    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Sorry friends have let you down. I’m thankful for my hubby, but I feel like my family has let me down too. I think maybe they figure you can’t eat regular food, so what should they do? If anything it can be a wake up call to all of us when we know someone is having a hard time physically or an operation, that maybe we can do for them what no one offered us. We know how it hurts, and how much it would be appreciated very much. Hope you are doing better and stronger each day, Lanie. Sounds like you had a hard row to hoe, but I hope you feel stronger each day.
  2. Hi! I had my gastric bypass Nov. 4 - one month today! I have struggled with the protein shakes, and have found many others have too, so I dont feel alone. I have opted for Atkins Shakes at 15 gr. Per shake which is low, but I can drink them pretty good, and add some Isopur flavorless protein to other things in my diet. Today I added some to my tomato soup, and it wasn’t bad. I guess I’ll be adding it to my dinner tonight as well. Over the last 2 weeks I have become constipated, and wanted to know what anybody has been taking for it. I was adding fiber powder, but it really wasn’t doing much of anything. I think it is the iron that’s messing me up, but it’s in my multivitamin, so I am changing to one that doesn’t have it. Is anyone taking a stool softener? I called my dr. Office to ask if it’s ok to take a pill in capsule form and she said not til 3 months! My stool softener is a capsule... maybe a different brand of fiber would be better? also - does electrolyte water have any flavor? I have a bottle to try, but haven’t yet. Just wondered, how does it help?
  3. Great advice! I’ll try to keep that in the front of my mind!🌹
  4. I had my Bypass Surgery Nov. 4, so it’s only been a month. I have read all your insights, and think I myself may be there someday in the near future. I’ve already been feeling that when I look in the mirror and I see my face seeming to be a little thinner after 20 lb. loss but I have this type of face and jawline that no matter how I look in the mirror my face will look like a turtle with loose skin hanging from her throat!,! I’m almost afraid to think positive. I am just hoping to make it to the regular food phase! My appetite has been deeply hampered by these high protein drinks. It has taken away my appetite for anything else. And I’m going on about me, and I’m sorry. This isn’t the topic. I wish you all the best in finding peace and happiness in your life, as you continue to work through these times. I’m thankful I was able to see inside your lives a bit.
  5. You wanted this for a long time then. I had thought about it for a long time, but my sister had stomach stapling 30+ years ago, and she gained all her weight back, plus throws up to this day. But the years have perfected some of these surgeries, and I’m on Social Security, and Medicare, and Medicare pays for this surgery if your BMI is 35 or more with other problems. My BMI was 37, so I was able to get it done. I was 209 at the beginning of March when I started the process. I was 206 on surgery day, and now I’m 191. This week tho I don’t think it will be as much as the other two weeks. That’s why I asked if it was going slower since your weight has dropped. Today was a terrible day for me protein wise. I made salmon for supper but had some leftover sweet potato casserole earlier, and making the salmon about made me throw up just smelling it. Shouldn’t have had the casserole. It wasn’t much, but it was too soon I guess. Yukkkydo! Have you had any of those days?

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Too funny! Lol , you gave me a chuckle. Something we all go thru with the surgery. My gas didn’t really start til day 4 but we are all different. Glad all went well for you, and you were able to rest. I can’t imagine going thru this with a young family! I admire you for that! Hope you continue healing, and hang in there for the rest. Happy Thanksgiving!!

How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?

I weigh myself once a week, except this week, I weighed twice and was disappointed. Still lost, but not as much as I had hoped. Sticking to once a week from now on.
  8. Wow! Way to go! Sounds like excellent advice to me. I can I ask you- with your BMI lower before surgery, after surgery did your remaining weight loss slow down? My BMI WAS 37 pre-surgery, and my weight loss seems slower than a lot of others. I wondered if having less to lose takes longer? And why did it take 23 mos.,?

I’ve also been going in 4 lb. increments since surgery. And you’re right, at least we are going in the right direction! Hope it can continue as I head into eating regular food!!

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Definitely call the dr. And let them know. - maybe they will be able to give you something to help with digestion. Maybe there is something that needs corrected, you just don’t know, so it’s best they know what’s going on. Hope it’s something minor for you, but don’t delay. I wasn’t following my diet about a week after surgery, and I was so weak and tired, and I found out through experience ya gotta stick to the program😟. And if you can’t right now they really need to know. Hope that helps.

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

I too had a lot of gas pains that seemed to get worse at first, but about day 4 or 5 it got better. I guess I didn’t notice it as much before because of the pain meds, so maybe that’s true for you. Good for you being off the meds!! And for getting your protein & water in! I struggled with the protein and still do, but I’m trying to hold my nose and drink!! Lol hate them!! If you can manage them you are going to do just fine!! Keep up the good work !! 🌹

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Are you on the pre-op diet yet? Hope all goes well for you. I am only 2-1/2 weeks post surgery, and I’ve had some struggles with the protein shakes (can’t stand the taste) but I’m back on the right track, and doing better. Maybe you will struggle somewhere else, maybe not at all. Just know, you can talk to people, you can call the dr office, there’s a lot of help out there, and you’re not in this alone. It may seem like it sometimes, but you’re not. Just reach out for help. All the best to you !
  16. Thanks so much! I’m trying! How are things going with you and your weight loss? You having yours done before me, I jwondered what it’s like on regular food now? Can you tell me what a normal day of eating is like for you? Are you on a schedule pretty much? Do you still weigh your foods or are you guesstimating? Are you still losing like before, or maybe more?

Maybe water, too??. Are you on puréed foods yet? If so are you doing that with the information you were given in your bariatric packet or did you get a bariatric cookbook? I’ve been looking at getting a cookbook if I can find one set up for the different stages of eating. I love variety, not that I like ALOT of different foods, but I like to TRY.
  18. Yes when they called me, I too had to scramble to get ready as well. Oh well, at least it’s over now.......now the work is beginning!

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

I had my bypass on Nov. 4, and I am still struggling with lower back pain. I don’t have much of any pain, mostly tenderness in my abdominal area. I also am very tired and weak and cannot stand like in the kitchen for more than 15 minutes, but was told I need more protein. I struggle with these darn protein shakes, but have started adding Isopur whey protein isolate to as much as I can, in teaspoon increments. I added some to my jello fluff I made this afternoon. If it can be TOTALLY DISGUISED I think I can do better! I didn’t have any problems with nausea, so I would recommend you talk to the Bariatric office about that. You aren’t throwing up are you? If you are you definitely need to let them know because of the stitches on the inside. I saw your bio and we are both at the same height. We can keep in touch if you like, and if you wouldn’t mind, let me know what they say about your nausea. Maybe try to drink a little slower? Hope you find the help even just to confirm everything and rule out trouble! It helps. Take care! Jeanne Smoker
  20. Hi Shannels! Hang in there.....I know the frustration. I started my process in March, had all my tests done by June, and they said maybe September or October (due to Covid) and finally it happened November 4. Just keep yourself healthy and Covid free and it will be here before ya realize.

    Anyone November 2020

Guess you were very fortunate to get into such a good program! 🤗 I was very disappointed in my program, but I don’t know if it is normally better, or if Covid disrupted everything. I had videos but they were more the psychological side of things.
