Grain based carbs are more for when you've reached your goal and need to slow down weight loss or to maintain,

Mine was last Thursday as well. I am a stomach sleeper so U put a pillow on my sore incision and lay on my side. It works great! I feel better than I have ever before!

You can ask your surgeons office what to buy for prep. Slimfast was not ok at mine.

you'll start feeling restriction once you start eating solid food, so no worries.
I was able to drink much more quickly than I thought I should have, and I never had any pain or swallowing issues. I seriously started to think that maybe he didn't really do the surgery. But I sure noticed the restriction once I started eating solid food!

Surgeon said drinking fluids should be easy for most. The problems start cropping up as increase from puree to soft to normal food. That is when chewing food a lot becomes really important.

As with every profession, there are those that are at the bottom of the class.
I recall a doctor-mandated consultation with a dietician about 15 years ago. She was extremely fit but weighed about as much as my shadow, and had ZERO frame of reference about what it was like to be overweight, let alone lifelong morbidly obese. I recall her saying "well, maybe the next time have 1 slice of pizza instead of 2!" all satisfied with this glowing wisdom she had just imparted.
I replied "Lady, if the problem was 1 piece of pizza vs. 2, I wouldn't be in the shape I'm in. It's more of a question of 1 PIE or 2." She just couldn't fathom what it was like to be an overeater.
Needless to say, that went nowhere.
My dietician this time around, however, is aces. She too is a diminuitive slender fit women, but the persona is completely different. She asks questions, doesn't try to lecture, tries to find healthier alternatives to fit my lifestyle, food preferences, and cooking capabilities (or lack thereof). She doesn't berate me if I tell her that I've tried certain foods that aren't on the regimen or had something more or less frequent than I am supposed to.
She's not judgmental, so I don't feel the need to hide things from her; I can be candid with the good, bad, and the ugly.
Do you have the option of requesting a different dietician from the same hospital/system?

I have today and 4 more days to go on my liquid diet. This is no fun. LOL> I'm soooooo tired of sweet stuff. The broth is my only saving grace and the Popsicles to chew on. I can and will complete this though!! You are all doing great. Less then a week to a new beginning!

Too all those now on their pre-op diets...I am on Day 17 of my pre-op diet. You read that correctly, Day 17. I have to do a 28 day liver shrinking diet. 4 Protein Shakes, 1 lean and green meal, and 1 serving of sugar free jell-o. No matter what your pre-op diet, it gets better! The first 3 days were tough, but now I am smooth sailing through it!
11 days to go for me! Pre-op surgeon visit this Friday and medical clearance with my primary on Monday.

This liquid diet is bruuutal. I'm on day 4 of 5 and I'm so hungry. The other days were filled with head hunger and sucked in their own way. But today...omg my stomach just keeps growling.

@WhatATool:-) I lost 19 lbs. the first month. I only weighed at the Doctor's office so I have no idea what I was earlier than that. While some might be disappointed by that number, I was thrilled. It was the most I'd ever lost in a month & I hadn't gained as I normally would have if I'd kept on as I was pre surgery. Now 15 years later, I am right where I want to be. I hope you will be, too.

I didn't do any meal prep before surgery, and I don't think it's really necessary. After surgery, you'll have a very limited diet. Depending on your program, you'll have some period of time that you can only have liquids (which require little to no prep) and then only pureed foods. There are a lot of no/low-prep pureed foods, like applesauce, yogurt, sugar-free pudding, cottage cheese (which is actually available pre-pureed now), mashed cauliflower, and refried Beans. Most of it requires no prep other than stirring in some Protein Powder and maybe throwing it in the food processor. If you really want to do some advance meal prep, maybe make some pureed Soup and freeze it in small containers. You are going to be eating very small quantities, so one recipe can make many servings. I made some black bean soup and one recipe came out to 14 portions. Ricotta bake makes 8 portions. Just those two recipes make dinner for 3 weeks.
Since that didn't really answer your question, I would suggest you check YouTube. There are several videos on WLS meal prep. I find them very boring because they're mostly just mixing Protein powder into food and dividing it into a bunch of containers!

September 10th here! I'm celebrating my (September) birthday this weekend since I'll be a couple of days post-op on my actual birthday.

    Good luck everyone!

I travelled for my surgery solo and was in hospital for two nights without any visitors, I was fine, in fact, I generally prefer to be alone when I am not feeling well or need to recover from things.
