  7. Hey everyone! Got a new job and found that we have bariatric surgery coverage. I asked my PCP to send a referral to the bariatric clinic in my area. That was done the week of Thanksgiving 2020. Got a call from the clinic and met the surgeon December 17th. Only have three month supervised diet and have to lose one pound a month! Working through all my pre op requirements. Had my psychiatrist evaluation Thursday. She asked when was my quit smoking start date because my window of time is closing! I am freaked out! Most people I know have had 6 to 12 months before surgery date. This creeped up so fast! Only test left is the endoscopy scheduled for April 20th. After that blood work as well as nicotine compliance test. So TODAY is my quit day! I can do this! Waited twenty years for this opportunity!
  8. My consult was December 17, 2020. I have completed my pre op requirements and found out TODAY my insurance approved the surgery. Now waiting on a call from the scheduling department [emoji2] Hang in there!
  9. Update:. SURGERY WAS APPROVED! HOORAY FOR ME! Waiting to here back from scheduling department!
  10. UPDATE Well....quit smoking! Passed my nicotine test. Pre op requirements completed. Packet being sent to insurance next week! Now the wait begins.

    Insurance

Question: what is the difference between a predetermination letter and getting approval for the surgery? I called my insurance and the gal just spoke in circles! Finally have all my pre op requirements completed.....man, this a job!

    Nicotine Test

My insurance requires smoke free. I quit March 31st. Took my nicotine blood test May 1st. Waiting for results....all my or op requirements are completed. Once results come back, clinic will submit to insurance for approval!

    Consultation

Thank you so much! So good to get that first step over with!
  22. I have wanted to have surgery 20 years ago! My insurance wouldn't cover even with my comorbities. My new employer (22 years later) covers bariatric surgery! Went to my consultation today. My insurance requires only 3 months medically supervised program! No sleep study since I already have a cpap machine. First appointment is with the nutritionist January 19th!! Here we go! Hooray for me!!
