op, 2 weeks post-op liquid diet) now you're starting to add in some puree or soft foods and your body is probably screaming "HOLD ON TO EVERYTHING WE GET!! WE MIGHT HAVE TO GO 4 WEEKS WITHOUT food AGAIN!!" My weight loss has been loss > plateau > loss > plateau > loss > plateau... As of this morning I've lost 113.6lbs, and tomorrow is my 9 month surgiversary. The weight will come off, it will work

I haven’t read all the comments on your post, but I’m going to guess that most of us will say “this is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.” Its normal to question your decision, but do not let your fear hold you back from a life you deserve.

As you said everyone has their own experience, but I will tell you that I had Almost zero bad side effects. Not even gas pain after surgery. I walked 4 laps around the hospital floor as soon as I slept off the anesthesia. I did vomit one or two times within hours of the surgery, may have been a reaction to anesthesia or just my stomach going “WTF!!” But that was it. I am 8 months out and haven’t vomited one time from eating, no stomach problems, insane energy and happiness, confidence, and 106+ lbs gone.

Do the surgery. You deserve it.

Can’t believe no one has mentioned this yet... my fiancé and I often pack together in one suitcase. She would complain because I took so many clothes. “You’re taking up all the room!!” I realize now I wasn’t taking more clothes, my clothes were just so much bigger. My small-body clothes allow me to pack even more and take up less room!

I made the decision to not share that I was having surgery with anyone outside of my immediate family. I've lost a ton of weight and people are asking "WOW! How much have you lost?" I sort of want to swerve/avoid the question, but I'm not sure how to... Do I lie and minimize how much weight I've lost? Do I avoid answering all together? What do you do?

I have only had those who know I had the surgery (not many folks, and only the family I live with) ask me, and I just go ahead and tell them. I don't get out much though. If anyone else asks, I may say I dunno... that I don't weigh myself (lie). Those I definitely do NOT want to know about the surgery will get the "I am on a medically supervised diet" line, along with an "oh, I think it was about X lbs down at my last appointment."

I have no problem admitting how much I've lost, Im proud of every little evil pound I lose. Like many of you, I've told very few people outside of my family about the wls. When someone asks me how I lost the weight, I tell them the truth, well partially. I simply say a lot of hard work with assistance of a nutritionist. I think people tend to think wls is taking the easy way out. I'm here to say, and I am sure everyone of you will agree, this is the hardest thing I have ever done.

I'm a guy also so this is a weird question. If i'm going to be completely honest with myself.... I also seriously "downplayed" that question when I had lost weight via other means in the past knowing full well a lot of folks put it back on. Seriously think about that for a minute. This procedure is really no different. I respect all answers and responses on this thread though... either proudly state what you've lost or just make the comment "a lot less than before".
I personally am neutral and I seriously want this to be "more than temporary" if that makes sense.

Exactly! I have 10 more pounds to go to get to half my highest weight, but I know if I tell people that, they will guess my current weight and use that to calculate my highest weight, and I don't want anybody thinking about that!

People ask me all the time how much I lost and I proudly tell them. Guess that makes me weird lol. I'm proud of how far I've come so I'm always happy to share it.

But, I am more than positive that after working remotely since March of last year, when I finally do get to go back... I am going to witness this look more than once. Looking forward to it! HA!!

Nah, not weird, just an alternative response.
I'm the same way, if someone asks me how many lbs, I tell them.
And if they ask how it was done, I say I ate way less than I used to.
After that, I started getting annoyed, so I changed the subject.
Almost nobody asks or comments about weight loss anymore though, its old news.

I guess I'm weird. I proudly say how much I've lost.
In my first year, the only thing I kept close to my chest is the fact that I've had surgery. When I had surgery, I kept it mostly to myself, only telling a handful of people in my close circle. But, my co-workers obviously noticed that I was losing weight. They sometimes asked me how I was doing it or how much I'd lost. If they asked me how, I could honestly say that I was exercising and watching what I ate (high protein/low carb/etc). And if they asked me how much I'd lost, I was proud and told them! Every single one of them was happy and complimentary.
Now, after almost 3 years, I really don't have much reservation in admitting I had surgery. Not that many people ask.

I haven't seen anyone other than my husband or daughter since surgery because of covid lockdown, and they both know about the wls - but I'm definitely going to use BigSue's response if anyone asks me this question in the future!!

When anyone asks me how much I've lost I just say "a lot" or "more than I now weigh." I never give an exact number.
