TrueNorth1 got a reaction from Loriey in Low energy
Hi Lori - so happy for you!!
yes, I am the same as you. I’m down to 154 and hoping to be 145 end of March and 130 for end of June. I’m also walking 13,000 to 20,000 steps a day and now doing weights at home. I can’t wait for gyms to reopen for variety. I also am careful of what I am eating and portion. eating very healthy. But will treat myself to something every now and then. But it’s small amounts. I still haven’t had pizza or bread. It has been effort on my part for sure. I’m the lowest I have been in 10 years! Lower than the band. I always wanted to be back to 130-135 but couldn’t get that last 20 off. So I think it’s going to happen with the MGB! Can’t believe it. And what a perfect time we did so. Once things open up I’ll be where I want to be. So very happy!

I also had the MGB 2 months and 1 week ago! I find mornings difficult...but once I am up, I am raring to go!
I think the low carb thing does it also. There is such a thing of Keto flu....where you are exhausted. So body healing, new way of eating, exercise....we will be tired! But then it switches and you will have energy.

    Hi There,
I have had something once....not sure it was dumping. I had a day where I ate and ate and ate....all goof stuff, but I was hungry! until I was full. And then I had gas and diarrhea. I did not throw up. I was not nauseated. I was not sweating. Just diarrhea....for about 2 hours off and on....and I think everything came out of me.
I will take that any day over throwing up.
I get hungry. I wait and make sure it is real hunger and not mental hunger. But I try not to wait too long or then I am famished and after 1 serving I am still hungry. I never feel full unless I eat too much which I very rarely do because I stop myself. If I didn't stop myself I could certainly eat more than I do. I only put a portion of food on my plate that I am allowed. 80% of the time I want more. But I don't allow myself.
On my worst day of overeating I had 1424 calories and it consisted of (throughout the full day but most within a 4 hr period). I clearly was craving carbs as I have cut the carbs to very low!
Organic Roasted pepper and Tomato Soup with 8 saltine crackers (total of 2 cups)
    1/2 cup of almonds
mini flavoured rice cakes (about 15 mini)
    Cabbage & ham
I cup plain greek yogurt with 1/2 an apple
    Goldfish crackers about 30g
1 cup chicken broth with cabbage and ground veal
After all that, I didn't gain...but in reality, 1424 calories is probably a normal day for the average normal person. So, If I have one of those every now and then and that is what I consider a pig out, I am ok with it! I just wont do it often because I don't want to stretch my new tummy.

Hi Lynn and happy new year!
You certainly have to be comfortable with the surgery. You need to weigh out the pros and cons. It is generally for people that are obese or morbidly obese and have been for a while. Those that cant get off the weight or yo-yo. Those that have health issues. As we know, there are major health issues of being severely overweight. With the surgery, you will lose weight, but if you push overeating and you continue to eat high fat and high sugar foods, you will eventually gain the weight back. It will take a while but you will. That is in your control.
As for pain, the sleeve will be less painful than the full gastric bypass. I had the mini gastric bypass and I had no real pain. Some gas pain that was uncomfortable but no pain. I didn't have to take pain medication. I had it done on a Thursday and was working on Tuesday (desk job at home). I was doing laundry and walking around the house on the Saturday and Sunday - also trying to keep moving (it relieves the gas) and it was no problem. The only thing I would not do is lift anything heavy. Or bend with my stomach (I would bend with a squat) as not to put any pressure on the surgery site.
I had the mini gastric bypass done in November 2020 and was also wondering if I should get it done. I did not qualify for insurance as my BMI was too low and I do not have any other health issues, so I had to pay for mine personally. I had a lap band that I needed removed so I had to make the call if I do a revision to mini gastric bypass or try weight loss on my own. At that time, I had already gained almost 30 pounds from my lowest with the band (I had the band in 2009 so it was 10 years). I tried and tried to loose weight on my own. I would loose 10 then gain it back. I never came close to losing 30. So, I did the surgery and I am happy. I am down 23 pounds in just a little over 6 weeks and I could never do that on my own. I want to lose a total of 60 pounds so I am 1/3 of the way there in 6 weeks. It may slow down but I am ok with it. Now, am I eating wings, nachos, pizza, burgers, fries, cake, Cookies? Nope. Will I try these at some point? Yes. Just like any diet, as you see the results, its somewhat easy to be "good". I have had crackers, flavored rice cakes, bananas, salted almonds, carrots, turnip, butternut squash Soup, etc and lost weight. When I hit a plateau ( recently) I went low cal and low carb and pushed through. So, you control your weight loss. The surgery just makes it easier to do that!

I had to cut the almonds out as well...for now anyway. I was having salted almonds so maybe the sodium was retaining Water? They are also quite high in calories. But 6-8 filled me. It was a great snack.

I broke through the 2nd stall, hallelujah!
I cut out fruit and I made such an easy and yummy Asian soup!
I put green cabbage in the food processor to shred.
Hand chopped some mushrooms. Added 2 oz of cooked chicken. Garlic. Ginger. And chicken broth. Just delish!!
total used was 8oz of vegetables and 2 oz chicken. Good for 2 servings.

