Today, I was reading a list of guidelines regarding supplies that households should keep on hand to survive 3 or more days in case of earthquakes, winter utility outages, etc. One prominent requirement is to have non-perishable foods stocked, for example, but many of the emergency kits seem to be hugely slanted towards Pasta. I wonder if anyone here keep an emergency kit stocked, and, if so, what do you stock for your non-perishable bariatric food needs?

@sunseeker I am 4 weeks out from the sadi-s surgery, and I haven't had any terrible troubles with gas, pain, etc. I'd say the biggest challenges so far are mostly mental ones...adjusting to a new routine and trying not to waste food.

Can you give an example of what a day with more frequent, smaller meals looks like? It seems like my meals can't get much smaller.

My partner and family have been extremely supportive -- I feel lucky in that. I was touched that members of my bariatric team came to visit me in the hospital too.
My recovery has been going well. I still like the same Soups and I'm grateful not to have huge cravings. It's challenging to ingest even enough liquids to get my Proteins in though, but I expect that to get better with time as I heal. I'm really looking forward to when I can satisfy my Protein needs through my food. It's an interesting and hopeful time ... like I'm having to figure out how my body works again.

Lettuce, veggies, shrimp, and tofu...I'm so happy for you---and I'm super eager to join you outside the puree stage.
It feels good though. Hopeful. How are your friends and family reacting?

I'm doing pretty good today. Tomorrow I get to advance my diet. I can have shrimp and tofu which I'm super excited about!
Don't worry too much about the drain, it comes out pretty fast and then it's a relief!

Congratulations STloser! What stage are you moving into?

I both dread and eagerly anticipate getting rid of this thing. It's reassuring to hear that it wasn't a traumatizing experience. How has your journey been today? I'm feeling a little better each day---mostly the biggest challenge is enduring purees. 🤮

Did it hurt to have the bulb drain taken out, @STloser?
I feel stuffed even though all I had was a medicine cup of Jello. I can't wait to have my body feel comfortable moving and bending.

I'm doing well with fluids, but it was challenging at first, especially with the Protein Shakes, which I HATE since our surgery. I started using collagen peptides mixed into liquids and was able to tolerate those.
I stayed on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks post op, then a week of full, and Thursday I started soft foods, which has got me feeling like myself again!
My drain was in for 10 days. My surgeon does the SADI-S with his partner so I had 2 surgeons. After my surgery, my main surgeon went on vacation, so I followed up at 1 week with his partner, and he didn't want to remove the drain, so I had to wait until I saw my surgeon at 10 days post op.
Anyway, the fluids and Protein get easier every day. I had a tough time with the clears because I don't like broth or any sweet drinks, or Jello, so that didn't leave much. I forced myself to drink Protein20, and mixed my shakes with Decaf coffee to tone down the sweetness. I didn't have much of a sweet tooth before, and since I had surgery things taste 100 times sweeter! I'm feeling great now that I can eat things like eggs!
I'm glad to find someone else who had my surgery! It isn't very common. I look forward to comparing notes!
Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile appI am looking forward to the soft food phase. It has been challenging to find tasty no-sucralose Protein Shakes and low-sodium broth.
When you left the hospital, did you have to take 30 days of heparin shots? I worried when I first saw the needles, but they have been ok.
How long did it take before you were able to sleep on your side or stomach without discomfort?
I chose the Sadi-S because the literature suggests that it is very effective while having lower risks than the traditional DS. I want to have the best quality of life that I can, and the Sadi-S seems like a good option for my needs.

Can anyone give me advice on what to pack for my hospital stay?!I found it helpful to bring my phone and phone charger, earbuds, a comfortable, lightweight robe, hairtie, hairbrush, and loose fitting, comfortable clothing to wear home. I also brought a small pillow to hold against my chest/stomach to reduce discomfort when doing the required coughing exercises. I loaded my phone with great stuff to read, watch, or listen to for relaxation and occasionally recorded videos. Good luck with your surgery! 🙂

Today is my first time posting here, though I've been reading the forums for several months. I had the SADI-S surgery on August 12, and I was allowed to return home yesterday. I'm feeling very positive and motivated re: following my program and I look forward to healing and getting stronger. I haven't experienced gas pains yet, but I have felt soreness. My biggest challenges right now are getting my Clear Liquids in, getting used to the routine of swallowing pills down with little Water, using the bulb/drain, and taking heparin shots. I look forward to comparing notes and learning with others -- any others with SADI-S as their first WLS?

What a year's supply of vitamins looks like for someone who had the Loop Duodenal Switch/SIPS/SADI-S surgery

I had the SADI-S last August. Each day, I take 1 capsule of BariatricPal's Multivitamin ONE which includes Vitamins A, B, C, D, E, K, and 45mg of Iron. I was able to buy a year's supply for 99 dollars from the company. It came in 4 small bottles of 90 capsules each. I also take 3-4 calcium citrate chews a day depending on whether my meals include Calcium. I'd definitely recommend the 99.00 deal for anyone that can take capsules; my surgeon required chewables for the first 3 months.
