SoulGardener got a reaction from Tatro in Facial wrinkles
I am down 50 pounds, 40 in 2 1/2 months. The problems are in my upper cheeks near my eyes and lower jaw and neck. Even my family says I look bad. I wear a CPAP which straps go across my upoer cheeks; there are horizontal indentions there. Should I do facial exercises, add hyalauronic acids & change the CPAP. This is scary!

Yes, I am having the same problem. I passed out yesterday trying to stand up. Thankfully I landed on the couch. I checked with my daughter, an RN; she says it is hypoglycemia. She brought a glucose monitor for the next time it happens. Your blood glucose must stay above 70. What she did yesterday is cook me some yellow squash. That worked for around 20 minutes. After that, I just went to bed for the day. I have a call into the Bariatric Clinic; they told me to go to the ER. I didn't do that because it costs me $350 each time. I feel certain it is hypoglycemia since it goes away after I take in a few carbs.

I finally got him out but it was fraught with legal issues. He was transported by his father 150 miles away so he cannot bother me again. I have barely managed to keep my weight stable. But I am back on the WL path. Thanks everyone for your support and your truth.

I was sleeved in March and have lost 60. But now I have someone staying with me, my ex. He has become homeless in the last 6 months. He bought a bunch of junkfood even though I told him no (two kinds of Cookies, cheese-covered popcorn, ice cream, high cal fruit bars, chocolate cake) then he ended up in the hospital. I broke down two days out of a week and my old eating disorder kicked in, causing me to gain 5 pounds! Now he is calling saying don’t eat my food! I told him already he could not bring that into my house.

He will get out in two days. I will be taking him elsewhere because even though he is contributing financially he is wrecking my weight loss. Btw, he is also smoking cigarettes.
Guess I am looking for support in my decision to not let him live here any more. It is sad he may be homeless but he apparently cares nothing about my health. I know I will not be able to continue my program with him around.

I would have tossed his butt the moment he returned from the store with that sh!t--not because of what he chooses to eat, but my house, my rules. If I ask you not to do something in my house, you better not do it, or you'll be out of my house. Plain and simple. Toss him and the food and don't feel bad about either for one second.

Six months post WLS and you've been put in a position to fail. Not by your doing but by an inconsiderate person. You have only ONE CHANCE to do it right. Only one. You need to give it your best shot and not have an inconsiderate person sabotage your path to better health. I once again bring up the comparison to being an alcoholic . Would you allow anyone to hinder your recovery from alcohol by letting them bring it into your home? NO, so why allow him to sabotage your recovery from poor health and obesity by allowing him to bring in junk food? The choice here is very simple, for you to succeed with weight loss and getting back to good health he cannot be a part of your every day lifestyle. Get rid of the food or pack it up and drop it off to the place he is going to but you need to get it out of your home.
Remember you are only six months out and you've already gained weight. I'm out four years and I will tell you it gets harder NOT easier to lose and maintain the weight loss. Your in the best position of your life to lose the weight. Don't let Mr. inconsiderate ruin it for you. Despite what you might hear, insurance companies will not pay for a do over. Make the best of this golden opportunity.
  10. Thanks

He not only doesn't care about your health, but he also has zero respect for your home and your boundaries. If that's how he treats you when you offer help, he's done this to himself. Not bring home junk food and not smoking in exchange for a roof is hardly a big ask. He made his choice.
  11. Thanks

Dude is just an ex, not family or anything. You are not obligated to help him. And even then, if anything compromises ur weight loss then cut it out of your life.

I know I'm late, but I just wanted to add... You are worth standing up for!!! You are worth your time and the time of others! Most of all you deserve respect! It's obvious that you have a big heart to allow them to be in your home when they are in need, that ALONE means they should be following your requests and then some! I hope you have kicked your ex completely to the curb and that you have been able to get back on track. It is so hard for a lot of us who have struggled with weight to not feel like we are deserving of good things, for me it is anyhow, but someone as kind as you deserves only the best things in life!!!!

SoulGardener got a reaction from Arabesque in stuck at 50 pounds down
Had VSG 5/5. I was losing really easily and fast until about a month ago. Stopped at 229 pounds…. eating 1,000-1,200 cal per day plus some exercise. Maybe I am eating too many carbs? Nutritionist said limit to 70 grams of carbs per day, 100 Protein, 26 gms fat, 25 gms sugar. So multiplying out. that is 70x4 plus 100x4 plus 26x9 plus 25x4….. 280 plus 400 plus 234 plus 100. That equals 1,014 cal total per day.

