Thanks so much for your response. I just read your story, and I too put on a tremendous amount of weight in perimenopause and menopause, and I had never had a weight problem before that! I quit smoking when I was 30, then had a miscarriage, and had one more child (#4) and started going thru menopause at 40, then it was post menopause at 50. After our 3rd child I weighed 106!!! At 68 I weighed 209!! You are a great writer! You are inspiring as well. And you live in the second best country in the world! I have a friend who just finished nursing school who lives in Adelaide. More like a daughter, but she’s a sweety , and I’m proud of her. She is Vietnamese.
I have a GP appointment this week, and I may ask her about HRT. Part of me thinks it may be a great idea, but another part says it’s one more pill you gotta buy, and I’m sick of all these pills!! What will happen on Wednesday when I talk to her??” Stay tuned to find out! Lol THANKS AGAIN!

Wow!!! I sure hope I’m strong enough to keep my weight off. I still have 25-30 lbs. yet to go, but I’m just happy to be where I’m at now! I was in the same sizes you were in before surgery, and I can’t imagine being in a zero or even a 2!! You are amazing!! I’m so glad to read your surgical health has been good, too. On this site I’ve read so many that have had to have multiple surgeries. I don’t know if that was from the Sleeve surgery or the bypass (RNY), which is what I had. Thank you for your inspiration for keeping on going on. You are amazing, and I hope I can do the same.

You made me laugh! I didn’t really believe that stuff either, but don’t you believe everything about us here in the states, either! I’ve been around long enough I know pretty much not to believe everything I hear, and I expect you are the same.
I talked to my dr. today about the HRT, and unless I’m pretty severe in my symptoms she doesn’t recommend it, especially with blood clots in the family. If I get any worse I’ll go to a gynecologist and get it thru them. But i don’t think I’m too bad yet. I’ll be spending time camping with my sisters in May, and I’ll see how my reactions are then! Lol I love them, but in close quarters for a week, and me being the baby (at 69) of us 3 I never do anything right, so this will be a great test if this surgery has stirred up my hormones being around them.
Well Aussie friend hope you have a good day!

Grammie2 got a reaction from Prestonandme in Serious Teeth problems after gastric bypass several years ago???
Ha! I read all these messages about teeth being bad after WLS and didn’t have the problem......UNTIL! I went to the dentist for the first time since my surgery, and also hadn’t been there in over a year and had 5 areas on my teeth with cavities! I ALWAYS (since adulthood) had great checkups. I could hardly believe it! He asked me if I had GERD, and I said yes, I’ve had it for YEARS and I’m on pantoprazole even now, but he said acid is causing my problems. I have no problems with GERD being on the medicine, so what else could it be??? He also gave me a script for the strong fluoride toothpaste, but doesn’t know if he can save my molars! Great news! Just thought I’d share! I am not on a Calcium supplement.

I too have had some encouraging happenings. With Covid dominating everything and not getting out much at all, it was great when we went to a wildlife refuge about an hour or so away and walked a path back to where the Snow Geese were on a lake there. Every year they come there on their way back to Canada, and it’s a beautiful sight to see. About 80,000 Snow Geese fly in to this place and hang out while they rest up for the rest of the trip home.
But walking that path back to the lake and then back to the parking lot I was soooo happy I managed to do it and only stopped once to sit for a minute, then finished the walk. I haven’t been able to do that for so long! It felt so good! Back in February I have a lower lumbar ablation done to get rid of pain in my sciatic nerve from my lower back to my knee. So with that being taken care of and my weight going down and my strength coming back I, too have much to be thankful for, and I’m feeling pretty good, Just got my first bloodwork back and all in in the normal range which really surprised me because I was concerned about my Protein level, but the PA said that was all in the normal range and I’m not showing any malnutrition! YAY!

I’m in the same boat, but I did lose 1 lb. this week. Sad, but hearing others have or are going thru it helps to know we’re not abnormal. Thanks to all who ‘weighed’ in!

You certainly have a full plate. How about trying a Tylenol PM, at night and when you get home take a 30 minute walk or alone time, then approach the family with love. You have given up the one thing you used to stuff anger, food, and you need a new way to approach it. Rather than getting mad sit down with your family and let them know what you need. Maybe a walk, time alone in your room to unwind, but always keep in mind the needs of the others too. Maybe your hubby could do something he likes to do when you get home so he has something else in his life besides home and children. As a stay-at-home mom, I can appreciate where he is coming from. I hope you catch up on your sleep. Make bedtime a routine and I have found the Tylenol PM a God send. Oh if you are perimenopausal talk to your doctor. I started an anti-depressant then. Your hormones got a bit wacky then and I was always angry with my family.

