Keep eating the meats that work for you.
Make sure other meats are not dry and/or are in sauce. I ate a lot of chicken breast early on and had no trouble. But I was running in through the food processor first to make sure it was in small pieces and I chewed it forever. I no longer use the food processor and it sometimes now gives me trouble.
My biggest issue is eating too fast. That will lead to tons of saliva (like what happens before vomiting) and foamies. It happens less now that I am better at watching myself and recognizing the signs earlier. But I had numerous unpleasant episodes in my 3rd and 4th month after surgery.

Have you tried fish? That's something that a lot of people have said works well for them. Even if you didn't like fish before surgery, you might like it now. Also try chicken thighs cooked in a stew or sauce so they're not dry, or something like chili or meatballs made with ground turkey.

When was your surgery? Many of us have trouble with dense or dry meat, especially early on. Have you tried ground beef, chicken, or turkey yet? Steak has always worked for me as has any ground meat. I’m nearly 2 years post op and still can’t eat much pork, it’s too dense for me. Experiment, and if something doesn’t work now try it again in a few months. Take small bites, chew well, and eat slowly!

Obesity and depression often go hand in hand. Prior to obsessing about your weight loss, it is crucial to deal with your mental health. Better still, you should focus not just on your physical state but also on your mental wellbeing. However, forums such as these can only provide moral support. You may need an expert opinion to deal with your mental health issues. Several clinical trials are being conducted globally that analyses the relationship between depression and obesity. Free services like http://centrial.org can help you find clinical trials being conducted on obesity and depression near you.

Shanell reacted to Luna Girl in Not wanting to eat
I have zero hunger or desire for food since my surgery on April 19th.
For dinner tonight, my son pan seared two filets with butter and garlic for his Dad and himself with roasted asparagus [my favorite meal] and it smelled amazing, but I had no desire for any of it. My husband said he was sorry I couldn't eat any of the filet yet and I told him it wasn't bothering me at all!
I do hope I will enjoy food again in the future [in smaller quantities]...but right now, if I didn't need it to survive, I wouldn't eat.

I know this is a weird thing to say, but...enjoy it while you can. For most of us, hunger comes roaring back sometime within the first year, and then things become much more challenging. It'll never in your life be easier to lose weight than it will right now, when you don't give a flip about food. In retrospect, I wish my hunger had never come back!!!

Yes, I'm 4 weeks out and while I rarely experience true hunger most days I still have a desire to eat. Some days though I just don't want to put anything into my body at all. It's rough. I find it easier to eat on the days I'm in a good routine like going in to my office for work, but if I'm home or it's the weekend it's so much harder for me to find the will to eat. However, I feel like garbage if I'm not properly hydrated and hitting Protein so it's a vicious circle. I just kind of have to force myself to eat anyway and get past it.

Yes, I had days like that. Very often actually. It’s why I stated eating to a routine - to ensure I got in some calories & nutrients. I didn’t mind if I didn’t eat all my portion but as long as I ate something nutritious. I felt this was really important when I was losing.
My hunger started to come back at about 18 months but I still have times I’m just not hungry. Now on these days I’ll drop my Snacks but still try to keep to my meals. I also tend to favour meals I pre made & froze on non hungry days. No fussing just reheat so I don’t lose what little enthusiasm I have for eating messing about prepping a meal.
Good luck.

not sure when you had your surgery, but a lot of lose our sense of hunger for a few months. I pretty much lost interest in food, too - it was sort of a chore to eat. I wish that was still true, but alas...my hunger came back at five months out.

I think depression is trying to set in ........ so I came to my parents for the kids Easter break and to get out of the house I recently lost my husband in January and I kinda been cooped up in the house except for when I go walking. My surgery was on the 12th and every went well until the second night I was in some pain and I wanted my husband they calmed me down and from there it has been good except I can't drink Water like I want to anyway........ about last night well it started with dinner I'm now on puree foods but still drinking liquids the only thing that works is mash potatoes and I tried yogurt today and that made me a lil nausea but not to bad. Well after dinner in which I ate egg drop Soup I got ready for bed once in bed I became very sad so sad I started crying I wanted to eat and I wanted my husband and I can't have either if it wasn't for my kids and their love and support I don't know how I would have gotten threw last night I really miss him.

Shanell reacted to catwoman7 in Urine
this is from the mayo Clinic. It says here that even certain Vitamins can cause it though, too...so it could potentially be due to one of the vitamins you're taking (I read in another article that if it's vitamin-related, vit B or D are the usual culprits). Or one of these:

That happens to me if I'm a bit dehydrated, but I haven't had surgery yet, so I'm not sure.

Shanell reacted to Tim C in Depression
So sorry for your loss...Things will get better with time. True depression (Not the Blues) can eat you alive. Most people do not understand it especially if you have not been diagnosed with a form of depression. About 15 years ago I had a bout with depression. I got over it with medical help. Are you seeing a Psychiatrist? There is no shame in that. I did and it helped me get better and now that is in my rear view mirror. You will always have that sense of loss but you can beat depression with the right meds. It took me several months but I did beat it and no more meds needed. I would encourage you to seek professional help and you will get better. If you need to talk to someone that has been down this road ....private message me. I have been where you are now.

My heart breaks for you and I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through. Do you have a counselor or someone along those lines that you can speak to? Any close friends you can spend some time with. I imagine the times you are alone are the worst because you're left with your thoughts. Perhaps you can find some sort of outlet? Maybe join a gym or take up a hobby that can help occupy those lonely moments in your life/head? Of course NOTHING will ever get you over your loss or replace your husband, but maybe something can help you at least eventually find some peace with it all. I feel for you and I am truly sorry for all you're going through.

all these will be missing from your diet in the beginning and all these affect your mood. I know the pain will still be there but it will give you the energy and the clarity to continue through this arduous task.