I have a lot of injuries but I think I really need to add strength training. Plus I agree with another post; I do need to get a food scale and weigh everything I eat.

Looking back at MyPlate where i record my food intake, I can honestly see that i am eating around 200-225 grams of total carbs per day and only around 50-60 protein.

HEY I think I just solved my own dilemma!!! Can I get some positive strokes? thanks in advance!!!😀😀😀

I tried My Fitness Pal but it costs $20 per month & will not allow me to go below 1460 based on parameters it asked me to enter. How do you get it to allow you to put in your own calorie intake?

From what I have read on this forum, this is def not the norm.
As a sleeve patient myself (3 years post op) I average 1800-2000 calories a day, and have been maintaining my current weight for over 2 years (and I'm 5'2", 115 lbs)
Everyone will have different maintenance calories depending on a whole slew of factors. Each person needs to figure out what that is for their own individual set of circumstances.

I told an old acquaintance the other day that I had bariatric surgery. She proceeded to tell me about a horror story of one of her friends who had the surgery 25 years ago in Mexico. Her friend has had severe complications that have never resolved. Although I had mine done at a Bariatric Center of Excellence here in the states, her story did cause me anxiety. I’m only 3 weeks past surgery and I need to stay positive! I won’t be so open in the future!

Hey all! I was sleeved on 5/10 and feeling absolutely great. I have had no complications and can stomach just about everything I eat (on plan) at this point. Although, like others have recently mentioned, my tastes have changed and sometimes I get sad when I think about going the rest of my life not being able to gorge on food. The thought of a buffet gives me anxiety because really - what do you choose when you want to choose it all?!
Only discomfort I have started to get recently is the scar tissue under my skin where the incisions were. My doctor said to expect this because during surgery nerve-endings were cut and as they start to heal you can start to feel where the surgery happened. It's not painful at all. It just feels like a bruise when I press on it to clean in shower or something rubs up against it.
Anyone else have this now being that you are at least 4 weeks out from surgery?
Oh, and does anyone else think about the surgery and food and Protein and Water and what to have to eat that day like every waking moment? For me, it's obsessive. I have been losing on average half a pound a day so I sit there and calculate how many more days/months it will take to loose X amount of weight and I even factor in losing less a day as my BMI drops. Seriously, I feel crazy! haha

Hey All, I am 7-weeks post op. No complications, no issues, extreme energy.. the works. I hate that I waited so many years to finally have this procedure. One drawback for me has been that my taste buds are so different. NOTHING tastes good to me. NOTHING. I could no longer swallow the Protein Shakes so I began making my own from scratch. After only a few swallows my new stomach is full and I find myself rinsing the remainder down the sink. I have tried my favorite dishes and foods of the past but the textures and taste will keep me slim and trim for the remainder of my life. I look at it this way: I have consumed more than a small nation during my lifetime of eating! I will not miss anything at this point! I am happy and grateful and determined to have a healthy remainder of life. The best to all of you on this journey!

I had heard horror stories about RnY surgery. Regarding issues further down the road like Vitamin issues. One of major reasons I chose Sleeve. I hope you get everything fixed! Thoughts and prayers that you can start eating and drinking like normal.
when I had sleeve, my doctor removed my gall bladder as I had stones and also did hiatal hernia repair then.

    Hello,
I am new to this forum but I really need to warn others. I am 5 years post op from the sleeve surgery and am MISERABLE! I have also had 4 more surgeries to fix a hiatal hernia at the esophagus and stomach as well as pouches that were formed by the surgery. I have not been able to eat normally since the surgery and by normally I mean the way you are suppose to after VSG. I haven't been able to drink Water without pain. My SW was 245 and now I am at 184 and losing since my most recent surgery. The recent surgery was to fix the hiatal hernia again. I was told it was a "new" way of fixing the hernia, nothing more was told to me. My pancreas was also removed at the same time. My surgery was called a Nissen Fundoplication, its pretty complicated. They use of the stomach to be wrapped around the esophagus so it won't go up into that area again. From the beginning I have had GERD very bad, it was so bad I was on 2 different medications as well as over the counter antacids so that is why the Nissen Fundoplication. It has been horrible this 5 year journey. I am getting all of my records together for a second opinion and to possibly have a revision to the RNY.
This surgery was the biggest regret of my life. My life has suffered more and my relationship has also been hurt by this. I am always so tired and sick, and my husband is worried about losing me.
I have also been just left to flounder. I have had numerous swallow tests and load of medications but NOTHING allows me to drink a nice glass of water, albeit a sip at a time, without pain.
So in one word "YES" i regret everything about this surgery.
    Heather