    HI Sweet Jane,
If you look at the previous posts, it is pretty normal. You don't have stats on your page so hard to see what you are starting at.
I'm slow although I have been following, do 12,000 - 17,000 steps a day, consume 500 - 600 calories. I lost 9 pounds in the first 2 weeks. Then I stalled. Now its coming off again. I was 4 weeks on Thursday and I hit 12 pounds. Today I am at 13. I see a difference and feel a difference e so I am ok with my slower results.
There are others that are double and triple my results. I had thoughts and expectations that I would be down 60 pounds in 3 months! Not great to put expectations on things because we feel we failed or are doing something wrong. Our bodies will adjust and do what it needs. I now know it will probably take me 6 - 9 months to get to where I would like to be. And maybe that will even change as I get closer. I don't know why, but we will all get there, as long as we are putting our effort in! That is al we can do:)

    Hi Sweet Jane,
I’m sorry it’s not going your way right now!! It is the worst when the scale just won’t budge! Wow, your a strong person! It is hard to stay true to the diet and exercise regime when we don’t see the results! Congratulations!! Something I’ve learned about me, I only Celebrate big loss... it has led me to a life of disappointment. I’m learning to celebrate my success wherever it lies. I’m excited for you! The weight isn’t poring off, but you are standing tall and unflinching! I’m going to celebrate that with you!! One thing I’ve seen is people wrapping a piece of yarn around their waist each week and then taping it to their wall, so they can see the downward trajectory. Also, what kind of scale do you have? If you don’t already you may want to invest in a scale that shows what kind of weight your losing. I’ve seen fat being lost on my scale, but no lbs from my weight. (I have a Renpho scale.) it reminds me things are happening. If this is all already in your mind, I’m sorry!! Sometimes we just want to be heard. If that’s where you are, I hear you and see the tremendous effort you are making! Hoping for a downward sliding scale for you very soon!!

I am sorry you are in pain. That’s awful. And having no another surgery. Let’s hope this does the trick and a speedy recovery.

TrueNorth1 got a reaction from Cheeseburgh in Am I losing too slowly?
Yes, it seems I need to lower the expectations! I did Dr. Bernstein diet (800 calories) and lost 15 pounds per month so I thought for sure I would lose the same at 500-600. It's ok...in 1 month I will be better than today. And so on....its not bringing me down! I've got this!

its funny that we do that to ourselves! We did just have major surgery! Its been just about 4 weeks and our expectations for weight loss, exercise, etc is unbelievable. And yet, we keep doing it. Our bodies can only handle so much. No wonder we get stalls! Our poor bodies are saying "stop and let me recoup"! We want everything NOW. If we can just stop our minds and let it happen....because it will.
Now...to practice what I preach! I am just the worst! Maybe it will be my new years resolution!

Oh no! I am sorry to hear that. Its hard because it is trial and error. We are told to try what we feel, very small and chew slowly, but we have no idea what our new stomach's will tolerate and when. At some point, we will all go through what you went through. So not looking forward to that!

I have finally pushed on through. I was stalled between week 2 and 3. it will be 4 weeks for me on Thursday and its coming off again. It is frustrating but it does happen and you will push through. Be strong, you've got this!

Yes, you can go for walks with your wife. Your 10 pounds will come off....just not always when we want it by. But at Christmas you will be better than you were 1 month ago and certainly better than last Christmas!

I am the same...mini gastric bypass on Nov 19 and down 10. I’m hoping it’s our normal. My dietitian says it’s normal and not to concentrate on the number but rather on quality food, portions and recovery and all will happen. Hard to not be focused on the weight loss but i am confident we will all get to where we want to be. ❤️

I would LOVE a greek salad with feta! But I am afraid to do lettuce just yet. Salad is hard to put tiny mouthfuls. I am craving vegetables. I will try roasted cauliflower. I have had a lot of chicken and tuna through the soft stage (shredded chicken)
Maybe meatballs in marina sauce? Staying away from bread, Pasta and rice. Apparently people have problems with those.

All the feedback I can get, I will take! As someone mentioned the other day, I am so grateful for this group.
And yes, I will not get discouraged. I am happy, truly. I feel great. Would I love to be down 22-30 pounds? Hell ya! And I will...just slower. And yes, now that I am getting into solid foods (on Friday) I will be able to try different foods and see if that will push it along. As long as the scale is going down, I am good. I spent the last year where I felt I tried hard and other times I didn't care...just to be at the same place after a year. So, this time next year....put it in our calendars...we will be in a much better place!

It's always good to ask to make sure.
It is not to say I didnt feel anything...just nothing that made me go "ouch!". I still feel "stuff" inside. Mostly to the lower left. I am assuming that is where the bypass happened? So when I lie on my side (which took about 10 days before I really tried to) it's almost like I feel things moving around if that makes sense?. And sometimes right between my chest I feel something...like, tightness.
I go tomorrow at noon to get my stitches taken out (I had a lapband removal as well) and will ask about the above. I am curious to see my scars! lol

  25. Congrats!

The surgery/pain was a walk in the park! Way better than I ever anticipated!
The weight loss is slower than I thought it would be, but I am losing and happy!
It's the perfect time (during co-vid) to concentrate on me. Come April when the world starts looking better, so will we!!!