I feel like you do Lanie, and I’ll be anxious to get my blood work done for my 3 month checkup to see how I’m fairing. I got so frustrated with the protein, Constipation, and I too have adjusted my diet. That’s the big reason why I want my blood work done. I’m feeling fine, the pressure to “perform” is off, and I’m trying new things. I know my taste has changed quite a bit, too, which some things I used to LOVE don’t have much draw anymore. And I’m thankful for that. I think I’ll do okay with this lifestyle change. My supplements will hopefully make up for what I may be missing. Next month will tell.

    Hi Lynne,
RNY/GB or any weightloss surgery is a serious operation, and I don’t know your age, but I’m 69 (next month) and I had it done so I could not only lose weight, but get off some medicines, not have sleep apnea anymore, and stop eating when I’m full, maneuver around better, look better in my clothes, and be able to TRY harder to keep up with our 3 little grandkids! I have only gotten nauseated one time that I had to throw up, and I think I just wasn’t watching myself close enough. I do not regret getting it done. My weightloss is slower than a lot, but I’m eating more of what I like, just less of it. I figure I want to die eating what I like in life. But a younger person has a lot more different things to deal with than me. And maybe the way I’m doing it won’t work either, but I’m going to stick with eating what I’m comfortable with. I may not be able to hit my goal, but I’m still losing, and I’m happy with that.

No, but I’ve had bread since then. I think something might have gotten stuck somewhere, and just didn’t sit right. I had felt sorta nauseas half the day, but don’t remember what all I had that day or evening. I haven’t had any problems with anything I’ve eaten except that day.
also, I’m trying to get my ticker up and running, but I get this message saying it hasn’t been rendered yet.....or something like that.....what do I need to do to get it out there? Yours looks so perty!🥰

Sorry I said that! I had misspoke - I did have it yesterday, and I had trouble last night. I thought I was doing good. No throwing up episodes like some others ,but yesterday I got too sure of myself. After I ate it I felt full but not uncomfortable, but at lunch I got uncomfortable and it got worse until evening, and didn’t have any supper.....it got worse, and I ended up throwing up. Still was uncomfortable when I went to bed. But made it thru the night. So today I’m back to behaving! You don’t want that! Don’t do it. Don’t do it!!

My niece says she had gastric bypass surgery about 11 years ago now. We hadn’t seen her for a couple years and she says the gastric bypass surgery caused her to lose all her teeth. Never heard of this— is this something to be concerned about?? She has a lot of other problems besides this, but just wanted to throw this question out there and see what comes back.

The 2 lbs. IS my stall. It hasn’t changed for 2 weeks. This may not be my stall, but I’m 6 weeks post op. I’m sure there will be more stalls according to all I’ve read so far. We just gotta keep keeping on!🤺

    Hi Jennie!
please don’t worry about the amount of weight you lost. Just keep keeping on, you have lost a very normal amount of weight for your time out from surgery! So many things go into determining weightloss, including that everyone is different. I am 6 weeks out from surgery and I only lost 20 lbs. since my surgery date, 23 lbs. total. I had been averaging 4 lbs. a week, until last week, I only lost 1 pound!! This week, only 2 lbs.!! So I broke my streak! I was bummed out too. But look - WE ARE STILL ON THE LOSING SIDE!!!. Some weeks are going to be like that. Some weeks will be a stall! Just keep doing what your doing ! You’re doing awesome!!

Hi Chelsea! What a pretty name! How are you doing? You are further along than I am, so you must be on regular foods? I’m so looking forward to that! How have you made that adjustment? Are you still drinking the shakes?
what has been the hardest for you of going into regular food?
So you got to eat a real Thanksgiving dinner? Small, I know but not puréed! Do you work outside the home? Are you back to work? Did you have a good surgical experience and you’re healing well?
I had a great surgery, but I wouldn’t recommend going to the hospital I went to. I’m senior age, and they didn’t get me up walking til the 3rd shift came on. I kept asking, and they said they would be back to get me but never did til the middle of the night. Fun!! But other than that, maybe all of us getting our surgeries this year have had different experiences because of Covid. It’s a good excuse anyways....

So sorry, you’ve had such a long delay. I know how frustrating it is, as mine had been delayed too, but now I’m on the other side, and soon you will be too.
with the holidays the day will be here before you know it. All the sudden —- it’s here!!!
Happy for you that the excess skin surgery will also be cared for! Wow- that’s terrific! You are very fortunate! Wish you all the best in your new journey!
